Bastion Falls

Rate this book
In the Northeast, September usually brings the first chilly kiss of autumn. But in Bastion Falls, September has delivered a freakish snowstorm. Marilyn, a young, pretty, and divorced resident of the town, is thrown into the blizzard's white fury when her old truck dies on the outskirts of town. In her struggle to reach safety, Marilyn becomes aware of more than snow in the blinding storm. Something evil penetrates the air. Something that will bring a terrifying fate to the people in Bastion Falls--particularly the ones with something to hide.

A friend picked a copy up for $.05, and told me a little about it (and lent it to me). I figured I'd give the book a chance. I found it a slog to read. Hard to follow which character was thinking (too similar, and DIRTY?) and sometimes tenses would change mid-sentence. Ending had a lot to be desired. Feels like it could have done with 2-3 more edits/beta reader passes.

I decided to be generous and give it two stars.

Too strange. Couldn't connect to the main characters. Not like a Stephen King thriller at all.

This was a decent paranormal/suspense type book. Not scary but a bit eerie, interesting 'small town' characters....

What I call a 'Chew-em-up-spit-em-out' book. No real thinking required, just more or less brainless entertainment which can be nice.

This is a terrible read. A very stupid depressing book and not a good read at all. I don't like Stephen King books and Susie Moloney should definitely not try to write like him. The first third of the book makes no sense at all. What a waste of my time.

I rarely give five stars but Susie holds a special place in my life.

I'm a huge fan of John Saul and obviously Stephen King, which led me to find the wonderful books Moloney has written.

I love the premise, even though I hate snow.

This book was not at all what I expected, never did quite understand the meaning to it. I was also offended at the somewhat anti gay lean to it.

Could easily be the next Stephen King, she's just not as prolific. Great story.
