Recommends it for: manga readers who liked Pandora Hearts, or strange steampunk vampires

Have just read the first volume so far, which is not enough in this medium to form a judgment. Well, the artwork is very fine, again. I may pick up more at a later time to follow out the story, because I have no idea what way she's going with this. I have found that with this artist standard starting tropes do not necessarily mean standard developments.

Steampunk vampires in alternate-world 19th. C. Paris, so far. Possibly consequent to letting a Japanese manga artist visit Paris and take a

3.8 stars I guess? The artwork is breathtaking as usual and... vampires! How can I resist!?

But the MC.................well...he is annoying in a typical Jun Mochizuki's way. He is so witty and cheerful that I can't really stand him, but will continue to read the rest of the series anyway because I am still very curious about the conflicts between the Blue vampire and the Red ones.

Pandora Hearts was one of my favorite manga series, so I have been itching to read more of Mochizuki's work. Happy to say this met and exeeded my expectations; full of great characters, French culture/folklore, Gothic overtones, and a dash of steampunk- I can hardly wait to read more!

With the sick vampire, the doctor, the steampunk world and the book of Vanitas, this had thrown alot at me early on and I was not yet sure, what to think of it.
At first I only had a problem with the narrative style but then the story threw one character and one world-building element after the other at me with rapid speed and there was no way that I could remember even a quarter of it after one week. Vanitas even has some vampiric power now (despite being human) and has a different (kinda

I've never liked vampires much, but Mochizuki Jun's newest work has made me thoroughly interested. The most interesting, however, is the titular character Vanitas himself. At times an actor for comic relief, and at times a clever, charismatic enigma, he has become quite an endearing and confusing character. Is he a hero, an anti-hero, or a villain? It has been a long time since I have read about such an eccentric character. I presume it will be fun to see how the story unfolds onwards.

And I also

So I've been debating Pandora Hearts for soooo long because I can't decide whether or not I'm going to enjoy it as I've heard mixed things. At some point during that debate I spotted this, and I immediately knew I was going to love it.
I have such a love for Steampunk I couldn't say no and I finally got round to reading it and I am in LOVE! It has such a cool take on vampires, and I'm intrigued to learn more about them and the little problem they have! Honestly vampires in ya are all the same

this is the tale of how i met vanitas,

and how we walked together ... of all we gained,

and lost, and how, at the end of that journey,

i would kill him with my own two hands.

So,

Here I am once again, completely hooked in another Jun Mochizuki's manga. I have to say that I love the background details and the steampunk touch of the enviroment.

Here we have a naive but strong vampire named Noe, and an eccentric-slash-crazy human named Vanitas who calls himself a Vampire doctor.

We have the legend of the Vampire of the Blue Moon, that sets the story around the mistery of the book of Vanitas that it's said to be able to control and destroy vampires but our quirky main

Awkward scene jumps occurred often causing confusion and jarring during the story. Not sure if that's a translation error or something with the story itself. Feels too rushed and things haven't really been explained in any way for the reader to understand. There's a lack of worldbuilding yet at the same time massive info dumps and back story that jars me out of the story as I have to go back and reread to even understand what just happened.

Characters are introduced at rapid fire speed with no

The Case Study of Vanitas is mindless fun, featuring vampires and steampunk Paris as setting. I probably won't be continuing on with the series, I am not hooked enough, but if the manga gets an anime adaptation I'll be happy to watch it.

The art is pretty and the characters are mostly lovely. However I did not like that Vanitas kissed a random lady out of nowhere in the last chapter (ch.4). Noe was fun though.

I'm going to be real for a minute and say I was putting this off for a long time because I was so uninterested in it, but after actually sitting down and reading it I fell in love.
Holy moly. This was unexpectedly awesome! It's beautiful, fun, and action packed. The lore is fantastic, and the characters are just great. All around, a fabulous take on steampunk vampires in Paris!

I very much enjoyed volume 1 and am looking forward to the next. I thought the translation was done well and I like how they translated the sound effects. Also, gorgeous formatting.

The genre and story are right up my ally so I liked all of that. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the thing with Jeanne and Vanitas in the last chapter so I'm a bit wary now of that and the fact that Noe is going to kill Vanitas apparently? Definitely will

You must never let anyone steal your true name. Your true name is the formula that shapes your very being

Set in a steampunk version of the XIX century Paris where humans and vampires coexist, The Case Study Of Vanitas follows Vanitas, mere human doctor who specialises in vampires, and Noé, a young vampire, in their journey to heal vampires from a mysterious illness that is stealing their true names.

The artwork is truly incredible, I didn’t expect any less from this author tbh. Every panel is so

This review originally appeared on my blog, Books Without Any Pictures: http://bookswithoutanypictures.com/20...

The Case Study of Vanitas is a steampunk vampire manga set in Paris. The plot revolves around a magical book that can change the essence of a vampire, cursing them to become a monster, or curing them and making them whole again. The protagonist is a vampire named Noe who encounters Vanitas, a self-proclaimed vampire doctor who has the book and is using it to heal vampires who have lost

I'm 90% sure this manga series was suggested to me by 2 friends multiple times. I can see why. I went in expecting a chill story and came out cursing my (still) unemployment because I must!! buy!! the other volumes!! Reading on a computer is not a great experience for me. For some reason this reminded me a bit of D. Gray Man, though the stories are nothing alike.

Heck, after finding out that the mangaka of Pandora Hearts had made a new serialisation set in steampunk France with a cool concept on vampires, how could I resist. The artwork is beautiful, the characters charming and the story intriguing.

If you're looking to satisfy a paranormal itch with a hint of steampunk, look no further.

Hmm, I don't know about this one...

First of all, let me say that I am a HUGE Mochizuki fan. Her Pandora Hearts 1巻 series is the first manga I ever read and is the reason I am so deep in this realm now. I saw her artwork progress throughout the years and now it's reached a point that it just can't get any better. She draws so beautifully it makes me want to be a character in her mangas. Not to mention her wit and the way she spins the stories. Pandora Hearts was such a complex and amazing thing

Jun Mochizuki, I've fallen in love with your work all over again.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" is that perfect combination of borderline-insane characters, good plot, literary references (both subtle and totally not) and great artwork that I came to expect from Mochizuki-sensei after reading Pandora Hearts. This time, instead of Alice in Wonderland (and other Victorian literature references), we get vampires and French historical/literary references (both subtle and totally not). We get wolfmen,

I really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed reading "Pandora Hearts" and Jun Mochizuki, the author of "Pandora Hearts", is also the author of this book, so I decided to read it. The end of chapter one made me realize that the story was definitely the type of story Jun Mochizuki writes. "Pandora Hearts" was extremely dark and was full of twist and turns and after reading chapter one of "The Case Study Of Vanitas", I knew that this story was also going to be dark and full of twists similar to ...more

Ah, yet again Jun Mochizuki has captivated me with another one of her works.
The Case Study of Vanitas, or Vanitas no Carte opened and introduced the characters nicely, still leaving some information in the shadows. If you liked Pandora Hearts, you should definitely pick this up. The art style is absolutely gorgeous, she is one of the best mangakas out there, in my opinion. The story line is strong, but it being a first volume there are still a few things that are in need of unravelling. I look

I was hooked in by the beautiful cover and the fact that it is vampires in steampunk Paris! I mean, just mash my favourite things together why don’t you.

Realistically, there was too many fight scenes in this story for it to hook me. Honestly, fight scenes are the easiest way to put me to sleep. Great concept, interesting plot line but far too many pointless fights for me...

This was a pretty good way to start things off.

Now I will say while I'm familiar with Pandora Hearts, I was never a big fan of the series. I remember reading the first chapter in a magazine and not being too interested. And then later on trying to watch the anime and never got far. The beginning of PH just felt...weak to me I guess, despite it's interesting set up at the start. It wasn't until the later chapters I started getting hooked in more. I will also say that I never felt quite attached
