Ormond Beach #2

Stitches in Time

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Terri DuLong spins a new skein of love, loss, and new beginnings in sunny Ormond Beach, Florida, where even the most painful past can become the most hopeful future…

Isabelle Wainwright is no stranger to heartache. She was just fifteen when her mother left her to be raised by her father so she could start a new life across the country. Rather than crumbling in despair, Isabelle eventually stitched together her own path, graduating from college and starting a family in Atlanta. But her hard-won fairytale ending is beginning to unravel…

The shock of her father's sudden death is compounded when Isabelle's husband leaves her and her daughter for someone else. Reeling from being abandoned yet again, she finds comfort in Chloe Radcliffe, her father's girlfriend, who encourages her to move to Ormond Beach, Florida, and help her run her yarn shop. There, Isabelle may find the strength to confront her past, build new friendships, and perhaps even learn to love in a way she never thought possible…

NY Times & USA Today bestselling author of the Cedar Key Series. Debut novel, Lost Souls of the Witches' Castle, was released by a small press in 2002. Based on the mental facility north of Boston where I did my Psychiatric RN training, it weaves the story of a love both past and present. Since the press closed, Lost Souls is no longer in print, but is now available in eBook on both Kindle and Nook.
Daughters of the Mill is a prequel to Lost Souls and focuses on the Mill girls in Lowell, Massachusetts and the lack of women's rights in that era. Also now available in Kindle and Nook.

On Feb. 26, 2008 I signed a two-book contract with Kensington Publishing in NYC. My first novel, SPINNING FORWARD, also women's fiction, was released October 27, 2009. CASTING ABOUT, book 2 in the Cedar Key Series was released Oct. 26, 2010, along with my Christmas novella, A CEDAR KEY CHRISTMAS, in the anthology, HOLIDAY MAGIC, with Fern Michaels headlining.

Book 3, SUNRISE ON CEDAR KEY hit bookshelves October 2011 and Book 4, POSTCARDS FROM CEDAR KEY, was released October 30, 2012. Book 5, SECRETS ON CEDAR KEY will be released Nov. 26, 2013 and book 6 in 2014.

I'm originally from the Boston area, but have resided in Florida for 26 years. Eight years ago we relocated to Cedar Key (the setting for my novels) off the west coast.

Stitches in Time by Terrri Dulong is the second book in An Ormond Beach novel series. Isabelle Wainwright is moving to Ormond Beach, Florida with her fourteen-year-old daughter, Haley to start a new life. Isabelle is recently divorced. Isabelle and Haley will be staying with Chloe Radcliffe (she was going to marry Isabelle’s father before he passed away) in Koi House (a beautiful Victorian) owned by Mavis Anne Overby. Isabelle will be working with Yarrow to help start her delivery program for her coffee, tea, and treats for Nirvana Tea and Coffee. Isabelle is hoping this warm, loving atmosphere will help her and Haley to heal. But then she gets word that her estranged mother is coming to visit. Iris Brunell left her family when Isabelle was fifteen years old and their relationship has never been repaired. Is Isabelle ready to try and mend the rift between herself and her mother? Also, can Isabelle move on with her life when a new man enters her life? Chadwick Price re-enters their lives (they met a year ago). Chadwick and Isabelle click, but is it the right time? Can Emmalyn Overby help Isabelle move forward with her life into a beautiful future?

Stitches in Time was a lovely story. We get to reconnect with Chloe, Yarrow, Mavis Anne, and Henry. We also get new characters with Isabelle, Haley, and Petra. I love the yarn descriptions provided in the book (and the project they are working on). I give Stitches in Time 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). It is a sweet, though predictable novel. I like how the author shows us that there are two sides to every story. You need both sides to understand the whole story. Stitches in Time is well-written, has a good pace, and great characters. There were times when I wanted to shake Isabelle (she was so obstinate), but everything worked out in the end. At the end of the book we get to see who will be the focus of the next An Ormond Beach novel which I look forward to reading.

I received a complimentary copy of Stitches in Time from NetGalley (and Kensington) in exchange for an honest evaluation of the novel.

Stitches in Time is the second book in Terri DuLong’s Ormond Beach series. I usually read cozy mysteries and not a lot of women’s fiction but am very glad I read this wonderful book. The book is beautifully written, the storyline well plotted, and the characters well developed and relatable. This book can be read as a standalone Ms. DuLong does a wonderful job getting you caught up with all of the characters. This is a great read if you like light reading, a bit of romance, with a tiny hint of paranormal. This is a story of forgiveness, sorrow, joy, friendship, and love. I highly recommend this book.

Isabelle Wainwright and her teenage daughter, Haley, have moved to Ormond Beach, Florida to regroup after some unsettling evens in their lives. Isabelle has recently separated from her husband after learning he is gay and Haley has been the victim of bullying at school. Chloe Radcliffe encouraged Isabelle to move to Ormond Beach to help in her yarn shop and deliver pastries and coffee for Yarrow’s tea and coffee shop and Mavis Anne Overby has invited them to stay in her lovely Victorian home, Koi House. The move has proved to be a good one for Isabelle and Haley. They have both made friends and Isabelle has met a wonderful man. Isabelle is upset to learn that her mother, who abandoned her 30 years ago, has retired and is moving to Ormond Beach.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I knew after reading Terri DuLong's, Patterns of Change that I was going to read everything she wrote from there after. This book picks up where Patterns of Change leaves off except that it follows a new main character. You do not have to have read her first book to read this one since the author does a wonderful job getting you caught up with all of the characters, and there are alot of them. I love these books because they are just so easy and enjoyable, filled with love, friendship, sorrow, and joy. I highly recommend this book!

This is the second book in the Ormond Beach novel series. This book is the story of Isabelle Wainwright who moves to Ormond Beach with her daughter, Haley, after a divorce and the death of her father. When she arrives, Isabelle is very sorry for herself, drinking too much and very mad at her mother who left when Isabelle was fifteen. Over the course of the story each of these things are resolved with good results. The book was a quick easy read.

I really enjoy a quick girlfriend book, the good feelings and sharing of life's problems getting discussed and solved. Throw in family secrets and some romance, knitting, tea & pets, what could be better?
Isabelle is getting divorced, has a 14 year old daughter who may have an eating disorder, is moving to Florida and hasn't seen her mother in a very long time. Many issues become clear and resolved.
I needed a soft story right now and Stitches in Time fit the bill perfectly!

I wanted to like these books because of some reviewers' comparisons to Debbie Macomber, but all three of this series fell flat. Yes, I read all three. I did get engaged with some of the characters and the mysteries in the story lines, but the author's liberal bias and left-leaning political agenda was too much to deal with. There was one interesting character whose back story was alluded to, but then never fleshed out, so it was only there as a self-serving preaching of the liberal platform. I felt the mystic theme was unnecessary as well - too many stories competing with each other. Finally, as a Knitter, I found the repeated references to Ravelry and specific yarn and needle brands and yarns to be patronizing in an attempt to attract fiber artists to the books. Naming specifics like this is short-sighted and these books will definitely not stand the test of time. There were also references that a non-knitter wouldn't pick up on, but having knitalongs where every single knitter is using the identical yarn for the pattern is completely unrealistic, as well as instances where a completely inappropriate yarn choice is made, and another instance where the yarn store owner picks out needles for a new knitter without any comment as to gauge. Most of the knitting scenes were completely unrealistic.

My recommendation? Skip this author and read Debbie Macomber books.

Stitches in Time

If you want a book where most of the characters are unbelievably friendly and sugary then this is the book for you. Not a bad read, but I found Chadwick to be overly perfect so almost unbelievable, plus the name was never ever shortened ! I read the first book which I enjoyed more and bought the three because I like series
books because the characters often become dear to you. However after reading the second I’m not sure I’ll get to the third unless I have nothing else to read. The second was very much along the lines of the first. With a person moving to Ormond Beach, living in Koi House and meeting the man of their dreams. Isabelle had a drink problem which seemed to disappear very quickly when she met Chadwick and strangely had no problem having a couple glasses of wine and leaving it at that! She was mad with her mother all the time until her mother had an accident after which they had a most wonderful relationship (unrealistic again). The week her mother had the accident they were both supposed to be watching the shop but there was no mention about who went in to watch it.
The book read a bit like a fairytale with someone making up an ideal (mostly) world. Book 3 will be Petra now moving in and probably pairing up with Chadwick’s best man. So unfortunately I did not care for the characters

her mother left her with her dad for another man her father told her. she grew up , married had a daughter. her dad died, she got divorced. she moved to fl and worked delivering muffins in the morning. she fell in a parking lot and some man helped her, then asked her to dinner. they really like each other and have some dates. her mother is going to move 5 mins away which shes not happy about. her daughter loves the new school and made a best friend. she told her daughter her dad is divorcing her cause the person he is going to marry is a man. the girl is ok with that and she likes the guy her mom started dating. every thing with the exception of her mom moving there seems to be going well in her life.

she becomes friends with her mom after learning everything her dad told her about her moms leaving was not the truth according to her mom. she marries the man she met and they move into his house.

I loved this book. Since her husband left, Isabelle has been in a bad place in her life. But maybe, just maybe, a move to a new town can also mean a new beginning. She relocates to Ormond Beach with her teenage daughter Haley, staying with her friend Chloe. And before she knows it, Isabelle has new friends, a new job, even a new man in her life. Haley is also much happier in her new school. The only problem is Isabelle's relationship with the mother who left her thirty years earlier, when she was only fifteen. Iris has also decided to move to Ormond Beach, and hopes to reconnect. But will Isabelle be willing? This is a truly moving book, about relationships, and the many different types of love. Highly recommended.

Forgot to update this one! This is another sweet, feel good, brain-fluff read. I read a lot of non-fiction and love to be challenged so this is a good pallet cleanser for the heavier reads! As I commented on the first in this series - I also enjoy reading about Ormond Beach of which I have fond memories from childhood.

I liked this book. It was relaxing and as a knitter, I liked the added knitting friendships and camaraderie. I felt the outcome was rather dull, no surprises, just happiness and the perfect guys. Oh, if that were only true for everyone.

I picked this one up because I live in Ormond Beach and I love knitting. It was interesting to see familiar restaurants, roads, etc. mentioned, and the story was a pretty good love story/family drama. In a nutshell, it felt like a Hallmark movie...effortless and enjoyable!

This was a quick read. It is #2 in a series of books, and I don't think I'll read the rest. It was a typical woman in conflict....goes home......changes life........meets prince charming........happy ending....... pretty much what you expected from the start. She may be an award winning writer and I enjoyed her style and detail....but this book was 'good' at best. Would not recommend. It was .99 or 1.99 and worth all of that.

Stitches in Time by Terri Dulong
Have loved this series and the one prior. Love how the author brings you up to date but doesn't spend 3/4 of the book doing so as other authors.
Love the area, how it's described and know I'd fall right into place with the surroundings and people. It's such an easy going place and atmosphere.
This book starts out with Isabella and her teen daughter are heading to Ormond Beach to live since her careless cigarette back in Atlanta burned the house.
She stops off to visit with her long time friend for short time. She's concerned about her daughter, Haley as she exercises a lot and hardly eats. Her and Petra also discuss her mom Iris and their loss bond and the death of her father and the divorce of her husband. It's just been too much.
Like Brothers and Sisters and Parenthood the reason I like this series is because of the different ages of the characters and the different problems they are facing. Mix that in with yarn and tea and I've arrived at Paradise.
While they are staying at Koi House with Chloe, Isabelle's fathers girlfriend til he died, they are surrounded by many who care for them. Isabelle starts right in with a job delivering to the locals, teas and coffees along with home made muffins daily.
She finds herself at peace and satisfied as she knits and listens to music. Mystery surrounding the divorce and we learn of the details during the book and she has to explain it all to Haley...and her mother has a mystery to share with her also.
Loved learning about the sea turtles and the time she is able to spend with her new boyfriend, Chadwick. Mystery of the sisters death and her spirit that lingers fascinates me as she helps Isabelle to make choices.
SO interesting how things turn out, for everybody involved.

Thank you to NetGalley.com and to the publisher for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

A rainy spring Saturday made it an easy decision to curl up with the second book in the Ormand Beach series and read it all from start to finish. You know what you’re going to get when you read a Terri Dulong book – knitters finding love/solving their problems/basically saving the world by the end of the book. There are no major fights, no huge setbacks, no major drama. Just a lot of self introspection and finding the ability to solve the problem within themselves.

What I loved: Koi House – it seems like such a magical place even without the resident ghost. It has now welcomed the heroines of the first two books of the series and it looks like it will be center-stage for the third installment this fall when Petra moves to the area. Why not do a prequel about when Emmalynne was still alive since she seems to love the house so much?

What I didn’t love: I’m disappointed that Chloe (the star of Ormand Beach’s #1 book) was barely in this book – and they were supposed to be sharing a house??? I also don’t think the relationship between Isabelle and her teenage daughter was that realistic. I have one of these delicate species myself and rarely can 24 hours pass before one of us is annoying the other and we’re snipping at each other. Many times her daughter wakes up in the morning and gives her mother a kiss on the cheek upon entering the kitchen. Wha????? Mine growls at me when get her up and cannot manage to string two words together until she’s had some iced coffee and breakfast.

What I learned: I really need to learn how to knit.

Overall Grade: B

Stitches in Time is the second book in Ms. Dulong's Ormand Beach series though it can be read as a stand alone book. It's a heartwarming tale of love lost, a new life and love found but most importantly ~ growing and finding one's self after facing life's challenges.

{Likes} I enjoyed reading Stitches In Time! My favorite things? How realistic and engaging the characters in this book are and I enjoyed reading/experiencing the deep friendships between the main character and her women friends. It is so true that good, close friendships make such a positive difference in life!

{Things Wished For} I didn't have anything that I really disliked in this book but I did have a few wishes. Main Wish ~ I would have liked to have seen the friendship between Isabelle (main character) and Brenda (new friend) become more developed in this story. They met through their daughter's and it looked like they were becoming good friends but then that sub-plot fell to the wayside as the rest of Isabelle's story unfolded.

I felt like Brenda and her daughter had a story to tell so maybe (hopefully) Ms. Dulong will write a book about them before she is done with this series!

Stitches in Time was as great a read as the first book in this series, Patterns of Change. I can't wait for the next book in this series to be released. I give this book 4.5 Stars!

Thank you to Lyrical Press and Netgalley for the gift of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have enjoyed all Ms. DuLong's books and Stitches in Time was no different. This story was filled with family, friendship and an opportunity for a second chance.

The characters immediately pulled me in and I quickly found myself caring about them and wanting to know how the story would end. I don't knit or crochet, but I wish I did because it would be fun to make a scarf, as the group did in this novel.

The only issue I had at all with this novel is how Isabelle was so concerned about Petra's weight and wondering if Petra may have had an eating disorder. Fairly often a comment would be thrown into the story about what Petra was eating, but rather than examining the situation further, Isabelle just moved on. I felt that after bringing up an eating disorder, the author had a great chance to delve a little deeper into something that affects a lot of people. Typically eating disorders don't suddenly cure themselves, so I feel this should have been examined a little deeper.

I look forward to reading another in this series soon. Thanks go to Netgalley, Ms. DuLong and the publisher for allowing me to read an early copy of Stitches in Time in exchange for my honest review.

In Stitches in Time author Terri DuLong takes readers back to Ormond Beach, Florida. This time the featured character is Isabelle Wainwright, adult daughter of Chloe Radcliffe’s (principal character from book 1) former boyfriend. After Isabelle’s father died she remained close to Chloe and that’s how she and her teenage daughter end up relocating to Ormond Beach.

Life is progressing favorably when Isabelle gets a surprise – her estranged mother decides to retire to Ormond Beach and reconnect with her daughter and granddaughter. Can Isabelle ever reconcile with the woman who deserted her thirty years earlier?

Stitches in Time is about forgiveness and second chances. I liked it and especially enjoyed the relationships between all of the women in the novel. Knitting is featured prominently and a pattern for the scarf discussed within the story is included at the end of the book. I look forward to the next book in the series. Recommended to fans of women’s fiction, knitting, and Terri DuLong.

Love and friendship are stitched in time on Ormond Beach

Isabelle Wainwright is a divorced, mother of one teenaged daughter who is moving to Ormond Beach. Isabelle is very depressed that her husband Roger has left her for a man. She allows everyone including her daughter to assume that she has been abandoned for another woman. Isabelle has other abandonment issues as well. Her mother left when she was fifteen but recently has been trying to reconnect. Isabelle allows her daughter to communicate with her grandmother but wants nothing to do with her herself.

When they reach Ormond Beach, they stay in a lovely place called Koi House which is haunted by a former inhabitant. As both Isabelle and Haley make friends and take on jobs their lives become richer and they are much happier.

This book is part of a series of books that are intertwined. I think that each could be read as stand alone without the reader missing much. I like the cozy warmth of these books. The characters are likeable.

STITCHES. IN. TIME a great title, for one's life. In this story we meet Isabelle, mother of Hayley a 14 year teenager. Willing to move to Florida
Isabelle , her father has passed, and husband Roger has left. Still struggling with being abandoned when her mother left 30 year's ago. They have never connected since, now finding she has retired and moving to Florida also. This is about second chances, and about love, long or short.
A dear friend, Petra, from childhood, tells her, like it is, and is close to Isabelle mother. Can old wounds heal, and new beginnings start. Realizing her and her mother both have been in a holding pattern, and time has gone by for both of them
A delightful, family story to enjoy and share.
Given book by Net..Galley for my honest opinion of which I have given.
