TAINTED REALITY Volume 2 By Ashley Fontainne 5 stars
Life hangs by a string
DR. EVERETT BERNING achieves his life’s work by discovering a cure for drug addiction. Unfortunately, the formula is stolen and falls into the hands of the enemy. This second volume takes up where Volume 1 stops and Dr. Everett Berning is hiding out in the laboratory where he worked on the original vaccine to stop addiction for ten years and finally succeeded. Drug lords from around the world, pay their scientists to find a way to use the original vaccine to make the world full of addicts, but instead their scientists unknowingly make a drug that turns humans into zombies and cannibals, releasing this new drug into the public, affecting millions across the globe. Within forty-eight hours, worldwide people are becoming zombies, killing and eating the bodies. Sometimes they eat the bodies before the victim is dead. The entire planet erupts in total chaos as the disease spreads and there are mutilated bodies and gore everywhere. Through trial and process, the survivors find that you can only kill these zombies by shooting them in the head. The military is sent out to stop the terror, but its decision is just to shoot everyone still alive and stomp out the disease that way. There are a few survivors trying desperately to live and help others who are till disease free. In the meantime, Everett remains underground hiding in his lab and he is being pressured by the few other surviving scientists to find a vaccine to overcome this horror. So far he is helpless. This particular story concentrates on a group of people who are still free of the disease and they are attempting to make their way to the back part of Walmart, believing that they can hole up there, and survive for a few months. But the zombies break in and a few more people die. The small group of survivors manage to make it to the hospital, but it has already been invaded. Now the survivors, including a couple of teenagers and some hunters, all armed, are out in the mountains, attempting to find a safe zone where they can live where the zombies have not invaded. This story has many twists and turns, actions and surprises as is usual with this author. There will be a third book in this series coming out on the market soon. I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review.
Ashley writes in multiple genres ranging from mystery/thrillers to suspenseful paranormal to dark comedy. The recipient of numerous awards for her gritty, no-holds barred style of writing, her stories will captivate and pull you inside the lives of her characters and intricate plot lines.
Tainted Reality, book 2 picks up exactly where Tainted Cure drops off. You are back into the tension and the ugliness of the laboratory that has caused such damage and worse yet, zombies. Soldiers are seeking out the contaminated people and ridding society of the infected people that they find.
We also are following The police Chief, Regina Parker. Regina has a small group of survivors hiding, making friends with each other, and watching the carnage that is happening right outside the local WalMart. The infiltrating zombies are certainly keeping them all on their toes.
Ashley Fontainne has brought me into a genre that I had never suspected I could love. But these books are amazing. The characters are very well crafted and have such great personalities. When special fiercely strong people are wounded and facing death, I cried. These strong, wonderful people are so close to me after two books.
I am listening to the audiobook and it is wonderful to hear Rebecca Roberts as the narrator. As she has a wide variety of voices that she shares throughout the book. You learn to recognize each character by their voice.
My original Tainted Reality audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer. The Rememdium series started off with Tainted Cure, which should be read prior to Tainted Reality, as this continues where the first book ended. Following the outbreak and the collapse of civilization, one group of survivors is heading for the local Walmart thinking this may be a safe place to hide out. Part of the military is trying to continue their rather unconventional way of erasing the entire problem. Meanwhile, Dr. Everett and his group are back in the lab trying to figure out what happened with the cure and what to do next. New characters are introduced and storylines are starting to merge. It’s very difficult to say much more without spoiling the story. However, this was one gripping, suspenseful tale that had me smiling one minute and tearing up the next. The fate of one character, in particular, had me totally gobsmacked. Not in a million years had I expected that Ashley Fontainne was going to go there. I’m actually amazed by how invested I am in these characters already. Once I got halfway over that heartbreaking shock, I found myself shouting at another character “No, don’t do it!” a little later. Seriously, I don’t usually get carried away, but there is something in the way the author creates these people that you feel deeply connected to them. There is obviously a good bit of zombie action with blood and gore, but while Tainted Reality is mainly an exciting dystopian thriller, Ashley Fontainne also quite cleverly inserts a few philosophical aspects, which make you ponder life and beyond. Simply brilliant. Don’t miss out on this series just because it may not be your usual genre, it certainly isn’t mine, but the plot and the characters have so much depth, you can’t help but get hooked on it. Tainted Future, part 3 of the series, is due out in June and already on my wish list. Can’t wait! Great writing!
Rebecca Roberts’s narration is simply outstanding. I’m in awe by the range of voices she comes up with and manages to stick with throughout. These characters really come to life and you can visualize the story as if you were watching a movie. For a female narrator to make the tough guys sound so male and believable is just incredible. There were no issues with the production. Audiobook provided for review by the audiobookreviewer.com
Tainted Reality by Ashley Fontainne is Book II of The Rememdum Series. The books need to be read in order and Tainted Reality picks up where Tainted Cure left off. This is one horror story that will have you wondering….could this really happen?
Everett Berning had found the cure for addiction, but the cure had become Tainted with a fatal result. Some preach the end of the world by global warming and nuclear detonation, but no one had anticipated this…Apocalypse.
Who will survive? Can they find a cure for the Tainted Cure or will this be a new world that mankind will have to learn to traverse?
I love this saying: Courage is being afraid but doing it anyway.
“Normal” people’s actions will go above and beyond the horror that is worse than their wildest imagination could concoct. In a time of crises, people show what they are made of, their true character shines through. Some are leaders, some are followers. Some are able to overcome their fears, others are cattle, either saved or lead to slaughter. Which are you?
And the government…What happens when it collapses? What happens when the leaders are dead or missing and presumed dead…communications nonexistent.
The world has ended, at least any world you would recognize. The dead come to life and they want YOU!
Executions, murder, slaughter…See who rises to the top, leads when in doubt, shoots to kill.
As a read along, I am always trying to put myself in the characters place. What would I do? Would I step up to the plate or collapse, paralyzed by terror. What would you do?
I felt for the characters as they struggled to survive. I felt their sorrow and determination. Is there anybody left who can figure out the answers?
Regina and Jesse, a mom and daughter, will step up in a big way. They stand out as exceptional characters to me and I had to mention them…specifically.
Ashley Fontainne’s books I have read are unique, fast paced and anything but predictable. I was a bit disappointed as I read along…because it is predictable. After all, how many variations can there be to a zombie story?
BUT, Ashley Fontainne’s fantastic writing of such bloody and gruesome savagery, with twists and turns of the plot, filled with love and sacrifice among the horror and conspiracy, makes the predictable work all too well. It’s a new world and the more I read, the more involved I become with the complex characters. Her writing is at such a high level that even the predictable is a cut above the rest.
Now…the wait begins for Tainted Future, Book III of The Rememdum Series.
I received a copy of Tainted Reality by Ashley Fontainne in returne for an honest review.
This is book 2 so may contain spoilers for book 1, though I do try not to post any!!
This edition sees the group trying to reach the the local Walmart, believing they will be safe there for the time being. But when the military hear word of this, they are willing to do all they can to take out the untested. I can't really say much more without spoiling things for you, so all I'll say is wow, this was an emotional rollercoaster!! Loyalties are tested, friendships made, lives lost and a whole lot of Zombie action!
Once again, the author takes this to another level. The pot of this one is incredibly fast paced and gripping. In book one, the scene is set but here we see the devastation that it has caused. We also see the doc responsible for the cure witnessing just what he helped create, albeit unwillingly. The author gives just enough blood and gore to satisfy the zombie lovers but she also creates a story you become invested in and characters that will capture your heart. There isn't one negative thing I can say about this book and I'm more than looking forward to book 3!! Bring it on!!!!
Ashley Fontainne never fails to deliver in her writing! This author can spin one hell of a tale and always throws in twist after twist. I have never failed to be awed by what happens and I honesty think she is one of the most overlooked authors. I HIGHLY recommend her work and hope that more people read them!!!
This story jumps right into where we left off in book 1. Dr. Everett is in the lab being pressured into making a cure to the zombies. You have the military that have discovered that shooting the zombies in the head stops them but has decided to shoot everyone to be doubly sure that the zombies are eradicated. Then there is Regina. She is trying to keep her little band of survivors safe and alive.
Dr. Everett is underground in the Ozarks and being pressured to make figure out what went wrong with the cure and if they can fix it. You also have Regina Parker and her little group of survivors. They think they may have a little rest at a Walmart but nothing is this new world is going to be safe for long. I really enjoyed following Regina, she is such a strong woman and determined to try and save her little group. Of course the odds are stacked against them.
I recommend reading this series since this book follows closely on the heels of Tainted Cure. It’s so easy to get into this action packed story. And the ending, OMG!! Talk about a shocker and cliff hanger. Thank goodness I have Tainted Future to get right into.
I received Tainted Reality from Silver Dagger Book Reviews for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
The zombie genre is not a favorite but I really was able to follow the story best because the narrator uses her voice talent very well to distinguish between characters and in a very animated and distinct way.
The story must have some value of intrigue because I'm normally not in a hurry to get into a new zombie story (they seem fairly predictable), but the story definitely sets up to want to believe that there might be a scientific cure for the anomaly.
I listened to book 1 about a year ago. I thought it would be harder to remember the details but they all came back to me. I really enjoy all of he characters and can’t wait to see where the series goes. I already have the next 2. This was a really short one and just when I thought wow it was over. Already started book 3. Narrator is amazing! Great pick for the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the publisher/author but voluntarily give my honest review.
They figured out the cause of the outbreak! Let's see if they can cure it in book 3. So far this is an excellent series! I think the story is very well written and the narrator is great! Looking forward to the next book!
This is part two of an outstanding read about finding a cure for any addiction and what the evil people do with that find. In book 1 Drug Lords have taken this cure and mixed it with other things making people depended on drug to keep sales up. They sent it out all over the country to Drug Lords who gave it to their suppliers releasing it all at once. When people started using the world goes mad people changing before your eyes, these things eating people alive making them change and the cycle will continue until there is nothing alive but nature unless they can find the reason and a cure for it.
This is a powerful read with the author giving vivid details of everything going on around them as people try to get away from the zombie and go into hiding waiting for the world to go back to normal. There will be many trials as they hunt for a safe place, love ones will die, and others will come up missing as the military is sent to kill all who has not been tested. We follow one little group as they make a run for their lives and another group trying to find the reasoning behind all this horror.
Rebecca Roberts narration is outstanding I really like this narrator. She has wonderful character voices that are filled with emotion giving this a highly entertain listen you will get lost in. Her male voices are just as great as her female ones. She has a smooth sexy voice you could listen to all day. Her male characters voices are rough, tough and strong, with the wick ones showing through in her tones. I am so amazed that she can do so many voices so wonderfully. With Ms. Roberts many different tones you have no doubt what each person is feeling. You can hear the fear, how scared they are as she puts just the right emotion into her voice. I heard no background noises or any place where the audio is louder than other places. If a break was taken you cannot tell. You get a clear clean audio that sounds wonderful that will leave you hanging on her every word. You really should listen to anything by this narrator you will be blow away from her voices, tones, emotions and how she really brings the audio to life it is almost like seeing it at the movies. I recommend this very talented narrator. I am sure you will love her as much as I do.
As we saw in book 1 this is a very talented author who knows how to hold the attention of her readers giving them a story that will make you hold your breath at the vivid details she writes. There is nothing I didn’t like about this story with its many twists and turns along with the thrills and chills. Just as the first one this will be an audio you won’t be able to put down needing to know the outcome. I can hardly wait to listen to book 3 to see if this will be the end of the human race or if they will stop this nightmare with a cure for the cure. From the start of this audio I was wowed by the story line and all it contained. I feel sure it won’t take you long to be as hooked on this book as I am. I was left with my mouth hung open and at times saying OH MY GOD to even awww with a few lord that is nasty. I doubt you can listen to this and not be very much invested with the vivid details the author gives you. You have a wonderful plot with great characters that have you so invested it will really hit home when one dies or taken away. This is a kill or be killed read. You must never turn you back because you friend might be eating it. The end of the world is a very scare things but what this author does with it will blow you out of the water.

The continued story of the survivors of a savior drug gone bad
4.5 out of 5 stars
Ashley Fontainne is back with another Rememdium Series book. Tainted Reality picks up where Tainted Cure leaves off. Follow different groups of people as they try to survive this incredibly virulent zombie apocalypse that is taking over the world.
The narration for Tainted Reality was done by Rebecca Roberts (who also narrated Tainted Cure). And Roberts does a perfect job again. She is able to lend her voice so perfectly to some of the main characters in this story -- making the listener feel like they are actually listening to people tell their story. Rebecca Roberts will definitely be on my radar when I'm looking to buy my next audiobook.
Tainted Reality has a lot of blood and gore in it, almost too much. Almost. The reality of the situation lends itself to being as gory and bloody as this is written. I enjoyed the deep and disgusting descriptions of the different deaths and attacks. It really made this book feel real.
I absolutely love Regina Parker. She might be one of my favorite post-apocalyptic/zombie survival characters ever. She's a total BA all while still remaining a sweetheart who is still trusting.
I'm not really sure how many more Rememdium books that Fontainne plans on writing, but I am all-in now. I need to know what happens to these characters. I want more!
Overall, Tainted Reality was another wonderfully written and narrated story by Fontainne and Roberts. Keep it up, and you will have a fan for life.

While this genre isn't what I typically read, I have very much enjoyed Ashley Fontainne's Rememdium series and look forward to more. In this book we get to see new characters enter the story and old (and loved) ones leave it. The story is volatile and emotional, with plenty of surprises along the way. It held a decent amount more gore and violence than Tainted Cure. This definitely isn't a book for someone who can't handle or simply dislikes rather graphic violence and plenty of guts and gore. (And if you have a weak stomach, it's probably best you don't try to eat during the story. You might very well lose your appetite.) As with Tainted Cure, this book ended in a huge cliffhanger and left us with what was definitely not a happy ending (but that's only to be expected considering the state of affairs in the world). The series has me absolutely hooked and on the edge of my seat. I anxiously (and excitedly) await the third installment of the Rememdium series.
A note on the narration of the Audible copy of this book: I'll admit I wasn't entirely fond of the narration/narrator of book 1, I definitely got used to it in book 2. I am glad they stuck with the same woman and hope they do the same with book 3.
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
This book picks up where the 1st one left off, they are on the way to the Walmart to haul up and try to wait this disaster out, the military have orders to assassinate anyone who is not tested to try and contain this virus....it becomes an all out war within this town of Rockport, and the town people win! Well the Walmart doesn't work out, so a new plan is to get to a secure cave that has been prepped for this sort of occasion! In the mean time Dr Berning has some military guys go out to find him an infected so he can try and figure out whats going on, they come across a pack with some of the magic powder that started this fiasco...One of the men partakes, and his friend has to kill him, but now they know what caused this...and Dr Berning can try and save the world!!!!
GOOD STORY AND GREAT NARRATION, I REALLY LIKE THIS SERIES!!!!
CAN NOT WAIT FOR BOOK 3!!!!
They just get better each book...I am on to book 3..and then the much anticipated book 4...FINALLY!!!
This was a really good book. Though zombie novels are not my usual cup of tea, this book (and the series) is really good - I think its because it seems so realistic. The characters are well-developed and I find myself actually caring about them. To avoid a spoiler alert, let's just say I was really shocked by the death of one of my favorite characters in the book. This book is every bit as good as the first book in the series, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I listened to the Audible audio version of the book narrated by Rebecca Roberts. I really enjoy her narration. I usually prefer male narrators over female, but Ms. Roberts is an exception. She has great character differentiation, and even though she doesn't have a lower-range voice like most of the female narrators I like, she is still able to portray a male character without making it seem forced or campy. Overall, a great book with great narration. I highly recommend this book (and the series) especially for fans of zombie novels, and even for people who are not normally fans.
•Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
"Yes, because when I am enjoying an audiobook I find work goes faster."
•What did you like best about this story?
"I like that the premise for how a zombie outbreak began is different from other zombie novels I've read. This is the first time I've encountered a book of this nature based on the dangers of drug use."
•Which character – as performed by Rebecca Roberts – was your favorite?
"There are a lot of characters & so far I don't have a favorite. Plus characters tend to die, so it's probably not a good idea to get attached."
•Did Tainted Reality inspire you to do anything?
"It kept me entertained while I worked."
•Any additional comments?

This is probably an great book in the zombie genre. I enjoyed it for a story. I was lost for a long time though. I didn't realize this was a second in a series and the author did not do anything to bring the reader up to speed as many authors do. Even your readers will have gone a long time between books most likely and will need a slight refresher. None the less, eventually I figured out who the players were and was able to follow. There was a government experiment to try and help that went way wrong and it passed along in drugs. Most people are going to die, but there are probably several hero groups around the world and this is the story of one such group. The narrator did an excellent job in this one. It is a female and she did both male and female voices just fine and different enough we could follow who was talking.
This is another wonderful thrill ride in Ashley Fontainne's Rememdium Trilogy and continues where the previous book left off. The author pulls no punches in this blood, sweat and tears imagining of a future in which people love, people die and people run for their lives from zombies.
This is not your standard zombie apocalypse novel or series. You will be stunned and amazed by the twists and turns and emotional roller coaster ride that Ashley puts you on, as well as the depth and scope of this uniquely different series. This is a fantastic one you definitely won't want to miss.
I received this book as part of a series, from the narrator. As indicated previously, this is outside my usual genre preference. I did enjoy it, although the writing of the book was not as enjoyable as the first book.
The narrator kept the book alive and real. If it was not for her, I might have not finished the read.
Our stories continue with Rebecca Roberts narrating, not a world after a 'cure' for drug addiction is altered and unloaded into the world.Zombies are a constant threat as well as other survivors who are taking everything with no thought for others. It is a heck of a ride into the future... I was given this book free for a honest review.I honestly love listening to these stories!
The next chapter in this post apocalyptic series kept me riveted to the end. If you like zombies, you will enjoy this series and the new take on how the living dead were created. The narrator did a great job portraying the characters. I am excited to read the next book.
