A gilded cage is still a cage.

From the womb, she was owned. Shula Kelley was signed away before her first breath, just like everyone else in secessionist Texas. She was called beautiful like it meant something important. Like it would get her a kind husband, or one less cruel. She hoped Jared Agnesson was kind.

And the devil you know is still the devil.

**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**

This series really had me thinking about what times used to be like, because it sounded like this was based in the ancient times. The times when men ruled and women would just bow their heads and listen to their husbands. I sure as heck wouldn't have liked living in that era, but we get to see a glimpse of what it was like before.

This series focuses on sins of James and his sons. He ruled his sons' worlds and he dictated

This book is a collection of all of the Sins of Lethe about the Agnesson Family set in the future - 2250 - where Texas is a separatist state. John Agnesson has trained his son James to be the next ruler of Agnes Oaks, Texas where instead of forward thinking as you would expect in the future everything has gone back in time here. Women have almost no rights whatsoever and are not even given an education. James having five sons whom all have women betrothed to them is where things get interesting. ...more

This is a beautifully written, unique book with all kinds of interesting twists and turns. It takes place in Texas in 2280, 250 years after Texas has seceded from the United States and become it's own country. Women are subjugated, marriages arranged at birth or before, and the population is largely extremely religious. There are several characters whose stories intertwine and it's very erotic, compelling and provocative in varying ways. There's rough sex, m/f, m/m and m/m/f, so beware if that's ...more

DNF at 14%.

There's a chance this book gets better. All the rave reviews on here seem to imply it does. But I just don't have the patience or the stomach to get there.

Sex Scenes: -1 star
First off, I just can't stomach a descriptive scene involving necrophilia, especially if it's the first sex scene in the book. Even if it involved the main villain and your goal was to disgust the reader, there are so many other ways to hint at this rather than outright describing it.

I really liked this entire series but I gotta say it was a little all over the place and bit confusing. I had a hard time figuring out who was talking during conversations. Also, the author introduced so many characters and for what seems like no reason at all. They didn't add to the story, there was no purpose or leed into another section. Just a bit all over the place.

What I liked was how horrible the psychopath in the story was! I had the creeps big time and was left wanting a sho

Shula, Jared, Clara, Jude, and Raphe

This is over the top debauchery. This is dark, dirty, violent, and depraved, but above all, intelligent and frightening. I loved it and I am still reeling. Men who crave power and use religious fanaticism to achieve their status is nothing new. Arden Aoide brings it front and center unapologetically and she definitely twangs my darker side. And then there is the mystery side of this book, so intriging, I couldn't put it down. Such smart writing. I recommen

Covet Not includes six stories about sins committed by people raised under the rule of John Agnesson who trained his son James Agnesson to become the next generation ruler of Agnes Oaks, Texas. Texas was known as a notoriously anti-sexual freedom state. James and his father believed in arranged marriages providing brides for all his sons in order to control the Agnesson heritage. James had five sons: Jacob, Jonah, Josiah, Jared, and Jude. James thought having sons would allow control over Agnes ...more

Initially published as a series of novellas titled Sins of Lethe, Covet Not: The Complete Sins of Lethe by Arden Aoide has been edited and republished as a standalone novel.

I read the Sins of Lethe novellas as they were originally published, and I have to say that reading the re-edited, standalone version is much better. There is no waiting for the next installment, and the story flows better in this new version.

This is not Tame. This is not Ancient Hunger. It is something completely different.

Set in 2250, Texas has seceded from the United States, and is a country of its own. Women have been pushed back to their role from the very early years of our country; discouraged from learning and reading. They are controlled. And those who live in Texas are told that the United States and those who reside there are sinners of the worst kind.

This is the story of Shula, just turned 18 years

This series is insanely good. I couldn't put it down and I stayed up all night to finish it. HFS!!! Imagine the future but instead of progress within the human race they have regressed. Women are considered property and only good for breeding, cleaning, and taking care of their husbands. Fathers sell you off to the highest bidder for marriage or as a breeder. Meet Shula who is betrothed to a monster that is old enough to be her father and has outlived two wives. Shula refuses to go down without

This is a collection of 6 stories in the sins of let he series. The series touches different sins as well as side stories about politics. It's complicated and it's long lol..Not even going there..You need to read it..
What I will say is that I not only enjoy the style of this author, but the contents..first of all imagine a world gone mad, well even worse than it is now..just going backwards instead of forward..that's the best way I can explain. Archaic rules back and cruelty an everyday oc

The description warns that this book is dark and disturbing and disturbing it is. It's basically about James Agnesson and his five sons. It takes place in a future Texas that has separated from the rest of the states and follows its own sets of rules and laws. James has raised his sons according to his personal interpretation of the bible and arranged their marriages before their birth. He is obsessed with the importance of breeding the best grandchildren and does horrible things to get what he ...more

I've followed this series for over a year now, and those new to Aoide's writing are lucky to get the full story in one amazing edition. Set in a futuristic world in which Texas has once again gained independence- seceding from the wicked, sinful United States. Controlled by a select group of white, male native Texan founding fathers, women have reverted back to the property of men, with no education and no control over who they marry or how they are used for the men's pleasure or power. A twisted, heartbreaking, unique, and strangely interesting story of futuristic sovereign country named Texas, complete with a wall, breeding farms to ensure the purity of the white race, and complete submission by women. This "utopian" society is ruled by the iron fist of ultra conservative Christian, leader James Agnession. A society where women are betrothed at birth, sexual expression is taboo, and any deviation results in incarceration or death. However..."Nothing was as it seemed."

Its futuristic, happening in Texas who broke away from the country . All women when they turn 18 must get Wed to the highest bidder, and become there slave. This girl is tough though, she's more then meets the eye for sure! She was to marry Jared one who she prayed would be a gentle kind husband, but for payback his father married her ...more

This series is one of my favourites and seri round I've only reread 2 series before this is one of them no standalone's only ever reread this series and 1 other. That's how good it is I don't have the time to reread there are far to many unread books out there to reread but this series deserved my time.

So Covet Not takes place in future Texas ( not my normal cup of tea ). Agnes Oaks is where most of the action takes place it's an old money town where And the things that happen in t

Covet Not is all six stories in the Sins of Lethe series. This series is set in future Texas after the state has seceded from the US and follows the Agnesson family.

This story explores sexual repression and then freedom from those ideals. I loved Jude and Jared's stories and how they planned to free themselves from their father's tyrannical ways and get vengeance for the wrongs he has done to them. I could have done without the side stories about the politics and I felt that there wa

I received an ARC of Covet Not a few weeks before its release. I read this book by piecemeal for three days because this was a lengthy read and I wanted to enjoy all the six stories fully. The Agnesson brothers were very memorable characters and I was hooked, so this was absolutely worth the reading hours spent.

This series gives me goosebumps it is so good. I will re-read this series many times in the future. What a cautionary tale for today even though it is set in the future. Mississippi's "Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act" shows us how Texas seceding from USA to practice religious fundamentalism could happen. Absolutely amazing! One of my favorite books by far! I was intrigued by the synopsis, I read for hours, I was submerged in the many different characters and their lives. Feelings of angst, heartbreak, love, devotion, loneliness, revenge, loyalty and so much more. The relationships that were forced, but true love was made. The loyalty to family but the hatred towards some. A dark, twisted, unfathomable story of a family in Texas, in the future, where things have completely changed and gone backwa ...more

Covet Not: The Complete Sins of Lethe by Arden Aoide is a collection of six stories set in the future. The six stories combine to form a complex, twisted, dark, and erotic novel that definitely drag you in. The stories follow James Agnesson, the villain of this epic novel, and his five sons: Jared, Jude, Josiah, Jonah, and Jacob. Covet Not is futuristic story. That is based in the year 2250 in Texas.
The world as we know has changed as we know it. Im not going to give out spoilers here!
I will say that Arden Aoide lead us on a mental journey of epic proportions. It was dark and mentally draining at times. Plus the book is rather long. Yet it was so worth the loss of sleep.

Original idea. Thought provoking. This is not your casual read while you are multi-tasking. The three taboo social topics sex, politics and religion are the main event.

This is not a standalone. The ending is not a cliffhanger but it does leave you hanging. I was left confused and dazed. Don’t let this deter you from this great book. I just know I will have to reread the ending before I start the next book.

The year is 2280. Texas has long since seceded from the union and that has gone exactly how you would imagine. (I'm betting Trump was their first president). There are many interesting characters and one evil genius. The story is great, easily 4.5 stars, but I was a bit let down by the ending. I wanted to know more! Not every characters' story was wrapped up. Will there be more??
Also, just a disclaimer: if you, ahem, blush easily this probably isn't for you.

WoW!! This story held onto me and didn't let go until long after the ending!! I felt that I was reading a piece of heartbreaking history.. Repression of the utmost degree toward women. Very interesting intense storyline. The ending makes me wonder if there will be more to this.
