Lindsey Scott has a happy marriage and plans for a family, but an unexplained illness sweeps across the country, killing citizens and turning them into ravenous monsters. When Lindsey's husband meets the same fate, she is forced to reevaluate her purpose in life.

After she is saved by Andrew, a handsome stranger with his own dark past, she must decide whether or not to risk her fragile heart one last time—or to just keep existing like the dead that surround her.

As the living become a larger threat than the dead, Lindsey and Andrew, along with their group, must do whatever it takes to survive.

Cities of Rust is the first book of its type for me to read and I am already looking forward to the second in the trilogy. From the well formed characters, the clear description of the setting, to the danger of both zombies and mad men out for blood, I am thoroughly enjoying this book.
It has touching romance, suspense, and characters who make you laugh. You just can't go wrong in picking it up and escaping into Ariel Bonin's world.

Loved this book!! Could hardly put it down. The excitement just paused long enough to catch my breath. Wow! What an amazing story! Yes, there are zombies, but it's the interactions between the living that keeps the story thrilling. The world has gone to hell, will people be angels or devils? When pushed to the farthest reaches of endurance, what would you do?

So great!
Merged review:

Amazing! There is literally nothing I love more than a good scary, gross zombie story.
I loved the story behind the outbreak and how all the characters survived. I love the teenage daughter, Zoey, too. She reminded me of myself as a teenager...but with more zombies, obviously.
I'm soooo excited for the next book! I can't wait!

This was a great read! The author writes with such wonderful detail; you really get to know and feel for each of the characters. It's the perfect amount of suspense and romance that keeps you interested and wanting more. I couldn't put it down and am axiously awaiting the release of the next book. Highly recommend!

Very good read. I took it with me on my vacation to the Dominican Republic and I could not put it down. I loved the connection between the two main characters, Lindsey and Andrew. There is a great deal of suspense topped with a few steamy parts to keep it interesting and on your toes. Definitely recommend and cannot wait for the next book!

This book sucked me in from page one. I now can not wait to get my hands on book 2. I have fallen in love with the characters. The way this book is written just keeps you turning pages. Finished it in 2 days, didn't get a lot of sleep but it was worth it.

DNF'd when it switched POV.

I didn't pick this up to re-read a dryly written Walking Dead... don't know or care which one was written first. Got so bored of the 100% predictability within only 20 minutes of reading.

If romance in the time of zombies sounds appealing to you, then this is a good book to get.

The prose is well executed, the characters deep, the plot full of twists (though perhaps sometimes a little too neatly tied up), and the romance scenes tasteful.

All in all, an enjoyable read.
