“I have returned to an evolved earth. A place I no longer recognize. A self I no longer recognize. My name is Jesca Sera. My reality has been pierced and it is with absolute certainty that nothing will ever be the same in our world again. One thing is certain. I hold the blueprint of our salvation.” ~ Jesca
With Jesca’s return from beyond the veil with Xander, Nate, and Ezra, they are ushered into our evolved world having advanced years since their departure. The earth’s remaining populous that survived the galactic intersection, the following climatic shifts, and the rigorous genetic manipulation has been stunted by the very beings Jesca and the others encountered beyond the veil. Humankind is being invaded, occupied, and destroyed under their invisible reign. The beings intent? To possess our world and stop Jesca and the other guardians from fulfilling the legacy that could save us all. We are left to hit the ground running upon their return as Jesca brings home new found knowledge of her ancient bloodline and the supernal legacy that has linked her family, the guardians, and the two men she has been torn between throughout her journey. With only Jesca’s visions of what this ancient legacy holds for them, the guardians are depending on the divining glimpses of her ancestry to put them on the path leading to salvation. The question is, will the stakes be too high and the risk to great for Jesca and the guardians to fulfill their destiny?

I like an original story. I like any story that entertains & captivates me. That is exactly what the Piercing the Fold series is – unique, engaging & entertaining. It has everything, adventure, parallel universes, apocalypse, telepathy, aliens, kick ass heroine and romance!
This entire series is action packed and full of spiritual inspiration as well as fringe science. Honestly, I love science. I watch tons of science tv programming like The Cosmos & Fringe. I really enjoy fantasy & paranormal novels and really could be called a geek for most of my numerous obsessions. However, I do believe you do not have to be as into as I am to enjoy and consume this story! Venessa explains everything you would need to know within the context of the book and all while the main characters are learning about most of the happenings on the fly, right along you as the reader.
The series has its ebbs & flows. Book one is very heady, trying to get the world & character development set. But don’t get me wrong totally important, but that just means book 2 is full of action and adventure. Book 3 gets more emotional and the growth of the characters is expansive. There is plenty of action of course, but it’s not as jammed packed as book 4! See, ebb & flow. It totally works as each book has little ups and downs but when you are thinking about the series as a whole you will see the pattern emerge more broadly as well.
Let’s talk characters – Jesca, strong-willed, spirited and full of kick-ass! a female sci-fi fantasy lead – so fantastic! She is the destiny and everyone wants to protect her but she’s the feisty one! She also understands that her actions can change everything and how important her decisions are even though she still flies at the seat of her pants for most decisions!
Xander & Nate – I was a Nate girl for a long time, but book 4 really swayed me into Xander’s camp. He is just so much more mature and understands what Jesca is going through. He truly believes she loves them both but doesn’t want to get too close or attached to either of them, because in this new world…no one is safe. Nate is sweet and I was routing for him but Xander stole my devotion. This love triangle isn’t typical. It doesn’t make me want to punch the girl involved in the face (too harsh?), instead I feel for Jes and her tough time coming to grips with whether her feelings are real or manufactured links to these two gorgeous cousins. Nate and Xander become so close in the final book that it is hard for me to chose, but just like Jesca, sometimes the choice isn’t ours after all.
Ezra is a witty and sympathetic father. He is a perfect balance for Jesca’s hotheadedness, as he is much more calculated and balanced. He is the only one that can truly get through to Jes and Jes respects all of his decisions. He is pure wisdom even though he has been kept in the dark about most of the happenings that is the legacy at hand. The ones ‘in the know’ mostly had good intentions too, and just like everyone else, they are finding out more and more as the events progress. It affirms their theories or helps them understand the mistakes and failures.
There is a bigger cast of characters all whom are important and most are realizing they are even more involved than they may have previously understood. The Guardians have been passing down their knowledge for centuries and have been training their children to prepare for the legacy that they finally bear witness to and work together to try save the world!
The momentum of each book builds and builds with twists, turns and the crazy course of events that eventually all fall into place for the dramatic ending of the series. This entire series was a journey I am so glad I embarked upon. The ending is surprising but ultimately satisfying. Hope you chose to take this journey too!
*I was given an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of book 4 from the author in exchange for my honest review, I am never paid for my reviews.
Epic Series Finale - Sad to See it Go! This is the fourth and final book in The Copula Chronicles and the series needs to be read in order beginning with Origin, then Descend, followed by Ascend leading up to this book. This entire series has been phenomenal, with each installment getting better and better. The author has done such a terrific job with this series. I am a fan for life. The characters of this series are so impressive, masterfully created and so totally real. I so much enjoyed my journey with all of them and feel that I really know them. The entire series has been an epic journey with action, adventure, unforeseen twists, and a love story. This series finale, while I'm sad to see it go, provides a totally satisfying ending. I just couldn't turn the pages fast enough to get there though. I absolutely recommend this book, this entire series if you love an awesome story. I will definitely be watching out for more from this super talented author. I was generously given a complimentary advanced readers copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
When I started this series I wasn't sure if it was something that would be of interest since it wasn't the type of book I normally read. I continued on, at first because once I start I can't stop unless I finish it completely. Before long I couldn't stop because I was so totally wrapped up in the story that I was captivated. This series is amazing. Remarkably written, beautifully told and one of the best I've read. Without spoiling anything the ending was phenomenal! The relationships between the characters, Jesca, Ezra, Nate and Xander was wonderful as well as the other "guardians". These books are exceptional in every way!! I received a free copy for my honest review.
*received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*
NNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so obvious who she was going to choose but still I chose who I chose and I chose wrong. T____T But that god for that epilogue or I'd be a very sad puppy. This was an intense read, a great way to end the chronicles and Jesca's story. I mean what a journey this way! Usually I go for faeries and the mainstream magic but this really held my attention. I enjoyed the whole series with the way it engaged my mind into entertaining certain theories and perspectives. Any book that encourages you to think different things is a good book in my mind.
Venessa Kimball has outdone herself! Transcending the Legacy continues the story of Piercing the Fold and brings it to an exciting climax and a bittersweet end. I was on the edge of my seat and engrossed in the story! It is a wonderful story with many twists and turns! Loved it!
I think I liked this book the best of the four books. The writing is vastly improved and the pace is fast. The characters have evolved a lot. The book starts out right after the last one with Jesca no longer linked to either Nate or Xander. A good action packed conclusion to the series. 4 stars.
What an absolute corker of an ending!! Oh Vanessa, you had me crying girl.
I wish I was just starting the series again, if you have not read any of it yet because you are checking out the review, well then you can stop now because I confirm what I hope those that had reviewed before me have said and tell you this is one action packed book, if you are of the nervous nail biting when stressed affliction, please think about protecting them nails.
Jesca and co return from beyond the veil a year after leaving and were not prepared for what they encountered, it is touch and go there for a while wondering if the effects of the climate changes will ave a detrimental effect or not and add to that the injury Ezra sustained and Nate had drained his life force. They were certainly not prepared to meet the beings that have come from beyond the veil.
Jesca is to complete the legacy in order to save earth and those that have survived the climate changes and managed to hide well from the Dwellers (like the logic behind the name). Ezra is at Jesca's side keeping her safe along with the other guardians from previous books, Nate and Zander appear to be hiding something from Jesca and she is determined to find out what.
The characters in the whole of the series including this new have been fantastically written, you can picture them right in front of you or in my case you will become so engrossed you duck when that bird dives. Some of the scenes I would rather not have visited lol but hey they just added to the impact from the story.
You need to be sure to read the books in the correct order to be sure to get the right pull from the stories: Origin, Descend, Ascend and of course Legacy.
I received copies of the series in exchange for my honest review.
I look forward to reading more of your work Vanessa.
Talk about how to leave you guessing that is exactly what happened in Transcending the Legacy for me. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen BAM guess again. Out of the four books I think this one is the one that leaves me the most breathless and heart sick. I cheered on Jesca and hoped with all that was in me that she would pull this off that her sacrifice would be enough. As she sets out with the rest of the guardians to save our world from total inhalation. I bank my trust in Jesca being able to pull it off. Jesca is not only trying to stop the world we know from being taken over by things that are beyond our comprehension she also is left with affairs of the heart Nate and Xander not a choice to be taken lightly. Both men have grown in ways I never dreamed. As Jesca's relationship with each one grows so does the bond of friendship between both of these guys. As this story pulls to an end I am left with a peaceful sort of feeling that is almost to difficult to describe. I decide as the last page is read that I have embarked on a journey of time and space that was unlike any I have ever read. Venessa Kimball totally nailed this series! She has not only taken my mind and filled it with wonder and amazement but, also has shown me that maybe there is still some good worth fighting for in our own realm. I encourage anyone who is reading this to pick up this series and let it take you on it's roller coaster ride. You maybe amazed by what you learn.
Wow...this is an emotional ride of a book. By now we are fully invested in all the characters in the series and we have our goodies and baddies and are firmly routing for our heroes and heroines. However a year has past since the last book and Earth has not come out of it well with the absence of Jesca and her loved ones. Earth is taken over by aliens and it is up to Jesca and her fellow Guardians to save humans and Earth as they knew it. With this book you are going to struggle with some of the decisions made. Let's be honest....by now you have an idea of where you want this series to go and are hoping it goes your way....to see if it does you need to read it but be prepared! We are firmly enraptured in the plot and feel part of the Guardian team and Vanessa's ability to do that has us as a reader fully feeling the intense emotions and difficult decisions Jesca faces. An emotional ending to a powerful and though provoking series. Did it go the way i wanted it to.....probably not but that certainly doesn't mean that's a bad thing....just that Vanessa knew where she wanted this all to pan out and as such has created a series finale that wraps up the series nicely if not a bit sadly. This series has made me laugh, cry, cheer and boo.....it's made me think and wonder 'what if???' and for me that's the sign of a great author! A series definitely not to be missed.....stick with it.....you will not be disappointed! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
I just finished this book, and I'm a little shell-shocked. As I got closer and closer to the end, it wasn't going how I thought it would so I was reading faster and faster, since I "knew" what had to happen in such a short amount of space, but still. I'm blown away.
I don't want to give spoilers away, and I'll try to keep this as vague as possible. As I was reading this story, the vivid descriptions had it playing out like a movie in my mind. I pictured the facilities they stayed at, what the Dwellers looked like, and what the legacy ceremony looked like. The story sucked you in, and left you feeling like you were part of the Guardians, running along beside them. I put off reading this book, because I didn't want the story to end. I didn't want to know, and yet, I needed to know. There were several scenes of dialogue, followed by quick action scenes where things went from bad, to worse, to fantastic, to even worse, to calm, to heart-pounding, and then started all over.
The ending result didn't go the way I thought it would, but I'm happy with it. I would love a little more to the epilogue to tell me more, but it's satisfying.
I recommend this story, and the author. I've enjoyed her story Dismantling Evan, and hope to read more by this descriptive author that makes you feel like you're part of the story.
After failing to seal the veil on their way back from that hellish world, Jesca, Nate, Ezra, Xander and Sebastian all return a year later to a very different Earth. One which humans cannot survive without a Copula implanted in their neck to help cope with the changing levels of elements. Unfortunately, this means there are no more linked guardians and their abilities have disappeared for a time. The ability to read each other’s’ thoughts and the ensuing emotional tension that created is gone from this novel. With it, and with Jesca’s decision to avoid Nate and Xander, the emotional tension and character development disappears as well. In addition, while their journey to fulfill Jesca’s legacy, there are several unpredictable road blocks, none serve to further the plot or make the ending any less predictable. There were so many hints at how the story would end starting in Ascend that it was a big letdown. The suspense wasn’t there the same as in the other novels. The epilogue I found more emotional and intriguing than the rest of the book. After reading the first three novels, I wanted to find out how the story ended. However, with no character development and the only emotional interactions between Jesca and a six year old girl, I found this novel disappointing.
What an epic conclusion to this series… With each addition to this series, I find myself increasingly invested in the characters and their struggles, and this final book was no exception. With a year having passed since the Guardians launched themselves through the wormhole to save Ezra and Nate, the Earth is not the same place that they left and is now populated by Dwellers, who are outright creepy. Once again, I found myself starting off frustrated with Jesca’s notion that that she needed to fight the enemy in isolation, even as she was surrounded by a team of people as invested as she was, but there was a marked development in her character. I loved Jesca’s growth in this installment, she seems to have found the strength to channel her stubbornness as she wrestles with the weight of the legacy left by her ancestors. The entire last quarter of this book knocked the wind out of me as the Guardians took hit after hit, what an incredibly epic finale to wrap up the chronicles.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What an ending. I feel like I have been through it all with this series and it's characters. There has been love, hate, redemption, and sacrifice. A year has passed without Jesca and her team and a lot has changed on earth. It has been taken over by dwellers and the climate is toxic to most people. Jesca and her team of guardians must make their way to the final destination and fulfill the prophecy. The way the past and present is woven seamlessly together in this series but this book in particular is astounding. The visions that the guardians are experiencing and the information that comes out of them are the main catalyst for the book. I was so invested in this story and the characters at this point that there was no way I was putting the book down until I read the last page and Once I did I was so glad that I had stuck with it and read the whole series. I was surprised by the ending but at the same time I felt it coming. The thoughts and feelings that this book was able to9 draw from me was (to me) the make of a great author. I think that this is a series that will stick with me and definitely make it onto my re-read list.
Venessa writes in a way that just makes you want to read all the way through in one sitting. This is an absolutely fabulous book in a wonderful series. Jesca Gershom Kahn goes through hell and back as she tries to fulfill her legacy. Along the way she finds that her legacy has more twists and turns in it than even she realizes.
Venessa allows you into the mind of Jesca and how hard this is on her. More than once in this book does Jesca's adventure pull hard on your heart strings. There were a few parts that seemed slower than others, but it helps the reader get the gist of the story in the end. Jesca's ending is NOT what you would expect from reading most of the book. Nor did Jesca expect this as well.
I cannot wait for the next book that Venessa has up her sleeve. I love her work. She is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors.
In the conclusion to the Copula Chronicles, Ms. Kimball has continued to write an interesting and thought provoking story. When Jesca and the other Guardians return to Earth, they find it a very different place. It is up to Jesca and her fellow Guardians to save Earth.
The characters continue to be interesting and developed. Jesca continues to take on burdens by herself but as the heroine that is likely expected. She also has the big destiny to finish.
A lot happens in this novel but it also doesn't feel like Ms. Kimball has rushed to tie everything together. Some may be unhappy with the conclusion to the romantic triangle, it is handled well.
Ms. Kimball has certainly written a great series that has been enjoyable to read.
NB: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A GREAT SERIES for any SCI-FI Fan!! I've enjoyed this series from the start, & have been patiently awaiting this finale. Kimball does a wonderful job of bringing us tons of scientific goodness that even the not-so-science-savvy can appreciate & understand. There is so much going on through this series as a whole that after reading all of the books I am still amazed. I now appreciate Kimball's attention to detail even more. Each and every book definitely surpassed the last. If you are in search of a new adventure check it out! My daughter, who happens to adore science is going to be reading this series this summer, & I'm sure she will love it too. http://jenisbookshelf.blogspot.com/20...
Let me start by saying I was never a fan of Sci-fi books until I was introduced to the Copula Chronicals. However, this is a very special series and it has had me hooked from the very beginning. Venessa's writing is so imaginative that you get so wrapped up in the characters, feel what they are feeling and experience what they are experiencing. You just can't help but be drawn into the characters' storyline. Legacy is by far the most intense of the four books because this is where you finally get the answers to the questions you've been asking yourself. Legacy was the perfect ending to a fantastic series. This is my favorite book of all four. I absolutely recommend purchasing and reading this book/series asap!
I received arcs of all 4 books in this series in exchange for a honest review. First of all i do not read scifi books. After reading the blurb for the first book,i knew i was interested in giving it a chance. The story revolves around scientific research evolving and alien type beings from a different dimension, trying to demolish earth as we know it. More importantly the characters stand out and are the ones who made me want to keep reading. Basically the books remind me of a cross between quantum leap and the host, with a love triangle and a doting father. There are cliffhangers, but each book picks the story right up. Thank you Venessa Kimball for reaffirming my view of scifi/ fantasy books. I will be posting this review for each book.
I read this entire series. I would recommend it. I would actually like to read more on the history or if possible the future of this story. I loved the way each book tied together and that before I started the series I was told right up front that all books are not necessarily Stand alone books. I truly hate cliff hangers but these weren't to bad. each booked did finish the part of the story but left me wanting to find out more. the last book tied it all up so I was not left sitting here thinking "but what next". and other than a few extra words that were not caught during editing, all 4 books are well written. I was given this series to read for an honest review and I will be c/p this review onto each book.
this is an ARC given in exchange for an honest re-view so what if you are chosen to sacrifice yourself or will it be someone you love . and what if you lose a few people you care about . what if it was their choice to save you . and can the world be saved . can everyone survive or will those who try to survive don;t how will humanity survive can a ritual save man kind or will it be forever changed . and can Jesca and her friends be happy or will there be a hole in their lives due to the sacrifices others made so they can live . find out by reading and buying or KU to find out it is somewhat sad but there is good things as well but to find out what they are well buy , then read and explore the endless possibilities .

After a brief time across the veil, Jesca & the others return to find a year has passed on Earth and events have taken a drastic turn for the worst. Jesca has to rise above it all & save the world but she doesn't have to do it alone! Humanity has dwindled but those that remain are willing to put their very lives on the line to save those they love and the world. The culmination of The Copula Chronicles comes to an outstanding end that will have you flipping pages almost faster than you can read just to see what happens next! A phenomenal series that can be read again and again!
Thank you once again Venessa Kimball for the honor of being an ARC reader!
The final book in the series Jesca has returned with Nate, Xander, Ezra and the others from across the veil but everything has changed, our world has been altered and they must have new Copulas implanted or they won't survive on our planet anymore. The new devices mean Jesca and Nate are no longer paired but her feeling are just as strong and the triangle continues wih them and Xander. The job of the guardians is now to close the connection to the other planet/realm and return the creatures who have invaded to save our world. Jesca learns that her legacy is to save us but will she be able to??? Amazing ending to a brilliant series
I couldn't way to finish this series as always I was on the edge of my seat. Jesca, Nate, Ezra, Xander, Ira and his brothers, Tessa and all the other guardians made me feel like I was in the story. one small sentence in the book that will keep you wondering...............The way they are scrutinizing each other silently, I know they are keeping something from us and it burns me up. You need to read this book to find out and you won't be disappointed. Copula Chronicles 4 story series by Venessa Kimball..... I got this book to post an honest opinion of it... It is excellent. Thank you Venessaa for letting me read this.
I received an ARC for an honest review.... this book is the last book of the series so you have to get them all!!! Recommended Read! Like ASAP!!!.... I loved it! At first I was like iffy about sci-fi and i struggled on the first book because i got lost with formulas and etc... well the science part. Obviously, i had trouble in science. Lol... well, anyways back to my review i was also iffy because I am more of a paranormal kinda gal but Venessa knew how to put it together aside from the twists and turns given and rollercoaster of emotions it had an excellent conclusion to the series. YOU DEFINITELY GOT TO READ IT!!
This, the 4th book of the series, culminating in everything that the other books have shown us. The team return to earth, and find they have been gone one earth year. The atmosphere has changed, causing those not implanted, to have virtually no hope of survival. Then there are the other beings that have come through the veil, and live like parasites, off the human hosts they ensnare. Jesca is said to be the salvation of the human race. I won't spoil a great story, with a few twists and turns. It is still great drama, right to the end. I have to advise that I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This fourth book was a spectacular end to the Copula Chronicles. You have action, love and intrigue all wrapped up into a wonderful sci-fi setting. Jesca and the rest of the Guardians must make it to their destination before the evil that is taking over Earth wins. Will they make it and save everyone or will they be to late? Will Jesca be able to decide if she wants to be with Xander or Nate or will Fate decide for her? I found this series to be wonderfully written and it kept me going. I will most definitely be reading more by Venessa Kimball in the future.
The Copula Chronicles is a retelling of the Piercing the Fold series. Venessa decided to rewrite them for a more mature audience. The story is the same and just as engaging and exciting. Legacy is the continuing story of Jesca Gershon Sera, a young woman, who has returned to Earth from another realm. However, it isn't the Earth she knew. She must adapt to the changes as she learns more about her ancestry and her destiny. She must make a sacrifice, but it may be too great. This is a great book for sci-fi fans as well as romance fans!
I am sad but not because the book was bad but because it was the last.. I was given this amazing adventurous series in exchange for an honest review but I won't lie I want more. This book is more of the one that brings everything together and I to perspective. New friends are made and paths picked. Choices made and hurt can't be controlled. You want to hug and be there for Jesca no matter how hard you try to remember this is just a story but it's so captivating that you feel like it can happen to you...what an amazing end but really Venessa reconsider coming back.. Pretty please lol...
This book is just as amazing as the rest of this series. I could not put it down. It's filled with amazing adventure and action with amazing guardians that fight off the dwellers and try save the world form them. I just love all the guardian their all amazing and unique. Now this book had me laughing, so yelling, and crying. I love a book that can make me feel so much differ things about it. The Piercing The Fold series is so a must read!!!!!
