This book provides good overview of the development throughout the 20th Century of comics as a pop culture medium. The main portion of the book consists as a series of essays on various aspects of comics (“Combining Words and Pictures to Create Legitimate Art”, “Conventions of the Superhero Narrative”, Comics during the following time periods: WWII, Cold War, Counterculture, Women’s Rights Struggles, Black Power, Manga Invasion of 1980s until today). Well worth examining.
