I like reading, writing, working in the garden, cycling, bridge, politics, and thinking about the world as it is and ought to be. Other people fascinate me, and I have an enduring curiosity about our history and culture.
I am the author of three novels including my latest, a zany, high-stakes, new scifi thriller, Final Warning: Return of the Neanderthals. Out of the gate, this book received a very favorable review from Kirkus Reviews.
My historical romance, Heathcliff: The Lost Years, released in 2019, tracks the three years that Heathcliff was away from Wuthering Heights, and has been favorably reviewed by Kirkus Reviews, The Historical Novels Review, The Compulsive Reader and other publications.
Introducing the Richest Family in America, a comic farce, was my first novel.
My writings include eight non-fiction books in the health area. Several of my artist's books have been acquired by major collections including the Museum of Modern Art Library. Facade, a collection of my poetry, was published by O Press in New York.
My work history is definitely varied. I've worked as a newspaper reporter, a ranch foreman, a craps dealer, an encyclopedia salesman, a funeral director, a hot tamale vendor, and an inner-city schoolteacher. I was county chairman for two political campaigns.
I was a freelance journalist for 12 years and I've worked professionally as an editor and correspondent for national trade magazines and newspapers and news services including The San Francisco Chronicle and Dow Jones News Service. I won a couple of awards for feature writing and advertising copywriting.
I received an A.A. in liberal arts from Brevard College, where I was elected student body president. I have a B.A. in English literature from the University of California at Riverside, and an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Iowa's Writer's Workshop in Iowa City, Iowa.
Currently, I reside in the great city of Los Angeles.
