Seth Morrison really just wants to do his job and do it well. A Lieutenant on the police force, he's working twenty hour days trying to stay ahead of the crimes that just never seem to stop. he just doesn't have time to deal with the complications men bring. Relationships. Especially with guys who flirt and tease.
Brandon Lord owns and manages a shifter club, and has seen the Lieutenant around. Has seen enough to be interested - VERY interested. But Seth won't give the bear shifter the time of day. Until, that is, a murder investigation bring the man to Brandon's club. Then he has to deal with the man. Attraction flares, but Brandon doesn't mix business with pleasure.
But when the investigation points to someone Brandon's helped, he has to reach out to the man for help. Especially now that he and his young charge are targeted. When he's attacked and injured he reaches out to Seth for help, and their attraction takes over.
Will their unexpected coupling last? Will they stay safe long enough to protect a young man who needs their help? Or will the bad guys win?
Silvia Violet has done herself proud with this hot, fun and exciting tale of bears, sexy men and murder. This story rocks along with good, snappy dialogue, a coherent plot and great characters that grab the reader's attention and holds it.
Seth is a hot bear of a man - focused, committed but really in need of a partner. He's a good guy at heart, wants to be loved, and is seriously in need of some balance in his life. He takes himself way too seriously.
And Brandon is the fun that he needs. He brings excitement, passion and life to Seth's solidity. His sense of fun hides an honorable and committed man.
I really enjoyed this shifter tale. Ms. Violet made her men hot, fun and easy to relate to - something so many other writers of shifter fiction miss. I liked these guys and would love to see more of them.
3.5* Seth is a lieutenant on the police force, he is over worked, underpaid and has no life outside of the cases he is on and the crimes he solves. Brandon is a bear-shifter ( yummmm) and a flirty owner of a bar that caters to shifters, when dead bodies are found in his office it gives him the opportunity to finally get a little closer to the sexy lieutenant he's been lusting after. It's a fun, hot fast read.
While this isn’t a direct sequel to 'Sex on the Hoof', a previous book in the 'Protect and Serve' series, it does involve some of the same characters. Drew the vampire detective is back, as is his boyfriend Jason, the deer shifter, but the attention shifts to Drew's boss, police Lieutenant Seth Morrison and Brandon, a bear shifter who may or may not be involved in some serious criminal activity.
Seth may be a human, but he can growl with the best of them. He is a workaholic, believes in the good fight, and will bend the rules when he thinks it's the right thing to do. Which is why he stood up for Drew's right to remain a detective even after he was changed into a vampire and the majority of humans no longer wanted to work with him. This earned Seth a reputation with shifters, who are now more than happy to back him up. And that's a good thing, because the latest case he is working on is really hairy. So is the man he is supposed to arrest for murder, bear shifter Brandon. Not only is Seth more attracted to him than to anyone else, he also doesn’t believe Brandon did what the evidence seems to suggest. Instinct-1, rules-0.
Brandon owns a club, and has seen some shady business in his time, but this latest case makes his fur stand on end. He is determined to help, no matter the consequences, but he hadn’t counted on the complication of falling in lust with the detective in charge of working the case. It certainly complicates things and as much as Brandon wants to "get his paws" on Seth, he also has too much integrity to break his word and stop protecting the man who is at the center of the issues. Brandon is a typical bear in many ways, and protection, after all, is one of the things bears are good at. So is cooking, apparently, at least in his case, and his pie baking skills are almost as amazing as what he ends up doing with the finished product. Very, very hot!
If you like shifter stories that are entertaining as well as suspenseful, if you think a "bear of a man" and a "man who shifts into a bear" might be fun to follow when they run into each other, and if you're looking for a read that is as hot as it is full of criminals who need to be caught and brought to justice, then you will probably like this short story.
Friends are all finding themselves in hot relationships. When will Seth find his mate? Overworked and tired, Seth is assigned to yet another homicide. Sexy Seth finally meets his man. Brandon is a bear shifter who owns a club where two wolf shifters have been killed.
Brandon is a terrible flirt who catches Seth's eyes. He messes up Seth's investigation and then proceeds to dig his way into Seth's life. This latest in the series was fast paced. The main point of the story was really about Seth coming to grips with a meaningful relationship.
What confused me about the story were the chapter headings which indicated a blog. Why is it a blog? I understand the change in point of views, switching between Seth and Brandon. I just didn't comprehend the need of "Seth's blog" and "Brandon's blog".
While this story was light and easily resolved, I still enjoyed it because of the smexy scenes. When Brandon and Seth get together in bed, boy is it hot. I'm really enjoying the male on male interaction. Ms. Violet writes it smoldering hot. This was a sweet addition to her shifter series. I recommend this short hot little number to m/m lovers who want a happily ever after.
"Years ago, I tried being married. That worked for about thirty seconds. My wife wanted me to work shorter hours. I wanted her to talk less, or maybe never."
Yep. You guessed it. I fell in love with Seth instantly. I don't know what that says about me that I find a complete workaholic police lieutenant who can't navigate romantic signals but is fine dealing with homicides all day, insanely hot, but I'll figure it out later. Then there's Brandon, bear shifter and owner of a shifter bar, who is a terrible flirt and stirs all kinds of things up inside Seth. Brandon isn't exactly immune, either, and he's determined to get his man.
Such a fun but WAY too short story! Now I need to get caught up on the other books in the series *grins*
It's written in alternating first person present tense.
It says the chapters are their blogs but its written nothing like a personal blog entry would be. And they have the exact same narrative voice so if it wasn't for the chapter labels you really wouldn't know who's pov it was, so they're useful however misleading IMO. (Since its not blog like at all).
It's pretty much instant lust all instant erections twitching and cocks "sitting up to take notice." There's no substance or development beyond the physical.
Chapter 1 was a long info dump to basically say the station is underfunded and the mc doesn't do romance because he's a one night stand kind of slut. Not sure why it was dragged out for 10% of the book to say so little.
In not sure if its the present tense or just choppy writing but it's confusing and doesn't draw me in at all. I've had to reread several parts for them to make sense. Especially the part where it uses four characters, I don't remember their names but had to read that section three times to get who was who. First two times I thought the names mixed up, but then realized it was just the way it was worded that made it so confusing.
This is one big immature cliche. Shower fantasy jerk off scene over the instant lusting over a guy that isn't your type but something just draws you to him when really there's nothing you like about him except he's hot. But you're over 40 so no way could you not fantasy about him while showering even though he's a suspect and you shouldn't.
Please this is just shit. It's not intriguing or developed or any tension. 16% and wonder how far I should go before marking dnf.
Sad the first book with the deer and the vampire was so cute and way better.
"Sometimes it's okay to break the rules" the other cop tells this cop. Saying it's okay to fuck a suspect in an active double murder investigation. Really that's okay?
This is just annoying. Every thoughts sexual and one I've read a hundred times before in every instant love/lust story. There is nothing unique or gripping about these characters. There is no chemistry or tension just lots of forced thoughts and bs. Hard to believe this cop supposed to be in his 40's
LMAO a whole chapter on how the cop doesn't want a relationship and then ONE kiss and he wants all this romance and a relationship. Not sure it gets more instant than this bs.
It's been a while since I've read mm. I forgot the top has to yell "come for me!" So they can both get off at same time. And of course come so hard their vision blurs.
And the sex scene lasts approx 15% of the book. Of course they come repeatedly within minutes and its like the scene drags on and on.
The other guy pinches him, knocks him out and just leaves him bleeding on the floor. This is after they've both had all their sappy inner thoughts of loving each other and blah. Yeah assaulting a police officer and your lover and running. That's really a likable character. Sure sex will again fix everything later on.
At least next sex scene is only 6% of book. It's the same scene as first one just condensed and they switch roles. It's sappy scene. Uses love and "need you" a lot. You'd think they'd been apart for months but it had only been a couple hours. And luckily the sex really does fix everything and they don't have to even mention the assault from the previous scene.
WTF? He heard a noise knowing dangers nearby so he steps out in the open and is surprised he gets shot? Some great sharp cop he proves to be. They keep saying how great of a cop he is yet none of that's shown at all. First he fucks the suspect. (He really couldn't wait for the case to be over?) he's knocked out with one punch. He never actually does any investigating, it's all having other people do it and then they tell him what's going on and how to find the cabin. Then he's an idiot when in danger and is the first one incapacitated and just lays there until the actions done. How is any of this make him seem like he has even a hint of competence?
The last sex scene he dumps pie on his big furry chest. Smothers his chest pelt and the other eats it. How is hair pie supposed to be sexy? They use apple pie filling as lube?! In what world can sticky sugar be used as lube?!
He can barely walk and standing makes him dizzy. But he's fine having sex. "Rough and hard" sex which was really just average old doggy style. But it's weird he can't stand up but he can kneel behind the guy
This could have been a lot better if it used less cliches. If it took time to develop the little plot there was and to develop the characters. Instead this takes place over a night and a day and they fall in love instantly. First sight that's all it was, so it never showed them getting to know each other or building chemistry. Nope they were both instantly in love because they both "hot" and it was all sex thoughts and twitching cocks until they had sex. Then it was all sex with a couple gaps for small amount plot filler.
I'm trying not to give 1 stars as much these days. So 1.5 stars since I finished it and rounding up to 2

Zwei tote Werwölfe in seinem Club?
I read the previous one by Silvia Violet in the Protect and Serve series and it was nice, but Pawn on Me is really good. I liked the story between a young and hot bear shifter and an well-weathered cop, on the other side of forty, who is not a “bear” shifter, but who is actually a “bear” on his own.
Seth was never good in relationship, he tried with both women and men, and it’s ages he has decided to give up; so when Brandon, young club owner and shifter, comes strong at him, he decides to ignore the youngster… problem is Brandon is not easy to ignore, and when an investigation brings Seth directly to Brandon’s club, and into Brandon’s arms, resisting is futile.
I liked the mix of powers in the couple; even if Seth is the older, he is not for this reason by default the top; as, on the other side, even if Brandon is the shifter, and then the stronger, neither this is the reason for him to lead the relationship. That between Seth and Brandon is an hot game of giving and taking, and the sex is good, rough but passionate, not without romanticism.
This is only a novella, and it’s mostly about Seth and Brandon’s relationship and their discovering each other in and out of the bedroom (but mostly in); nevertheless, it was a nice piece of erotic romance, and I liked it a lot.
The second book in the Law and Supernatural Order features Lieutenant Seth Morrison. Seth ‘s whole life has been dedicated to running his station. With budget cuts, he has no choice but to work extra hours to keep everything moving. That leaves him with no time for anything else. Brandon Lord runs the night club where two werewolves are found murdered. He appears to be flirtatious and easy-going, but he is hiding from his past. When the two meet during the course of the investigation, sparks fly. Seth knows he is breaking the rules but cannot seem to help himself.
Paws on Me is an intriguing case, not just of murder but so much more. Seth has not time in life for romance but before this investigation is over he will make time. Brandon is one to keep his inner self very private, but before this is over, he finds himself revealing much to Seth. Two men seeming opposites find themselves with more than one common goal. Will they reach their goals? Only one way to find out and that is to pick up Paws on Me and read it. You will be glad you did.
I think I enjoyed this one more then the first. Whilst the stories are separate, it is easier to read them in order; makes it easier to not have to think to hard about who people are. I liked Seth an awful lot and his loyalty to the station was awesome. Lord was fun and a big softy.
Did not finish: narrator talking directly to the reader with a major attitude annoyed me with the first novel, and I didn’t have the stamina to do it again
Seth pretty much lives for his job; sleeping and eating frequently fall to the wayside and don’t even bring up the possibility of a relationship. When his latest case brings Seth into contact with Brandon Lord, an inveterate flirt Seth has run into before, Seth tells himself that Brandon is a witness and nothing more. When the shots start firing, however, things between them begin to heat up and Seth will have to decide for himself whether having Brandon is worth breaking all the rules.
I liked this one; you get the same easy read type mystery as the previous book yet there’s a completely different feel to this one. Aside from fans of paranormal or books featuring law enforcement, this will be most appealing to those that enjoy their men nice and hairy because when I say this book has bears in it, I mean that in every sense of the word! Both Seth and Brandon were big, furry men that, despite the differences in age and lifestyle, were a really good fit for each other.
The story itself was a fairly low key read but still managed to be interesting and enjoyable. I liked how completely different this story was from the first book yet still kept a lot of the same elements. There is a decent amount of sex featured but the author had a fairly good balance between that and the overall plot which was appreciated so I never felt as though there was an overload of bed time between the main characters. The story is pretty much an insta-lust quickly moving into love so those that don’t care for that kind of story may not enjoy this as much but if you’re looking for an easy mystery with a couple of hot, hairy men you might want to check this one out.
Seth loves being a cop and really can’t see the point of anything else taking up his time until he meets bear shifter Brandon. Brandon has his eye on Seth and won’t give up until the man is in his bed.
Brandon is flirty, out-going and determined. Seth is gruff, grouchy and a work-a-holic, but when these two men get together they seem to balance each other out. Seth ends up at Brandon’s club when he is called there about a crime. A crime that Brandon realizes is about a young shifter he helped escape. Brandon takes drastic action when he realizes the young man could be in danger and Seth is really, really not happy about that.
I liked these two men and it wasn’t easy going for them, what with Brandon hiding stuff from Seth and Seth determined to carry out his job. The sex between them was incredible hot and I loved Brandon’s kind heart and even though he acts very flirty inside he is more of a homebody. Seth is rubbish at relationships, but for Brandon he is willing to give it his best shot.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, really hot sex, danger and a happy ever after.

Lieutenant Seth Morrison is married to his job as a cop, which works just fine for him, especially with the budget cuts that force him to work for longer hours.
Brandon Lord is the owner of Shifter, a club in the city. He's flirtatious, way younger than Seth, a bear shifter and very intent on getting into Lt. Morrison's pants.
When a murder investigation brings them together, sparks fly and they are unable to take their hands (and paws) off each other.
This was a short, hot read! Brandon and Seth had great chemistry and while they seemed like an unlikely pair, they worked great together, both in and out of bed.
It was lovely to see Drew and Jason again, working closely together with Seth to solve a murder. The case itself was really interesting and fast-paced and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen.
Seth the cop who never stops and Brandon the owner of shift (a bar for shifters)when someone leaves dead bodies in his office he garners the attention of Seth...but Seth tries to deny his attraction to the hot bar owner until Brandon is shot by an intruder....They are both hot together and when Seth finally realises he has feelings for Brandon things just get hotter....A brilliant edition to the series x
This is part of a series and characters from prior books have welcome cameos.
Seth and Brandon were great together. A cop and a bear shifter, two spicy dominants. This was a quick mm romance, packed with temptation, passion, humor, suspense, and apple pie.
I enjoy her books so much, this one did not disappoint. Her men are funny and sexy.
If you need a quick fix and love paranormal, read this book and the series.
When a series completely captivates me for an an afternoon, I know I found a keeper.Silvia Violet is an author I adore-personally as a friend and as an author. She writes wonderful stories filled with mystery, passion and romance. Her characters fairly brim with life, enjoyable and complex as we are and the sex scenes are smoking hot.
