In the greater world of books, this book would probably rate 3 stars, but in the world of the sparse offerings of biographies for younger readers, it rates 4 stars. Claire Nemes has created an interesting story of Edison's life while at the same time providing the biographical information. The fact that she begins his life story with him as a young man will encourage young readers. I wish she and Troll Associates had thought to include a informational prologue on his life and accomplishments, and additional suggested resources, which is really necessary for all biographies. While the illustrations by John Himmelman are bright and colorful, the book would have been better served with a few actual photographs. Himmelman did an excellent job with his illustration for the telegraph which just may interest a few of the nerds. In summary sometimes your book stands out from the crowd only because the others are so bad as is the case of biographies for young readers.
