If you are okay with forced gender roles being presented to your kids, it's an okay book. You know like Mah stays at home and makes paint and soup, and Pah goes out and hunts reindeer. Mah and her daughter, Malina don't get to use the paint and brushes they make though. That's a man's job. The illustrations are pretty though.
I found this in a charity shop. It is a useful story for young ks2 children about the first settlers and an introduction to cave painting and some of the traditions from that part of history. Some of the writing is over complicated for children reading alone but overall a useful resource for cross curricular teaching.
