I picked up this book a few years ago because of the beautiful illustrations. They appear to be paintings from what I can tell and they're amazing. The story is simple and sends a message. Sometimes it's more important to be useful than beautiful. Peter finds a pair of golden shoes which he adores and parades around in. He falls asleep and when he wakes up they're gone. Then he sees 2 other animals each with one of the shoes. These animals found the shoes and are using them because they need them. The tortoise lost its home and the blackbird lost her nest in a storm. The shoes provided them with replacements. Peter then realizes how happy he is for both of the other animals and that he doesn't need fancy shoes to be happy.
This was a cute story but the artwork is what really pulled me in.

This is a MUST read for everyone! The illustrations are FANTASTIC and the story is just great! There is a great message of selflessness in this story. I checked this out from the library and can't wait to add this to my library.
