The post apocalyptic world created in this book feels so real to me as do all the characters. I wish I could join Eluned and her friends on their Quest despite how dangerous it seems. They just seem like the type of people I'd love to be friends with. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series, which I am picking up . . . now.

The far post-apocalyptic setting gives The Path to Misery a unique texture as buried under the layers of a world which seems medieval, we find that the Ancients are writers like Lewis Carroll and H.P. Lovecraft. Even on the surface of the story a Welsh legend is cast into a future which feels like the past. This works seamlessly as the story flows from one scene to the next driven by the author's pitch perfect dialogue through which a varied cast of characters each come through as individuals.

Set on adventure and romance beyond the confines of her Kingdom of Zion, Princess Elenud is soon freezing cold in the snowy climb through Misrule Pass. Adventure proved more difficult than the journey for which the pampered princess bargained. Yet, don't count out this plucky heroine who proves her mettle as a 3-year journey prior to marrying the neighboring king to whom she is betrothed is no Amish Rumspringa, but a divine quest that promises to bring peace to the 13 Kingdoms.

To read this first book in the Hallowed Treasures Saga is to enter a fine crafted realm woven from the threads of an ancient legend into a distant future. This epic makes for a surprisingly quick read as the story moves the reader along quickly. Logue is particularly good at dialogue that is witty, while revealing much about the characters. I look forward to returning to the Thirteen Kingdoms.
