Saint Tail is a pretty cute series, with a magician/thief doing a Robin Hood act (stealing only to help others or to return stolen items to their rightful owners) with the help of her friend, a nun-in-training. I don't really have any complaints about the series (even the obviously flawed understanding of Catholicism is more earnestly oblivious than insulting) but I didn't feel attached enough to it to continue the series. If I had read this as a teenager (you know, when I was actually part of the target audience) I probably would have really liked it. Nice manga, just hitting me at the wrong time.

Realistically this is more like a 3.5 to star series but for my rating tracking purposes i'm giving this a five. I absolutely loved this series and still have my set! This was the second manga and magical series I read and though geared towards a younger audience the stories are cute, the artwork is delicate and wispy and just enjoyable!

Cute~
It's the unbelievable story of an elementary schooler who is the "Magical Theif Saint Tail." Her father is a magician and whose mother was once a master theif, so she gets it from her parents, definitely. She steals in the name of the church and returns things to their rightful owners. Think Robin Hood with a nun-in-training for a friend.
Fun characters, crazy heists... It's absolutely unbelievable, but if you can suspend your belief and go along for the ride, you'll love it. Definitely.

What a cute story. There is some "God" related content here, but it is played in a way so that it doesn't seem to direct a serious stereotype but more like a childhood story, like "And may God be with you" praying. Saint tail seems to serve a particular good cause, even though she is "stealing." Her relationship with Sherlocks seem similar with Kaitou Jeanne and Sinbad+Marron's best friend.

Saint Tail is one of my favourite magical girls from the 90's I adore the combination of cuteness with magic tricks. Megumi Tachikawa makes every volume fun I enoy her little side notes on her favourite Japanese artist of the day Spy by Noriyuki Makihara is a fast favourite of mine it is perfect for Saint Tail.

Definitely solid, but not my favorite magical girl. However, I think I’m biased due to religious trauma and this does mention Christianity a lot in it (praying, saying nothing can happen as long as god is protecting her, etc). On the flip side, I absolutely LOVE how she is magician themed and pulls tricks all the time due to that, so that’s a huge plus. I will continue reading.

Wonderfully sweet and fluffy shoujo manga which quietly subverts and adds a lot to the genre. It's one of my favorites.
Meimi Haneoka is a normal girl in a Catholic school. But when night comes, she becomes the mysterious thief Saint Tail, who steals to right wrongs and stop criminals. But the classmate she has a small crush on, Asuka, is the son of a famous detective. He has vowed to do nothing else but stop her. But then the two of them start to play a dangerous game of challenging each other, and while Haneoka loves Asuka, Asuka is starting to fall heavily in love...with Saint Tail!
Reading this again reminds me how much this subverts and plays with a lot of the trappings of the shoujo genre. Asuka junior is not some mysterious aloof stranger like Tuxedo Rose from Sailor Moon, nor is he a wounded bad boy with internal angst: he's stubborn, a bit of a brat, loyal, perceptive (but not too much,) and utterly infuriating. Watching him slowly fall in love with the mysterious thief he's vowed to catch (and that he knows really is working for good) is such a treat.
Saint Tail as well is a total subversion of the normal magical girl idea. She barely shows any skin, has no supernatural powers (though her magic pushes the bounds a little bit-she's a stage magician like her father,) uses her mind as much as her abilities, and is in command as much reacting to things. But what I think makes her so powerful is what she embodies; a happy, mysterious, tricky, and beautiful young woman who embodies the chasing aspect of courtship and love. Saint Tail is so valuable to Asuka that he alone wants to catch her, and slowly, Meimi finds herself wanting to be caught. It's a very sweet story with little angst and plenty of warmth to it, and it gets better with each volume.
The supporting cast is fun, too. Seira is a classmate of Meimi who is a nun-in-training. She is the one who gets the info on her heists, as people confess how they have been robbed or need help. Other volumes introduce more characters, more depth, and more twists.
The art style is a little minimalist, but works okay. It looks much better in color. In the first volume you get two earlier stories about a morning glory that fell in love with a man and traded her petals for a girl's form, and a witch who tries to bring the star Sirius down to make a love potion, but with unexpected results. Just like the main story, all are sweet little romances, and the book itself is a very fun read.
I really recommend this to fans of manga. It's rare for shoujo to be as playful or as gentle as this, and it makes for a wonderful antidote to all the angst and pain in modern manga.

Well, it took me forever but I was finally able to get all the seven volumes of this series. I used to love the anime when I was a kid, even if the Italian broadcaster butchered the story, splitting Seria into two identical twins because they feared that knowing that a little girl could be a nun would be very, very dangerous to little Italian minds.
Anyway...
Maybe I'm a bit too old for this story. I like the fluffiness of it and I like the art. But it's really a childish story.
The two bonus story are bad. The first one, the one about the morning glory, is very confused and I was difficult to understand what was going on. The second one... I think there were some panels missing because it doesn't make that much sense.

It was super cute and different than the other magical girl manga! It reminded me a bit of Cardcaptor Sakura because she is a young girl but totally different and creative story. Can't wait to read more!
