If I could give this book 0 stars, I would. Stanzma has a complete disregard for the English language, page numbers, citations/references, and women. The book is filled with spelling and grammatical errors. He starts sentences with "and", misspells words, and capitalizes incorrectly. Stanzma references about 30 examples of leaders - all of these people are male. He chooses to include Fidel Castro and Mao Zedong as examples of "incredible leaders" instead of strong female leaders, such as Marissa Mayer, Meg Whitman, Susan B. Anthony, Margaret Thatcher, and many more. He uses gender exclusive language, such as "he" and "himself" instead of "he or she" and "himself or herself". I wish I could provide page numbers of these errors, but alas, the book has none. The book appears to be strictly his opinion, as suggested by the complete lack of references to scholarly articles or studies. The only thing that this book motivated me to do was inform others not to waste their time or money on this book.

As other reviewers have noted, this book only deserves a single star because you can't give zero. Truthfully, it deserves negatives. So I begrudgingly give it a single star. Derek Stanzma, begrudgingly means that I do not do it willfully. To use this term in a sentence (which is one of the basic elements of writing) I would say "I begrudgingly read this book." As a matter of fact the only reason why I read it, as I would assume is the same reason why anybody else read it, is because I had to.

Where do you start? When I found my first grammatical error, on page... never mind, there are no pages in this book because it was written as an eBook, and printed out as if it was still an eBook, formatted sloppily and with as little care as any other effort put into this piece of trash... I assumed that the editor simply missed this error, as I have seen in actual pieces of literature, although not often. When I found the second grammatical error, not much further on, and mind you still at the beginning of the book, I was a little confused as to how the editor would miss this one too. When I got to the third grammatical error, just a little bit past the second one, I asked myself "who edited this book?" When I made it to the fourth error, I decided to see who edited the book, and I should have realized that there shouldn't have been a surprise when I saw that it was also edited by Stanzma.

I don't know if the book was edited by Stanzma because he was too lazy to pay an editor to do it, or if no editor would lend their name to such a horrific excuse for a long winded fortune cookie. Fortune cookie; this is all I kept reflecting on. The sad truth is that most fortune cookies I have read have less grammatical errors, and are more applicable and more motivating. A random grab into the Costco sized container of fortune cookies would provide at least as effective advice as this cliche laden embarrassment, and would also provide you with a tasty treat!

If you can make it past what ends up becoming a grammatical error laden atrocity, and you manage not to become too distracted by how awfully written this book actually is, you will realize that any benchwarmer who dreams of one day having a crack at the bat possess as much leadership advice as Stanzma. I cannot repeat how much of a cliche this book is. The best advice this book should give is "if you are reading this book with the hopes of it actually teaching you anything useful about leadership, you should just give up now."

The only motivating factor I gleaned from this book was that if Derek Stanzma can write a book, and publish it even in the horrific way which it was published, then you truly can accomplish anything. To see something so poorly written actually make it to the point where it can be passed off as a book, even an eBook, should give hope to even the biggest failure. You truly can do it! Derek Stanzma did!

If the errors aren't enough to completely defeat you, look forward to the end, where the real motivation comes. Here, you can seek biographical motivation as you lead over the list of great leaders such as the prophet muhammad, Mao Zedong and Fidel Castro. Yup, out of all the amazing leaders which have graced us in our history, these three so necessarily made it into the pages of this inspirational and motivational classic. These are "some of the most glorious people in the history of mankind."

But don't take my word for it, take "Gladiator's" word for it. Gladiator, the man, not Maximus Desimus Meridius, but Gladiator, is quoted in the book as well.

I can continue my sarcasm, but I don't think I need to. If the point isn't made by me, you will surely understand within the first few pages.

As I explained to Amazon when I returned the book due to the fact that it was "defective," "I can't get my time back, but I can get my money back." I will not be one of the 5,000+ copies sold worldwide. Do yourself a favor and make sure you aren't either.

Simple and effective

Derek does a good job of hitting the key points to act upon if you want to set yourself apart as a leader. I found this book to be refreshing and a quick and effective read.
