When I left, I never planned on looking back. Walking away from the only boy I’d ever loved, I thought I was making the right decision. For me. For us. I was wrong. Now I’m back, and the past is too much. Tate Corbin is no longer the sweet boy next door, But rather a man who hates me.
Tate
When she left, she took a piece of me. A piece that had always belonged to her, and I knew— I knew I’d never get over losing her, never get through the pain alone. But I moved on—never thought I’d care again, About her. About us. I was wrong. Now, Callie Winters is back And I can’t let go, I can’t step away.
Now only one question remains: Will our love be rekindled? Or will it go down in flames?
The story was written well and if you love friends turn lover romances this book it was for you. The book has a little bit of everything, romance, comedy and some drama. The story held my attention but I found myself predicting the outcome before it happened and I was right. Overall I would read another story by this author as she has a promising career.
*** This a standalone, second-chance romance which is one of my favorites. I started reading this at work during breaks… that was a bit of a mistake because by end the of the day I was tearing up, smearing my eye make-up. This love story gets all the feels -- sexy, sweet and heart-wrenching. The sacrifices you make for the one you love can break you in the process.
“Sometimes love just isn’t enough”
The first chapter gives us a background story when Callie and Tate, who are best childhood friends, graduate and are about to embark on college life. Tate professed his love for Callie but she stomped on it and decided to get married to someone else, moving across the country. But don’t fault her yet – she has her reasons.
Seven years forward, circumstances bring Callie and her son back to her hometown. Callie is broken in so many ways. She is strong though and is determined to pick up the pieces in order to build a new life for her son. She does not need distractions and the last person she wants to run into is her ex best friend Tate. Tate is a hot fire fighter, engaged and for the first time seems to have put the pieces of his heart back together. Tate is still very resentful Callie chose Zack -- someone who is wealthier and could give her the moon. This part is where the interaction made me wince… I hurt for both of them. But some love lasts a lifetime and seeing Callie again proves that Tate can’t choose who he loves. After all those years, Tate’s feelings for Callie never die – it has just been sleeping awhile. Tate wants the truth and closure as to why Callie left so many years ago, but the answer is something more than he bargained for. Of course there is a twist in this story and I did not really see that coming either. There is also a bit of drama and suspense involving Zack which got my heart racing at the end. I like the characters in this book… Callie is strong, sassy but also loving. Tate is sexy, loyal and a good guy. I always say I like love stories involving children – children are my soft spot and this story is no different. The way Tate adores Callie’s little boy just melted my heart.
This is the first time I read McKella’s book and I really enjoyed the author’s writing style. The dialogues are playful and sassy. The story is told in an alternate point of view while dabbing into past events. Get some tissue ready because when you get about ½ way you will cry at the circumstances surrounding Tate’s little sister. The story is paced nicely from beginning to end and kept my interest the whole time. My only complaint is how Callie and Tate got back together -- it was a bit quick. Also the relationship between Tate and Rylee ended too abruptly without much explanation. I understand this is more of a Callie and Tate story, but I would have liked a bit closure for Rylee as she seems like a nice girl. Just to be clear though there is no cheating involved. I think this is a debut novel for author McKella. In my opinion it was an amazing and surprising read – I loved it. Looking forward to more stories from author McKella in the future :)

This is the debut novel of CJ McKella and I am amazed. I find it hard to believe that this author has never written a book before. This book drew me in from page one and I could not put it down. The story was excellently executed and flowed really well. I was literally hooked from the get go.
Tate and Callie have been best friends since they were seven years old until one night, Tate tells Callie something he's been holding in for years whilst Callie tells Tate the she has to leave. We then jump seven years later and find that their lives have taken a different turn than planned. We are introduced to more characters who play a great part in the book. There are twists are turns but in the end, love wins out, in all different forms. Admittedly, I did cry at a certain part of this book and when you read it you will know exactly when I did. But for me, that only added to the story and made the characters and the story as a whole more developed.
I personally cannot wait to read more from CJ McKella and I wonder where her and her amazing story telling skills have been hiding! If you haven't had the pleasure of reading this 5 star read then you absoloutely must. It is going on my favourite books of 2016 so far list and defintiley in my reread pile. I'm afraid I'm left with a rather large book hangover so I will be revisiting Tate, Callie and the gang very soon!
Congratulations CJ McKella on a debut novel that is very well deserving of 5 stars!
I don't usually like the chapter back and forths of Indie novels, because sometimes I read without noticing the characters changed (which did happen a few times) but found this story quite believable. A well written story with a good plot and likeable characters. The setting of a lake town in Idaho actually made me want to go visit. Some people are fated to be together, and love can be rekindled when all seems lost. The entire plot line is pulled together at the end, why some things happened and why the bad guy acted like he did. A very impressive first novel. I look forward to reading more by this author.

This book was so the best of both world, I love second chance romances, and these two people coming together for the first in years, and I love best friends to lovers romances, and these people used to be best friends. I was so excited about this book, and thankfully I liked it a lot. I really like when characters already have a long history together, and I especially like when characters have issues that have existed for a long time that need to be worked through, makes for great drama.
So Callie is back in town after her life kind of imploded without any warning. She has a daughter to take care of so she has to do what is best for her daughter, which means moving in with her brother while she figures out how to get her life together. I liked her a lot, she a tough woman, who still really young and I know a lot of people her age wouldn't have handled things as well as she did. Granted she does have help from her brother, a lot of help actually, but they have a good relationship, and it's obvious that she's not taking advantage or anything. I really liked how she stood up for herself when she needed to, but she was also just a really nice person who was pretty respectful even in situations where that would have been hard to do. She's a great mom and just a cool chick, that I liked.
Tate is more interesting to me. Him and Callie used to be best friends, for basically their whole lives, but when he asked for me and she says no and that she is marrying her boyfriend before they go to college, well Tate kind of loses it. Cuts off all contact with Callie, seven years go by, and when the book starts he's engaged to someone else. Seeing Callie again is not exactly the top priority for him, so when she shows up he really doesn't handle it all that well. To an extent I understood, first loves are hard to get over, and seeing her again really brought back a lot of memories for him that I'm not sure he was really ready to deal with. I did love the push and pull between them, trying to figure out if they could be friends again, if they wanted more, how to handle everything, it just all played out really perfectly for me.
These two had chemistry right from the beginning but what made it better was the issues they had to get past. They also had a really tragic event in the past that they went through together, that really effected them both. I also have to say I kind of adored Callie's kid, he was awesome, and Tate was really awesome with him as well. Of course the kids dad had to show up and make thing all kinds of messed up, but hey exes are almost always bad news, and in this case it only made the ending sweeter. All in all it was good read for me. a Rafflecopter giveaway
Rookie author's are a gamble. I just can't resist reading their material though because I like to see if I'm going to get to be one of their original fans. I like drive the bandwagon, so to speak.
Also, this book's teaser said it would be one of my favorite types of romances... second-chance, friends-to-lovers romance. That part didn't disappoint. Tate and Callie were friends since they were ten, but an incident happened right after graduation that tore them apart. They reconnected seven years later and eventually got together.
I liked Callie for the most part, but the reason she made her decision to leave Tate was rather callous. Of course, seventeen is a young age to make that kind of decision, so it could be explained that way. However, I don't know many kids that age who would think the way she did.
Tate was my favorite kind of hero: just a tad alpha, strong, funny, sexy with a dirty mouth. He showed vulnerability, also which is very endearing to me. He was a tad immature at times, but he is only twenty-six. I did hate his job, though. Don't get me wrong, jumping out of a plane into a forest to fight wildfires is noble and sexy in its own right, but I have to question people who take dangerous jobs like that. It's not a plain firefighter; this job is way riskier. Are they adrenaline junkies, men who secretly harbor a death wish, or guys with a superhero complex? Whichever reason would scare the crap out of me. A man who doesn't care enough about his own safety is one to whom I'd rather not attach myself.
There were a few things that bugged me though. The villains in this story were melodramatic cartoon characters (one even actually twirled his moustache). It made the drama they faced feel more than a little cliche.
I also didn't like the omitted details. Normally I hate unnecessary details, but I wouldn't call the ones omitted unnecessary. One example was seeing Tate and Jules' breakup. We were told once that the deed was committed, but we get no details, just a passing "we're not together anymore." This and other missing details were annoying.
And no one in Texas calls University of Texas UoT. It's just UT. (As a mother of an Aggie, defending those Teasippers seems wrong, but I'll defend myself by explaining that I'm acting as a Texan.)
The storyline is a good one. The love scenes, once they finally happened, were fantastic. Overall, this was a pretty darn good first go for a newbie.
I had high hopes for this book, too high perhaps. I was looking for a dark, gritty, rip me apart kind of story and that was not what this was. Rekindled was a good book, don't get me wrong, but it was more rainbows and flowers that I had expected.
I appreciated most of the situations that CJ McKella set up in this book. Where it fell short, for me, was in the carry out. Instead of taking the hard road, the potentially dangerous road; every time there was an easy escape she took it. Even when it seemed out of the characters normal response. It was a bit disappointing for me, as I prefer the harsh truth of life to a perfectly sewn up happy ending.
CJ McKella did develop her characters very well, and I think that was what made the story harder for me to accept. I felt like each one had such strong traits that when one of them didn't act within those traits, I felt let down. I wanted more authenticity from them.
I will, most likely, try another book from Ms. McKella; as her writing was strong and I genuinely cared what happened to each character. I can only hope that I will find more truth in her future works.
A debut novel form C J McKella and my what a debut.
The story engulfs you and keeps you captivated to the end.
Callie and Tate childhood friends and inseparable until life and choices made get in the way and tear them apart.
Reunited after 7 years can the past be laid to rest, will old flames re ignite and burn strong again?
The story has twists and turns and surprises along the way that will make you laugh and cry as the fires of your heart and soul feel the words of every page.
A fabulous first from C J McKella and can't wait for the next .
The only thing is Tate is actually engaged to a different women when Callie shows back up in town 7 years later, Plus she’s married also. Her case is her selfish gambling addict of a husband took everything, Whiped their back account, maxed their credit cards, bank took their house and the man ran away, all because she asked him for something, so she packed up and moved to Idaho. Tate just recently proposed to his girlfriend of 1 year, when they announced it was when Callie was in the restaurant looking for a job. Tate wasn’t nice to her because of Callie’s choose all those years ago. Tate don’t know Callie!s circumstances of why she’s there and not in Texas where her parents live, why she seems to want one thing but says something else.
When I left, I never planned on looking back. Walking away from the only boy I’d ever loved, I thought I was making the right decision. For me. For us. I was wrong. Now I’m back, and the past is too much. Tate Corbin is no longer the sweet boy next door, But rather a man who hates me.

*I wrote this review as I was reading it. So you can tell my emotions were all over the place as I was writing it all down*
Ok... This was a first for me as in... even though I was having a problem with one of the main characters. I still was fully engrossed in this book. And at the end of the book. It totally won me over and I fully enjoyed it!!
I was frustrated... I was angry... I was rolling my eyes! And yes... I was even screaming!...lol while reading this book. But even though I was going through all that. This book still kept my attention and I didn't want to stop reading it.
This book started off so promising. I mean... I was really loving it up until Callie broke Tate's heart. The way she treated Tate was just so cold and mean! I really could not stand her! I mean seriously... Why would anyone want to go back or forgive a person that said and did what Callie did to Tate! It's pretty unforgivable in my book! And as I read on and Callie found herself back in Idaho. All I kept thinking was GOOD! She got exactly what she deserved! She brought all that upon herself by choosing Zack. When Tate and Callie's path finally cross again. I was truly shocked by what Callie said! Like really shocked! Why would she think that just because 7 years has past that Tate wouldn't still be upset? He literally took a chance and poured his heart out to her. And she just treated what he said as if it was nothing! She shattered him! So yes!... His anger was totally justified.
Ok...30% in I'm all over the place with my feeling for both Callie and Tate. Callie I felt made her bed. She was the one to made the decision she made with her life. I really don't get why she's so upset with Tate for not accepting her attempts to reach out to him. Yes... She knew she messed up. But really... She just needed to accept and move on and start off by saying how sorry she was for everything she did to Tate. And Tate.... Needs to accept that all of what Callie is going through was not his fault. He shouldn't be the one apologizing to Callie for anything. It killed me to read those part in this book!
47% in and I'm starting to feel the shift. And I'm starting to connect with Tate and Callie's characters. But one thing that keeps bugging me is Callie. I'm 76% in and not once has she apologized to Tate for what she did and said to him. Yes... She explained as to why she made the decision she made. But... I felt she never really owned up to it. She needed to apologize to Tate in order for me to fully accept her. So far... The only person that keeps apologizing is Tate! Which is killing me! Because I honestly feel he did nothing wrong!!!!
Towards the end of the book. I can honestly say I was fully feeling this book. I can totally see this book being played out like a movie in my head. I could feel the attraction and the want coming from Tate when it came to Callie. They both loved each other so much that they both had a hard time letting go of the past.
I'm so glad this book ended the way it did. And that I took a chance on it.
There was one thing I wish we would have gotten more about and it was Jules character. I would have liked to know more about what went down between Tate and her. I mean it was like there she was then poof... Gone. Nothing was said after! I wanted more from all that. What did she say to Tate? How did she react? I would have liked that bit of drama.
Overall... Good book!

Once upon a time, Callie Winters and Tate Corbin were inseparable. Best friends forever, they were two halves of a whole. But life happened, and drove a wedge between them, and words spoken in anger led to broken hearts and years apart. But when Callie's happily every after ended up being not quite what she was expecting, she returns to the one place that truly feels like home, hoping to clear her mind and heal her heart. When the person that still holds the key to her heart makes a reappearance, Callie will learn that some flames never go out.
I'm always pleasantly surprised when an author's debut novel ends up being a book that is engaging and well-written. REKINDLED is C.J. McKella's first book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As a fan of the second-chance love story, I was hooked on Callie's and Tate's story from the first chapter. Not only was there a great back story between the two of them, but both Callie and Tate were well-developed characters, with stories of their own that had evolved over the seven-year period that they had been apart. C.J. also does a nice job with the supporting characters, and with the suspense that builds during the course of the book, making sure that everything is resolved in a realistic and satisfying way.
When you take on an author that you've never read, there is always the risk of the unknown, but C.J. has made her mark with REKINDLED, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future (I wouldn't mind seeing Caleb, Callie's brother, get a book of his own, maybe with Mari, so, C.J., if you're reading this, help a girl out.). 4 stars for this suspenseful, romantic, plenty steamy read, one that you should definitely add to your TBR.

I loved this book, it was 2 of my favourite things rolled into one. Second chances and Friends to lovers. This b ook does have a little drama but their story is addictive and I loved the way their relationship evolved.
7 years ago Callie made one of the hardest decision she would ever had to make. She chose to marry a man who could provide for her and her unborn child over the man she had loved since a child her best friend Tate. Now callie is home and living with her son and brother since her husband has disapeard after loosing everything they had. He has an addiction to gambling and as far a she can see he has choose that over his family...She wants a divorce.
7 years ago Tate put his heart and feelings on the line to the woman he loved but she broke it, she walked away. Tate has struggled ever since. In such a short space of time he lost his sister in a tragic accident and then Callie. After is father had a stroke he moved home and that is where he now lives with his fiance and works as a fire jumper
Now... they are back in their home town and when they see each other old feelings begin to burn again. Callie knows she made a mistake but can see Tate has moved on, she may be jealous but she knows this was her fault.Tate is angry, just when things are going good for him she is back but why and why cant he stop thinking about her.
With a loving fiance, an addicted Ex and their own feelings what is in store for this couple.
I can assure you that what lies ahead is HOT HOT HOT!!!
This is another first-time read by an author for me. I will admit I basically signed up because of the gorgeous cover, but I was also in the mood for second chance romances. In fact I've been in a book funk waiting to get my hands on a copy of this. I haven't been able to read anything else until I finished it.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but what I got was a hard to put down read that was exactly what I needed. The second chance element was great, the chemistry between Tate and Callie was good. However, and more importantly, their friendship was well crafted and believable. I loved all of the little stories from their childhood. They added an authenticity to their relationship and made me fall in love with them. It was easy to see the bond between them despite the years apart and I thought the pacing of the relationship was good.
Similarly, the plot was also interesting and kept me hooked. I will admit some of the back story and side issues weren't completely tied up. I felt the author just let the secondary characters fade out without an explanation and could have given a more satisfactory resolution to those parts of the book, but the main plot was good. I'm still not sure what a smokejumper is since living in the UK big wild fires aren't common, but it was definitely a new and intriguing concept to me that made Tate all the more loveable.
Overall, a great read I thoroughly enjoyed. I couldn't put it down and I'll definitely look out for more by this author.
Falling in love with your childhood best friend is never easy. However, it's more complicated when he's already in love with you but then, you can't love him back anymore.
One summer vacation, Tate was ready to share a great news with his best friend, Callie. The news he had for her was supposed to make Callie very happy, however, the opposite happened. Tate had no idea that in that summer, his heart would be shattered to pieces.
Now seven years had passed, Callie's back in Idaho. After breaking his heart, is she ready to see Tate again?
Can I first say that for a debut novel, CJ McKella did a really awesome job here? I have read a lot of second chance romance novels, and this could actually be compared to the ones written by best selling authors.
McKella has made a story filled with emotions that I am sure will make you tear up. The author made sure that this book won't be light and easy for her readers. Rekindled will definitely have your emotions scattered everywhere.
The hero and heroine were well written. They're flawed because of what life threw at them, but you'll surely love Callie, Tate and the other characters.
Rekindled is a debut novel from the author, so I believe she will still be able to write better and more amazing plots and characters in the future. This is a very awesome start, CJ McKella, and I'm really excited for the next stories you release!
OMG what a truly fantastic debut novel by CJ McKella!!
My heart ached, hurt, wept & laughed with each page of this love story. It is so beautifully written, it grabbed me from the very start & turned into the kind of book I couldn't put down until I knew how the story ended.
Tate & Callie were best friends since they were young. Inseparable in every way. There wasn't a single thing they didn't know about each other, a single dream they didn't share about life, love & their future. Until the day it all changed, the day Callie broke Tates heart forever & walked away. 7 years later, they are thrown back together, finding themselves hurt, angry & full of questions.
Callie left for reasons only known to her. She has loved Tate forever & seeing him once again floods her soul with emotions she doesn't know how to handle. She knows how hurt he is, she just doesn't know if he can forgive her. If he can love her.
Tate thought life would never be the same. He lost the love of his life & his best friend. It took him 7 long years to find any kind of happiness & isn't ready to face Callie when she arrives back in town. So many questions & thoughts engulf him. He wants her, he just doesn't know if his heart can take it. If he will ever be good enough.
Hot, smouldering, raw, passionate. This book truly did burn my soul. I love Callie & freaking adore Tate. I cant wait to read more by this fantastic new author

I think that when you choose to read a book from an author who is either new or whose previous work is unfamiliar to you, it's a risk of sorts. I am happy to report that the "risk" I took with Rekindled paid off in spades. Not only did I get a well-written and heartfelt story of a first love being one's last and true love, but I also met two main characters who were honest--albeit a few years later--about their flaws and mistakes and yet strove to make amends and make the most of their situation, acknowledging the past but choosing to focus on the present in hopes of having a chance at a future together. They also happen to be surrounded with a great group of family and friends, and I hope that C.J. McKella considers (or maybe she already has!) making a series, because I certainly wouldn't mind reading about Caleb Winters and the Tate's friends and fellow smoke jumpers, especially if their stories are as good as Tate's. If you're in the market for a tale about love, friendship, forgiveness, and second chances, check out Rekindled. Five stars! ♥
This is one of those books that hits you hard with the feels. From the first pages you can feel the chemistry that Tate and Callie have. It's honestly one of those magical ones that every girl dreams of but things didn't work out the way that they wanted. Reasons behind the choices Callie made broke my heart. She tries to be so strong but she is just as fragile as she was the day she left Tate. Tate is bitter and honestly I cannot blame him. His heart was shattered. But those embers of their relationship makes it so they cannot keep away from each other no matter how hard they tried. Rekindled is honestly a perfect title for this story. This is the first book by McKella that I have ever read and it really won't be the last. While there were a couple things that I felt were a touch rushed, the overall flow of the story and character build was amazing and kept you on your toes. This book has a perfect balance of romance yet with some intrigue, drama and angst. I would highly recommend this read to anyone who loves a second chance romance!
Rekindled is a second chance love story. I felt tons of emotions reading this book. It was touching and sad, while still being heartwarming.
Callie and Tate have been best friends since they were 7. It isn’t until they were older that Tate realizes he is in love with Callie, but while Callie had been in love with Tate for some time, she chose to be with another man. Tate is beyond furious with Callie’s decision and tells her that they are no longer friends. Callie leaves not speaking to Tate for 7 years. Then circumstances beyond Callie’s control cause her to return to the place where she left her heart.
C.J. McKella has written a great story. I love Tate. He’s an amazing man and he has the biggest heart. Callie is a great woman and would do anything for her family. These two characters have amazing chemistry and love for one another. I was a little confused at the end. There were some parts of the story that I felt just dropped off and didn’t wrap up, otherwise this story is well written. I enjoyed the story and would highly recommend reading it.
This is my first book by CJ McKella, and man it's one hell of a book! It is so well written, it hooked me from the start. The book starts between Calle and Tate, two best friends with a bond that runs much deeper. When Tate confesses his true feelings he's left heart broken and hurt- but he doesn't know the whole story. When the story moves to present day their paths cross again. Tate is a sexy, alpha firefighter who is engaged to another woman. Callie returns home emotionally beaten down, with a son to support. As the story unfolds the heat that simmers between Callie and Tate turns into a roaring inferno. Is Callie free from her past relationship from hell? Can Tate win Callie's heart, and keep her and her son safe? This is a heart warming story of first love that indures time and heart break. This is well written! I HIGHLY recommend it. It's truly fabulous!
This was a wonderful stand alone. The author wrote beautifully and keeps you enthralled. It has smoking hot firemen who are smoke jumpers. The knowledge of what they do was interesting and in great detail. A story about young summer love that morphs into a lifelong love even when they don't keep in contact. They both go through so much together and apart, that it's beautiful when things start working out for them. But with life there's always twists and turns. This was a smoking hot book and I loved the characters. This was a believable story with real life issues. Can't wait to see more from this author
I'm speechless and breathless from this book. It's a second chance at love and oh so much more! We start off with two kids who practically grew up with each other. They have an unbelievably beautiful connection yet when one professes their love it isn't quite returned but there are reasons for that. Tate becomes a smoking hot fireman. He's an Alpha for sure but so gentle and loving. His friend and love interest, Callie is tormented from experiences she endured while away. When they reconnect the chemistry is even hotter but Callie isn't quite free as she once was and together they work through problems. It's a beautiful love story with lots of twists and turns.
This book w as amazing. I offered to read this book but was not sure if it was going my to be what I liked. Once I started to read it, I could not put it down. I read it in less than 24 hours.
There were very strong characters, love wins at the end, and you get a non cliff hanger. The book has a lot of detail. She flashed back from early years to current. You learn a lot about the characters past and hope it wins in the present. There is a lot of history with the characters and CJ intertwined it very good.
There really was not anything that I disliked about the book. Plot was great. I will read another one of her books.
Rekindled is a heartbreaker in more ways than one. Life got in the way of Tate and Callie. Seven long, painful years later they reconnect, but will they rekindle the friendship they once had? This is a book that you won’t go to sleep until you’re finished. It’s that good! *I was gifted a copy by photographer, Cassy Roop / Pink Ink Designs*
Falling in love with your best friend is never easy. Tate loves Callie since he first met her. Callie fell in love with Tate. Callie couldn't love him when he told her he loves her. It's a long time till they meet up again. I just couldn't put this book down cause I needed to find out how it ended.
I would like to give the book and author 0 stars, but that's impossible. Rekindled is very similar to Rekindle by Morgan Nicole which was released over a year ago. I thought the blurb I read was familiar and now I know why.
