The story is about a penguin that wanted to fly and tried everything, but he just could not fly. However, he fell in some water and realized he could fly under the water and enjoyed it.
The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly is an adorable book about a penguin who dreams of being able to fly. He tries everything he can think of to fly. He tries to make wings, he spins around, he makes a snow airplane and nothing works! He even ties himself to a balloon and once he thinks he has discovered a new way to fly, his idea bursts!
When penguin crashes into the sea he learns that he can do something that's even better than flying, he can swim!
As a library program director and former school librarian, I highly recommend reading this story to toddlers or young children to pair with learning facts about penguins. This story will help teach young children that even though penguins are birds, that they can't fly, but are extraordinary swimmers. I also recommend this story for simple line drawings and beautiful mixes of different hues of blues, whites and purples. It's a very attractive story.
This is an short and sweet story can also be important for teaching children to be themselves and be proud of the gifts they were given.
Genre – Fantasy, Fiction Grade Level – Kindergarten Completed – February 15th, 2019 Unique Feature – A penguin called Flip Flop has a dream to fly, but everything seems to be against him. He tries everything from a twirling hat to a snow plane, but nothing seems to work. Will Flip Flop ever be able to fly? A nice book to read with younger readers, and although it is fictional helps children learn more about penguins. Could serve as a useful book to read along with a mini lesson on penguin facts.
I love the colors, the way the paper feels, and the story itself. That little penguin is so adorable and once he found something that was similar to flying and he was able to do it well!
Genre: Fiction - Children's Picture Book I loved this book and actual read it twice in one sitting! I have had it for years, but have never taken the time to read it. I can't believe it took me this long.
I feel that this book not only relates to Kindergarten kids, but all the way up to adulthood. I think everyone on some level can relate to this book as they grow up and navigate through life. As a pre-service teacher I thought this book was awesome and described my teaching journey so far.
This is a very cute book with a great storyline. The Penguin wanted to fly and he tried hard to fly and he never was successful. So his friend polar bear was there to help him find something that he could do, swim. This is a great storyline about how to be a good friend and that we can't always do everything we want to do but we can find something that we are good at.
As you can guess from the book title, the penguin tries innumerous ways to fly before it successes. Use your imagination and think of ten ways to help a penguin flies.
A absurd yet rational ending. A good book to develop creativity and prediction skills. I read it for the ERS lesson.
A cute picture book about an adorable young penguin who tries everything he can to fly, despite fail after fail. Until one day, a failure facilitates finding his true calling: swimming! It's a great selection for helping children to see their true gifts.
