It wouldn’t be the first time father and son disagreed on politics, but for Darius, it is a matter of public note because his father is one of the king’s councilors. Young Darius wants to abolish the lines between the upper class that takes and controls and the lower classes who carry the burden of hard labor for little reward. Is it because his heart belongs to a lower class girl? But now Darius has a bigger problem, of prophetic proportions, as he discovers a hidden magic within him that he ha ...more

This review comes as a surprise to me. I didn't think I'd love this book, but I thought I'd like it well enough. And it started out on the path of 3 stars, which is good in my opinion. (4 is great, 5 is OMFGAMAZING.)

But it quickly lost steam. After Darius discovered his powers in chapter 1, nothing really happened. It was all very repetitive, with Darius getting angry thanks to his new powers, reacting and then regretting getting angry. I got so bored of him regretting everything.

The Path of Destiny opens with the promise of a classic sword and sorcery adventure; though it manages to hit all the notes along the way, it doesn't really deliver. The world manages to avoid most of the typical stereotypes but never gets really fleshed out; predictable but fairly enjoyable characters are hampered by flat dialog and choices that serve the plot more than their personality and motivation; the spirit of thrill and adventure is stymied by a lack

I was asked to review this by Inspired by Kathy.

I was really pulled into this story from page one, this was a really unique story- a new world.

There are twists and sideways turns - really could not put this down, the author has written the plot and characters well.

This is true escapism with magic and intrigue thrown into the melting plot. The story leaves you wondering what happens next so I will be looking out for the next book in the series- cannot wait.

Enjoyable! :)

This has a very interesting story. Definitely going to read the next book because I want to see how the characters would develop. I honestly don't like Darius (he might be more likeable in the next book, maybe...?) but I want to know what happens to this kid. (I reaaaaally like Mezar.) There might be some parts that need minor editing. I think I may be a little old for this book. But I would recommend it to people slightly younger.

Teenage boy in a fantasy land suddenly develops magical powers, and also just so happens to secretly be, unbeknownst to him and almost everyone else, (view spoiler). Then there's the obligatory magical-protagonist-becomes-bestest-warrior-of-all training camp thing, an ancient prophecy, a halfbaked rebellion fronted by a religious nutcase cardboard villain, a romance subplot (or two, because Mr Awesome is also very quick to forget about the girl he supposedl ...more

This is one of those books that is bogged down by too many words, over explanation of the world, and the need for someone to read it over a couple times to cut out the excess. It is very obvious that Shelton knows a lot about the world, but he wants to explain everything on page immediately rather than letting the reader explore the world as the characters do. The Path Of Destiny (The Cremelino Prophecy Book 1) by Mike Shelton opens with two boys of eighteen, soon to graduate from school. Darius, the key character, is the son the king’s first councillor. Richard San Williams expects his son to behave like a noble but Darius’ friend, Kelln, leads him astray once too often. Trapped in an underground library at their school, in terrifying total darkness, Darius discovers he has the ability to create fire. Cou

This book drew me in right from the beginning. It's a wonderful story about forgotten magic, amongst many other things. Darius is a likable character, although I *am* worried about him -- and I'm worried about Kelln.
The book doesn't exactly end on a cliffhanger, but the story isn't finished, which,of course, leaves me unsatisfied, especially since the sequels aren't available as audio (at least, I couldn't find anything).
This means, I'll have to actually read them. *gasp* -- but I *must* know

The Path of Destiny by Mike Shelton is an interesting high fantasy tale with magic and great characters. I enjoyed the story of two best friends who just graduated and are ready to conquer the world. That is until one of them is chosen by a magic sword, a beautiful horse and can do magic... all in a kingdom that condemns magic users.
The story is a good a fantasy tale and a good read. The author takes the reader together with the characters on a trip of self discovery. As all good high fantasy, t

I enjoyed the story of Darius as he figures out that he has magical abilities and discovers that he has a greater destiny. This book explores the fact that power can change a person, and Darius struggles to become the person he needs to be to help his troubled realm. I found myself disliking Darius as the book progressed, but this is only the first in a series, and hopefully the writer will redeem him! The fantasy world is nicely-developed, and there is a good cast of secondary characters to kee ...more

A good book that keeps you moving through it. I started off liking Darius and Kelln, both different but are great friends who care about each other. The they get drawn into things they don't really want. Then Darius starts things up with another girl who isn't his love. I Started to change my feelings toward him cause he is letting things go to his head and is changing for the worse. Kelln needs to straighten him out! All in all A good story, well worth the read. Good Reading Everyone! ...more

I was asked to read this for an honest review. I really like the fantasy involved with this book. I love the time period it was set in, the medieval ages. I love that period of time with kings and castles and wizards. So this book had a well written plot and was exciting. I did find it a bit strange that he found out he had magic in the first few pages of the book. But it was a good young adult fantasy book. I believe there's a second book so the end leaves you wanting more.

Imaginative and epic read. The author does an excellent job with world and character building. Although it is a work of fantasy, the story touches on real world issues such as prejudice. While it is a novel geared towards young adults, adults who like the fantasy genre will love this novel. I can't wait to read the next installment. ...more

I am torn about this book. I started out liking it, even allowing for logical fallacies such as how someone sent to get something quite large and conspicuous for the king could sneak another on board a ship. Then another person who shouldn't have had the "something" could parade about the countryside without anyone asking questions. (I'm trying to not give away a major plot line.)

The book starts out following three young adults. Christine, Darius, and Kelln in the beginning of the book are quite

Mike Shelton is a new author for me, but based on his The Path Of Destiny (The Cremelino Prophecy Book 1), I’m promising myself that we will become well acquainted. As the book’s blurb notes, this book is designed for those who “love magic, sword & Sorcery, arthurian style books, and wizards”. Thats me, so no surprise that I found this novel to be, quite simply, wonderful. This tale had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot. Darius San Williams, the lead here, is perfectl ...more

Not bad 3.5 Stars. I enjoyed a lot of the characters, especially at the beginning. However, the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, I realize there are loose ends that will continue on in the next book, but it seems if Darius is changing his character to a power hungry guy who will determine what is right and wrong and completely giving up on the girl they spent the first half of the book proving he was in love with no matter the odds. As the main character, I’m not sure that I still li ...more

These characters wasted no time spirally down this epic tale! I found myself wavering back and forth about whether or not I like Darius, which I imagine was done purposely by this author. Another brilliant twist in this tale is the unsurity of which pairs of characters should end up together. It seems deception is heavily at play but the truth is yet to be revealed. The rift between father and son does not seem to be getting any better at this point either. I absolutely love a

The was a wonderful story to read and a fabulous debut novel by Mike Shelton. His command of language instills his characters and his world with a very relatable reality. His characters are very well developed and real and you become involved in their stories from the beginning. He makes you care about them. This is a fast paced book that keeps you turning pages throughout! They are full of suspense and the excitement keeps you going. Can't wait for the next book!

Mike was born in California and has lived in multiple states from the west coast to the east coast. He cannot remember a time when he wasn't reading a book.
