I would like to thank Net Galley, Bookouture, and Ms. Marcie Steele for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Gee, I just love Mel Sherratt, whether she is writing as Mel Sherratt or Marcie Steele. This versatile British author (from suspenseful grit-lit as Mel to substantial chick-lit as Marcie) can take care of all my reading moods. Her latest release, The Second Chance Shoe Shop, has just fulfilled my need for a fun and heartwarming read after finishing off

I have been late coming to the table with this one.
I have been reading this authors other books avidly for ages now and loving them, so the change around from her thrillers to this type of book I was wondering if I would be seeing a different side to the author who I loved and become disappointed.

I hate to say, I waited, I didn't want to be one of the first to read it.

But you know what? I loved it, I adored it, it was a refreshing read, an everyday life sort of down to earth type of read that

Marcie Steele has outdone herself this time. The Second Chance Shoe Shop is a gorgeous read. Packed with likeable, relatable characters that I defy anyone not to identify with someone in this book.

The Second Chance Shoe Shop focuses on Riley Flynn, her struggle to find love and her attempts to reinvent Chandler’s shoe shop as a trendy fashionable shop. At every corner, the current owner is there to thwart her ideas and bring her back to earth with a bump.

As well as Riley, there is a fabulous ens
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This has been a wonderful feel good book I wasn't able to put down. Right from the beginning I felt at home with the book and had a feeling this was going to be great read.

I loved the setting around the shoe shop and the characters were very likeable as well. The friendship between Riley, Dan and Sadie felt very deep and honest. I also enjoyed the individual stories of the three. I was laughing, loving and suffering

Well I was a bit worried when I got this book to read and review as I am a huge fan of this author's work when she writes as Mel Sherratt. Her DS Allie Shenton series is one of my favourites for its dark and gritty scenes of city life. But after reading so many crime books recently I decided I needed a break, something lighter, and I really couldn't have chosen a better book to do that with! This book is the equivalent of a gossip with your friends whilst having coffee and cupcakes! In fact it's ...more

Riley , Sadie and Dan all work in Chandler’s shoe shop. They are not just colleagues but also good friends, who enjoy working together at the same place. Suzanne is in charge of the shop and as she needs the sales to increase, so she makes her employees work more, but isn’t interested in any changes that Riley is suggesting to make it happen. Riley is the manager of the shop and she still decides to make some changes to bring more customers in to the shop. The changes in shop was the beginning o ...more

This is one of those books that you know you're going to love just from the cover alone and i couldn't put it down when i started reading it as what was inside lived up to expectations!

Riley is reeling from rejection and seeks refuge in the little world that is Chandlers' shoe shop where she is the manager, and works alongside her best friends Daniel and Sadie. They are all as thick as thieves and that friendship can't

It's been quite a long time since I've read anything that can be billed as chick lit, which I usually quite enjoy. So, taking a break from my usual crime fix and knowing that Marcie Steele is aka crime fiction writer, Mel Sherratt, an author I very much enjoy; well, I just had to go there!!

And I'm really glad that I did. This is essentially a charming tale of loves lost, bereavement and friendship. Told from three different viewpoints in a fictional town it centres around a shoe shop in a busy h

Riley Flynn is the manager of a failing shoe shop whose owners are out of touch with the type of stock the modern buyer wants. Riley is being asked to do the impossible; work with what she has and make a profit. So it's a good job she's got such a great group of friends to help her in this impossible task. But each of them has problems with their lives that they need to resolve. Will a second chance of romance work for all them?

This is was the second book I read from Marcie Steele and once again I really really enjoyed the story and her writing style! I cannot wait for her next book to be published! I really enjoyed reading about the life of Riley and her friends and co-workers at the shoeshop, Sadie and Dan. They are all heartbroken for different reasons and try their best to go on with life. The shop they are working for is not going so well and the boss of the shop would like to close it but before doing so, she wou ...more

I have to say that I would prefer to give this 3-1/2 stars. I enjoyed the book, but some of the angst was a little over the top (and constant) for me. First, let me say that I am not a shoe person, but I am a book person and it doesn't take much to transition one from the other. The story was fun to a degree and Riley, the main character, was perfectly written. Her story was great. The plot was realistic and funny at times!

This is a well-written story with a solid plot. If you enjoy women's fiction and/or contemporary romance and found the characters sympathetic then I'm sure you'd love it. Unfortunately I failed to connect with any of the characters and so wasn't swept up in their trials, tribulations and triumphs. I also found some parts repetitive.

First of all, many thanks to Marcie ;-) Mel Sherratt and Bookouture for my ARC of The Second Chance Shoe Shop.
I make no secret of the fact that I am a massive fan of Mel's / Marcie's. I have genuinely loved everything she has written and I'm always very excited to read her new releases. I feel blessed to be able to read them prior to publication. I've been lucky enough to meet Mel a few times now and we chat fairly regularly via email, Facebook, Twitter etc. I like to think we are friends :-)

Yet again Marcie Steele has written a wonderful story with characters who grab you by the heart and touches your soul.

The Second Chance Shoe Shop very much represented to me the corporate world of retail and the importance of figures and sales and sadly the lack of importance of the staff that usually hold it all together and give their everything into it.

Riley is a character that is easy to relate to, she’s a hard worker that goes above and beyond what she really needs to do in her job yet her

Charming. It's the 1st word that comes to mind. This book was heartwarming, it was feel good. It was charming.

Their lives are not perfect, with cheating/married boyfriends, deaths, slight family drama, somewhat smarmy shoe salesmen, owners who think they can compete with the major retailers (while avoiding stocking the latest trends) and all of this you learn in the first few chapters.

But, through it all, there is an underlying charm. A joy in hanging out with Riley as she moves on with her life

The Second Chance Shoe Shop was an enjoyable read.

There was an interesting mix of characters, and I loved the whole focus on Twitter (even though I still can’t fully work out how to use Twitter myself). Although I’ve not entered the competition, I did find it fun that there is currently a real life shoe related competition happening on Twitter in connection with this book. #shoelove

This story was perhaps a little too light for me, although some of that may just be because of the emotional book

What a delightful read this was! Though fiction, the three primary characters -- Riley, Sadie, and Dan, all in their 30's -- captured the spirit of real people and the real stuff of life. Their layers helped me to know and understand them. Add their other friends into the mix, and I felt like I was in a warm and safe place with people who sincerely cared for each other. I loved the dialogue and banter between them.

Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Marcie Steele for the early copy.
Every town, no matter where you live has a shoe shop like Chandlers.
An old fashioned looking shop with expensive old fashioned shoes.
Chandlers was that shop, but after a refit was looking more modern.
The shoes were still a bit old fashioned though.
Riley Flynn is the manager of Chandlers. She has worked there for years and has a real loyalty to the place. Dan and Sadie work there too, and the three of them are firm friends.

This is my second book by Marcie Steele which once again I absolutely loved. I love how adaptable Mel/Marcie is with her books being a crime writer to a heart warming pull at your heartstrings story. Both totally opposite genres but never she fails to disappoint.

This story takes us to the town of Hedworth where we meet Sadie and Riley who work at Chandler's shoe shop. Sadie is going through an emotional time with the anniversary of her husband's death approach. Then Riley is having a hard time

I have to admit being drawn to this book just by the words "shoe shop" in the title! It didn't disappoint and I was transported to a lovely place called Hedworth in which the shoe shop sits.I really like a girl who makes good too, and this is what Riley Flynn sets out to do with her campaign to save the shoe shop from closure.

One of things a lot of writers do nowadays is throw in a reference to Twitter or some other social media platform - I presume to keep it relevant in today's world. However,

Well Marcie Steele has done it again. This is now the 3rd book I have read by this author and just like the other two books, I loved this one.
Right from early on, you just know that you are slowly being dragged into the story. It's almost like Hedworth is the town where you live, that you know Riley, Sadie and Dan because you've been in the shop a million times. It really does make you believe.
I just loved the way the story went. It's a real feel good book. Friendship, love, romance but not all

The Second Chance Shoe Shop focusses on Riley Flynn and her struggle to find love. She is also determined to revitalise Chandler's shoe shop, bring in fresh stock that's fashionable and affordable but despite her best efforts, shop owner Suzanne is unconvinced. Suzanne then challenges her employees with a competition to attract more sales, and Riley sees this as her chance.

From the very beginning Riley is a wonderful character, one that most readers will appreciate and admire. Sadie and Dan are

After books, shoes are my most favourite thing to buy or window shop a book by the brilliant Mel Sherratt...I mean Marcie Steele about a shoe shop ticked two massive boxes for me.

10/15 years ago, I would devour chick lit like it was going out of fashion but now I don't read it so much. So I'm very fussy about anything that is non-crime/thriller. It has to be well written and The Second Chance Shoe Shop is just that. It's not your typical chick lit by far. Don't get me wrong, it tugs at

In this return to the fictional town of Hedsworth we move away from the indoor market, up the high street to Chandlers, the local shoe shop with its staff of three – Dan, Sadie and manager Riley. Again, it is the story about the power of true friendship. Dan was dumped a year ago and is desperately looking for love and seems to be failing. Sadie is still mourning the recent death of her husband and Riley is recovering from a disastrous relationship. When their jobs are put on the line they have ...more

Oh this was a fun read! This was the life of Riley, with all its twists and turns, and her friends as well.

I like to read a decent chick lit inbetween the murder mysteries which I like to devour on a regular basis and this book was the perfect one to read.

Its a thoroughly modern book, with Twitter, Facebook and flash mobs being mentioned and I found myself relating to all the characters quite well. I really wanted to know what was going to happen next to all of them and to me, that is the mark

I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC for my honest review.

As I turned the figurative pages of my e-reader, I realized that I’d read only a hundred pages. I was barely knee deep into the heart-pounding story and I already had that feeling that this was one I had to read. When it comes to fiction, I look for books that involve me completely —whether it’s because of the beautiful writing, the power of the story, or the characters, and in a perfect book it’s all three.
