Covering over 6 million acres in upstate New York, the Adirondack region is the largest wilderness "park" in the lower 48 states. This series of eight guidebooks (seven for the Adirondacks and one for the Catskills) published by the Adirondack Mountain Club provides a comprehensive guide to hiking and trekking in the region. Outlined here are many short day hikes as well as longer backpacking and camping excursions. Short, moderate, and harder hikes are recommended for each geographic section. A detailed topographic map is included with every guidebook. The introduction has a great deal of information on the natural and human history of the region, including a geologic background. Highly recommended for serious hikers and occasional visitors alike.

Some trail books are full of history and the personality of the writer. This one is the nitty gritty details - and sometimes sparse on those (no time estimates are given, for example). I wouldn't use this alone - at least check logs on SummitPost or cross reference with the Falcon guide before attempting a route.
