You wouldn't pick your nose in an MBA interview, but would you make any of the other mistakes Paul Ollinger discusses in this, his irreverent first book?
Read You Should Totally Get an MBA to find out:
-Why you should (or shouldn’t) go to business school in the first place -How much more money you’ll make as an MBA—and the related NPV -What NPV means -How to avoid being a b-school a-hole, d-bag or an F-student -The math proving that business school is better than law school -How to ace the application process and distinguish yourself in the interview
Most importantly, this book will give you a decided edge over the dirty miscreants who don’t read it.
Paul Ollinger is a writer and stand-up comedian who has opened for some of the biggest names in the business. He also has an MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School and was one the first 250 employees of Facebook, where he served as VP of Sales for the Western United States. When he’s not on the road speaking, doing stand-up and sharing his unique POV on business and life, he is playing golf, binge watching Charlie Rose or checking Who’s Viewed Your Profile on LinkedIn. He lives in Atlanta, GA with his beautiful wife, two wonderful children and French bulldog, Colonel Tom Parker.
Very entertaining read. I'm on the tail end of the MBA application process (i.e. I'm matriculating in the fall). I think it would've been entertaining to read this during the process to add some levity to the insanity of it all.
Paul is clearly a very clever dude with a good sense of humor. The key thing is that you make sure you take his jokes for what they are.
Quick, fun read. Finished it in a day. The first half is mostly jokes while the second half has interesting tidbits for someone who is about to start b-school.
Can't say enough about how much I loved this book. I devoured it in just a few train rides. I got such a kick out of the book, especially the jabs at Chicago winters (I agreed with all of them). The book was the perfect length (short & sweet) with the perfect balance of laughs (Beavis & Butthead, Cinnabon, references to d-bags) & information. Every book should be entertaining & lively like this.
