You know you read books where every word exchanged between the main character seems like foreplay and the air seems to sizzle with chemistry, well this is one of the books and it was all kinds of awesome.
Caroline, an archaeologist in Mexico first sees Rafe in a bar, in the middle of a shoot-out and can't believe it but despite his bad rep, as a drug-dealer finds herself having the hots for him. Meanwhile, even Rafe can't get her out of his dreams but he has more urgent things on his mind, like making sure that the end of his exhausting undercover DEA operation in bringing down Torres goes smoothly.
But things don't go as planned and when Torres sends Rafe to get someone he is shocked to find Caroline, who is then blackmailed into being a mule, with Rafe as her bodyguard. The animosity and even the barbs they exchange sizzle with sexual tension.
Caroline is angry over what he is being forced to do but resigned to it and along the way can't believe she is falling for someone who she thinks is a bad guy. When the artifacts are held hostage and these two in danger, the truth comes out about who Rafe is but Caroline isn't that quick to believe him.
The best part for me in the book was these two and how greatly their chemistry and falling in love was shown, it didn't seem forced at all. I also loved how Rafe tried to make sure they didn't get intimate but their dream state made them do exactly that and also I liked how we see the different sides of Caroline, in Mexico and back in the States, how she isn't some simpering flower but instead has a temper and is obstinate. Rafe was a great hero as well.

Frustrating 1997 category by Susan Sizemore about an archaeologist and the drug runner who loved her. Some interesting concepts in here, but far too many pages were spent on them mooning over each other and not enough on the plot.
Also it is gross to continually compare a Latino man to a panther.

b>Stranger By Her Side was too over-the-top for me and felt bombastic. There were some corny descriptions and I was unable to continue reading. I'm pretty sure, though, that the descriptions were standard for when the book was first published.

As Carrie Robinson spends more time with Rafe, she learns some suprising things about this dangerous man and some of his most well-kept secrets... A beautifuly woven story that I really enjoyed.
