Amei!

Because I may may may may have the chance to screenwrite a thing, I read this screenplay instead of watching the film again, because I chanced upon this article:
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016...

No other reason. I remember thinking this was a cool film as a teenager. Now I'd be like '?'

Reading screenplays is cool though! There are a lot of films in my head. I'm'a keep doing it.

4. UNA VEZ YO TAMBIÉN ME OBSESIONÉ CON COSAS ASÍ COMO EL VIAJE EN EL TIEMPO Y EL FIN DEL MUNDO COMO DONNIE

This edition gathers Richard Kelly's interview, the official script of the movie and the fictional book "The Philosophy Of Time Travel" by Roberta Sparrow.
If you don't know Donnie Darko, I recommend to watch the original movie from 2001, then read this book. It will guide you to a relevant point of view and give you a important range of new details about the story.
So after finishing the book, watch he movie again!

And for extra information, there's a movie called "S. Darko" (2009) that tells the

The interview with Richard Kelly was interesting to read. While I read the script I found myself paying more attention compared to when I watch the film. As a result of this, some questions that I had from watching the film cleared up. I now understand why some events happened the way they did. The Philosophy of Time Travel pictures, towards the end of the book, were interesting and helpful.

I read the Donnie Darko book because of a paper I had to write about the movie and it's meaning. The interview with Richard Kelly really helped me to understand his intuitions in doing the movie and thought process in scripting it. The philosophy of time travel really helped me understanding the storyline.
Gavin Boone
This little gem taught me how to write screenplays.
I'm also a huge fan of Donnie Darko- so it was fun to see Roberta Sparrow's Philosophy of Time Travel.

Donnie Darko is probably my favorite movie ever it's a wonderful book, that completes the movie and explain it a little bit. And I thought this book would have more depth on time travel and possibly what the story is about in the movie, but similar to the movie it holds most of the secrets and ambiguity which is what probably makes this movie come alive. There were lots of pictures and the original script has a number of parts that aren't in the movie or the deleted scenes. Definitely worth buyi ...more

One of my favourite films of all time, the book was obviously a shameless tie-in, and thus a bit thin on content. I've never really seen the point of reading a screenplay, unless you're an actor or a film studies student, and still don't; it doesn't seem to add much to my experience of watching the film. The excerpts from The Philosophy of Time Travel, however, were lots of fun. And, while I can't remember what Jake Gyllenhaal actually said in his foreword, I remember that it made me love him th ...more

As someone who loved the movie, this book gave me a fan(-fic)tastic experience. It contains an interview with Richard Kelly (writer/director of Donnie Darko), the entire screenplay, and excerpts from The Philosophy of Time Travel.

There's a certain experience from reading the screenplay of a movie you like, and that experience is hard to explain. It was a pleasure.
Chris Moujaes
I loved the Donnie Darko movie, and this book (which is primarily the script) was a little disappointing. The quality of the book itself was sketchy, though I REALLY enjoyed being able to see the Theory of Time Travel pages that are alluded to in the movie.

This book is the final movie's script, the one used in the Director's Cut of "Donnie Darko". It's pretty interesting and easy to read, and by reading it I could remember the movie's story... and now I must watch it again!

This is basically just the shooting script for the film (which includes scenes deleted from the original theatrical release and restored for the awful "director's cut") with a fairly lengthy interview with Richard Kelly acting as a preface to the script. The most interesting part of the interview is Kelly's description of his upbringing, on which he clearly based much of "The Box." Also, he mentions his "frat brothers" at one point, which explains in two words why his production company made the ...more

The book contains an introduction by Jake Gyllenhaal (nicely and honestly written), an interview with Richard Kelly (awesomely long and very informative and interesting!!!), the script (of course, as good as I remembered it from the movie - though it gave me some more input and understanding than I previously had), pages from "The Philosophy of Time Travel", and images and sketches from the film.
It is a real treat for fans of the movie itself, Richard Kelly and movie-making in general!

Kind of misleading, but it's a fascinating look into the making of a brilliant movie. It includes an interview with Richard Kelly and a version of the script that is somewhat different from the theatrical cut and sheds more light on certain themes/characters. Definitely worth a read for any fan of the movie.
Derek Baldwin
Basically the shooting script for the film, plus extracts from The Philosophy Of Time Travel, and an interview with writer-director Richard Kelly. Interesting and (where the interview is concerned) occasionally illuminating: Donnie Darko is an outstanding film, this is not an outstanding book.
