Lonely Planet's Best In Travel annual guides and the New York Times 52 Places to Go lists are my go-to picks every year for staying on top of the travel trends. This was quintessential non-guidebook Lonely Planet: a blog post in a book. I loved it! I love lists and it was such a quick and fun read that highlighted some places I would not have thought of putting on my travel bucket list. I would love to have a N American-only version of this book. I would use the heck out of it.

Canada as number one country! Probably because all of our parks will be free next year. Can't wait!

A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week th
