One-Pot Pasta shows that even after a long day at work anyone can prepare a hearty, healthy, and delicious supper in under half an hour.
I bought this before my celiac diagnosis and never tried the recipes bcz GF pasta cannot be cooked like this, but it gave me lots of new ideas for interesting combos to try on my own.
Not a fan. I'm a big foodie, and meals at my house resist simplification, thus I am always on the look out for new ideas. I saw this book at Eataly and was impressed at 1. one pot 2. few ingredients, and interesting concept. I love meals in one pot. ...but this was not it. If you stop and think of the science of it - when you cook the pasta separately, the large pot of water is full of starch. You pour it out, except for in a few cases where you save a small amount to moisten a sauce and help it bind to the pasta. In every case here, if you cook it in one pot, ALL the STARCH stays! I made just one recipe and I realized that the texture was disgusting, all starchy and gooey, like I'd made a flour thickened sauce (but w/out any good flavor upgrade). ...in addition, about a third of the recipes asked for prepared bacon bits, for flavor. That's something that would required I had something like that constantly on hand. I guess I could buy them at the salad bar, but that kind of takes the convenience of the 30 minute, home cooked-edness out of the equation doesn't it? Perhaps there are a few dishes in there that are improved by the starch, or maybe you have lardons/bacon bits lying around all the time, but this isn't improving anything at my house. It has already gone to the book donation pile.
People should give this for baby showers. Feeding yourself and your family should not be a crazy struggle. Dump some stuff in a pot, stir and enjoy! I have the actual book, not the Kindle edition.
Tämä on ainoa kokkikirja, jonka haluaisin ostaa itselleni. Kiireisen ihmisen kokkaukseen loisto-opus! Kaikki reseptit valmistuvat itsekseen padassa, n. 20 minuutissa. Pastan ystäville.
I must admit I was skeptical. I can actually make a lemon sauce in browned butter. But the recipes are clearly laid out and the carbonara I made today was perfect. The recipes take a tiny bit of interpretation, but that's what the intro is for. Recommended.
What a pleasant surprise! A good theme. A good structure. And very simple recipes: put the ingredients in the given order and set the heater on medium for 15 minutes.
