Max Brand was an excellent storyteller. This one is told from the point of view of Baldy, an honest man who becomes a friend of a notorious outlaw called The Duster. Duster comes to the town of Christmas, supposedly to bury a friend and to go straight. But there's much more to the story. Still, the Duster makes friends and it turns out his intentions to go straight are honorable. Very good story, although there's a lot of telling and not as much showing. But the characters are wonderful and it held my interest.
