This children's story opens with -- say it with me now -- one small donkey! Our adorable donkey protagonist is grazing on a hill, enjoying some fine weather, when he spots two big, gorgeous horses with flowing manes coming his way. Donkey admires their strength and beauty and wishes he could claim the same qualities for himself. Alas, he finds himself of slight size and noticeable clumsiness. He also struggles with speed. But little does he know, HE has been chosen for a very important task and ...more

This story offers a sweet fictional look at Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and Jesus's birth. We first meet the small donkey without Joseph and Mary, and we're introduced to donkey wanting to be like the big, fast, sleek horses instead of his own donkey self. We don't actually see anyone excluding the donkey in these pages before Joseph calls for him, but this idea of poor self-esteem can be relatable.

I stumbled reading parts of this out loud at times. I feel like some of rhythm in thes

Though Halloween is a lot closer than Christmas, I'm more in the mood for the Yuletide season than I am for All Hallows Eve, which might explain why I'm once again reading another Christmas title.

One small donkey dreams of being big and important. But one small event is much bigger than a small donkey could have ever dreamed. When one small donkey plays a part in the first Christmas, he gets to be part of something that will change the whole world.

I love Christmas and I love Christmas stories, so I just had to review this book when I saw the chance. The cover is precious and the illustrations continue to enchant the reader throughout this charming book.

Christmas always strikes me as a

One Small Donkey: A Christmas Story, written by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by Marta Alvarez Miguens, is a children’s book about a little donkey who takes Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The story itself is twenty-five pages long and is geared toward children ages 4 to 8. The time it takes to read aloud is about three minutes – though it may be longer depending on your reading style and how dramatic you make your performance. For example, when Joseph “knock, knock, knocks on every door,” y ...more

This is a cute hard back book for little ones. It tells the story of Joseph and Mary going to Bethlehem and the baby Jesus being born from a donkey's point of view. It is written in rhyming prose, all beginning with One Small Donkey. Some of the rhyming may not be the best, but I don't really think a child is going to care and it gets the point across. It's a board book so all the pages are thick and hard and best for those tiny ones to turn the pages without tearing.

The illustrations are beaut
