Finished this book today. Actually went better the last few days that I've been reading it then did the whole book previously. Would have given it a 2 if I would have quit it several days ago but today now that I've read the rest of the book and its all come together, I'll give it a 3.5.
Oh my! What a story. Very well written. Four young very Catholic men growing up in New York city. Each take four very different path in life with varying degrees of success. Marriages, children and careers, love, indifference, sin, terrible sin and conflict. Through it all the four men keep in touch. Religion.....so much good.....so much bad.
I enjoyed this book. I liked how it jumped back and forth between the murder investigation and the history between the victim and his friends who are investigating the crime. What unfolds is a story about love lost and one man's attempt to deal with it. Enemy of God was an unexpected and enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this story about four boyhood friends who, as adults, become a priest, a police officer, a DA and a reporter. When the priest's body is found at the bottom of a four-story building the remaining friends can't believe it was suicide. The investigation paints a picture of their lives, one that deepens with every page and chapter.
