“The Way to Her Heart” was the first novel I read by author Amy Reece.
It is an engaging story about two teenagers that could not be further apart from each other on a social level. But due to circumstances – when thrown together – they soon find out they have more in common than they thought.
Unfortunately, the Blurb of the book already gives away quite a lot of the story, which I felt was a shame.
Still the story is told at a believable pace even though at times I was a little confused about the ...more

This was my first ever Amy Reece story and I think it was a really great introduction to this author. The Way to Her Heart is a very real feeling story. I enjoyed the frank discussions of poverty and homelessness faced by many teenagers, and Bernie's home situation was very honest. This could be a story about almost any teen girl, but what makes Bernie stand out is her tenacity in solving the mystery of her friend's disappearance and her resolve to be independent in the face of overwhelming diff

Five Heartfelt Stars! Bernie and Josh both come from troubled pasts when they meet in class. Bernie is living with her drug abuser mother and her mother's sleazy boyfriend. Josh finds Bernie to be someone he is drawn to and wants to help her. Will the two of them overcome their past and eventually find their happily ever after? The Author does a beautiful job of writing a heartwarming, emotional story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the characters. I recommend it!

So much happens in this story: Cheerleaders, Jocks, mean girls, drugs, alcohol, runaways, homelessness, murder, loss, friendship, and love. I absolutely love the character development. It was easy to get sucked into the story. It was hard to stop myself from reading. Therefore, I finished the book in a couple days. I definitely recommend this book.

Although this is a fiction story, it's about things that happen far too often in the real world- run away teens, missing persons, drugs and their effects on the user and the user's loved ones. This is a mystery about a young teen whose best friend is missing. The police think she's run away but her friend Bernie doesn't believe that she did. Bernie's determined to find out where her friend is. At the beginning of the story, Bernie herself is living in her car to avoid a horrible situation at hom

Having read and LOVED Amy Reece's Paranormal series, The Seeker Series, I JUMPED at the chance of reviewing this book as well. Different genres (YA Paranormal Romance vs YA Romantic Suspense), but just as good—OMG. I am for sure a HUGE fan of Amy's.

Thrown together by a school project, social opposites, Bernie and Josh share a background of pain and heartbreak, from different causes. Told through two points of view, the reader gets to see how the emotional attachment between Bernie and Josh grows, experiencing their ups and downs.

Wow! Reece nails it again!
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Amy Reece's latest YA novel, "The Way To Her Heart".
Just like in Reece's "Seeker" series, the characters in "The Way To Her Heart" are authentic, complicated, and sympathetic and I found myself lost in this book. The writing is from the heart and I was completely drawn into the novel by the end of the first chapter. Bernie and Josh have both been through, and continue to go through, their own kinds of hell, but as thei ...more

Great Book
This book is about two teens dealing with tragedy and hardship. Bernie has an alcoholic mother with horrific boyfriends, therefore she lives in her car to avoid something terrible happening to her. Josh is overcoming grief and depression because he lost his father and younger brother in a car accident. By chance circumstance Bernie and Josh are assigned to do a project together at school and develop a great friendship. A friend of Bernie's has disappeared. The police thinks she ran awa ...more

I can sum this up as nice romance, bad mystery. The romance part was sweet and a little bit sappy. It was very much a slow burn as Josh didn’t act on his feelings while Bernie was living with them so there was no hint of coercion or obligation. The mystery element of what happened to Gabby should have added some conflict and tension and given the story more bite. Unfortunately it failed. While Bernie is determined and keeps searching for answers she never finds any clues So the mystery does not

I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. What a heartfelt story. It's so true how so many children fall through the cracks of the system. Hopefully everyone will one day have there Josh. Well done to the author on a really well written, and beautiful book.

This was an awesome read!
This is the first book that I have read by Amy Reece, and I am very impressed with her work. I immediately became aware of the quality of her writing style; her characters are well developed and felt believable and relatable to me. This book is targeted for YA, but I am a senior and I loved it.
Bernie Abeyta grabbed my heart. She had known a relatively normal middle-class lifestyle until her father was sent to prison. Then her mother fell apart and so did Bernie’s life. ...more

Bernie lives a tough life. The only child of a drug addict mother with a long list of boyfriends, she often leans on her friend Gabby for support through the hard times. But, Gabby’s been hanging with an increasingly sketchy crowd and, when she goes missing, everyone seems to think that she’s just run away. However Bernie, who now lives in her car after one of her mom’s boyfriend’s gets too handsy, thinks there’s something more going on, and no one will listen to her.

Josh has been dealing with a lot over the past year after tragedy takes people close to him. He is living in a fog. Josh can only focus on learning more about cooking. Its something he can still share with his dad even though he isn't around.
Bernie Abeyta doesn't have the best home life. She has a mom who is addicted to drugs and her father is in prison. Life takes a turn for the worse when her mom’s sleazy boyfriend makes a pass at her and she runs to her best friend Gabby Rodriguez for help, ...more

I loved this book and didn't think for a minute it was boring. There was always something happening that kept me intrigued for me wanting to know more. I found this book quite emotional at times and it touched my heart as if I was part of their lives. It's quite disheartening to hear of children being homeless and why and I also hope that with each day that goes by there is another Josh to help in their lives x
