The Impact Series features crucial titles on a variety of topics, including denominations, doctrine, and cultural issues. With practical applications for Lutherans and other Christians, these books provide a greater understanding of our modern church and faith, all while pointing to the Gospel.
Many Christians know that the Lutheran church in North America is divided into various church bodies. What they may not know is the difference between these bodies and what areas of theology they emphasize. This book clears up the confusion surrounding the Lutheran faith and shows what distinguishes historic, orthodox Lutheranism from liberal Lutheranism. It also presents a valuable comparison and contrast of strengths and weaknesses for each American Lutheran church body.
Pretty comprehensive and well structured book, but arguing from a quite limited viewpoint.
The authors of this book are alarmed that the kind of conservative, traditional Lutheranism that they endorse is disappearing from Lutheran churches. Even though I don't agree with the authors' beliefs and viewpoints, I thought they did a good job arranging their subject matter, so as to show the clear difference between their views and the views of other Lutherans.
Great historical background. Not dated material from the original publication. Recommended reading for all who wonder what happened or what is happening!
The so-called comparison here is merely a compilation of mindless misinformation and predicated propaganda promoted within the arrogant, antagonistic, semi-educated, and self-serving hypocritical WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod).
The book serves to promote the rhetoric of robot graduates from Martin Luther College, Minnesota, and zombie pastors from the cemetery seminary of Mequon, Wisconsin.
When my Roman Catholic friend became a Lutheran Minister I figured he ought to know what he was getting into. This book makes it clear as mud. It left him with his head spinning (or was he shaking his head, I may have mixed that up). In the end he was thankful I'd cleared this Lutheran thing up for him. And, we're all very thankful to have him keeping us on the straight and narrow. Honestly, he's become a wonderful Pastor. The sort every church ought to have. We've been blessed.
Thank you Amazon for finding me a copy of this book!
