With over 3,600 illustrations and pages of information, Camping & Wilderness Survival provides a wealth of information on how to travel, make a camp, understand your environment, and choose equipment. A book no survivor should be without!
The title claims that this is the ultimate outdoors book, and you know, it is pretty accurate. This book has everything...and I mean everything, if you ever wanted to know how to build a traditional Inuit cold weather shelter, how to be on the lookout for avalanches, how to choose proper foot gear, how to make a bookbag out of a pair of pants, how to avoid a volcanic eruption...really, this massive book has everything. I occasionally find myself just opening to a random page and reading for a while, but for the most part it is more of an encyclopedic style book. I certainly recommend it for anyone who has an interest in nature survival, or just nature in general.
The most informative, enthralling compilation of camping and survival tips and hints, from the "list of lists" to edible and poisonous plants and animals, this book has it all! It includes quality AND quantity. Rather than 1 way to start a fire without matches, this book includes pages of different approaches to the matter. I recommend it to anyone, on a recent winter camping trip even, I used a diagram of a snow-cave as a model for mine, it worked wonderfully! A very useful book!
I probably should have read a more current edition as this one seemed dated with some material. However, still a relevant read for those interested in wilderness survival (all terrains). Nothing earth shattering for the serious student/ practitioner of survival such as wilderness survival instructors.
ok this is the second adition and they don't show the first one. The first one is the one I have read. If you like the outdoors this is the collection to get. My daughter uses are book for reference when out in the wild.
1080 busy and slightly hard to read pages. However, this book is a must have for outdoor enthusiasts, it has a lot of very informative camping and survival tips. I would use this book for sporadic reading and as a book of reference, like encyclopedias.
