Cartoon History of the Universe this isn't. As with volume 1, the idea is more interesting than the execution. I'm enjoying this glimpse of history not covered in any of my high school classes, but it definitely could have been made more interesting. It may just be that Liu is presenting such broad sweeps of history in such a small space, that the only realistic way to handle it is infodump. So we get funny looking characters who don't really do or say anything funny, interspersed with maps and ...more

Wer die Macht hatte, bereicherte ...more

The second book in the series of four book on Chinese history, there are more wars, rebellions and more unification. Tibet also makes a cameo appearance and you can see why it is always considered a different region/state. This filled in my curiosity of the three kingdoms and the Tang Dynasty - widely considered the Golden period of Chinese civilization.

Crisp and informative continuation from the first volume elegantly handling the challenge of identifying the stand out differences and lasting changes from the flurry of dynasties, emperors, invasions, disasters and wars. A pleasure to read.

A graphic account of Chinese history, or rather, part one of a four-part series of graphic accounts of Chinese history. If you've been around here for a while, you know that I always wanted to study Chinese history, and got a little bitter because I couldn't ever take a class on it. Well, Jing Liu heard my cries of woe and answered them with this.

The actual series is called Understanding China Through Comics, and so far (I'm halfway through the second book) it's informative and easily understood

This series does a great job of making the very complicated history of China actually understandable. Would I say I have a concrete knowledge of this time period now? No, definitely not - but it's a great intro. I also appreciate the "further reading" section in the back of each volume, with suggestions about what texts to go to for different subjects/specific time periods. ...more

I wonder if all countries would have such a convoluted history if we kept better records.

Not bad for a primer to get in touch with China history. Very light and easy to read, although, of course, very superficial and summarized. Too bad that I can't find the last book in kindle format... ...more
