Bereft of an attempt to provide a helpful framework for definition of these conflicts as insurgency/counterinsurgencies as opposed to violence and warfare in general, the reader at best gets inspiration to seek more thoughtful guidance. Another Jeremy Black book that should stayed longer in the editing process in order to order and structure the undoubtedly vast trove of knowledge and talent for inspired insights.

Basically a laundry list of various insurgent actions throughout history. Interesting detail, but light on insight.
