At the core of Sisterhood is a message of value and a genuine desire for women to "unite in friendship and cause" in order to bring hope where hope has been lost. The spirit of Sisterhood is seen and felt in the fervent prayer of thousands of girls who faithfully uphold nations where injustice and darkness rage out of control. It is seen and felt in young women being inspired by the wisdom and grace of their mothers and the women ahead of them in this journey of life. It is seen and felt in the relentless networking of everyday girls in their local neighborhoods and in places of influence as they raise awareness and find solutions for the suffering, forgotten, and abused of this world. The Sisterhood is a story of God's daughters on the earth, changing their "here and now" and looking to the future with expectation that God can and will use them to make a difference.
This book is a must read for every woman who wants to make a change in the world. It is so encouraging and empowering. I don't read Non-Fiction on a regular basis but Bobbie Houston's story and the journey that the Sisterhood has been on is totally fascinating and inspiring. Mixed in with some hilarious banter, Bobbie Houston paints a beautiful picture of the value and purpose of women in our society. We can achieve so much more than we often believe - especially if we do it together! It really reignited something in me to keep standing up against injustice and poverty and I love how this book highlights that the local church, and the women in it, can be part of the solution to these problems that sometimes can seem way to big to overcome. But I love that we don't have to do it on our own. Girl, get yourself this book! Let it encourage and empower you. And I promise you that sometimes you will burst out laughing as you turn the page because of some of the stories in it. It's so worth your time!
Loved it. It's like sitting down in this woman's lounge room and having a cup of tea while she talks about the journey of the Sisterhood and Colour Conference. The stories are laugh out loud funny, yet she is poignantly deep and personal, addressing critical matters close to the heart of the sisterhood and to the reader themselves. Would definitely read again and I can't wait to pass it on to others to drink of the wisdom of a 20 year journey of this wise and wonderful woman.
I really enjoyed this book. Bobbie's heart for women is so genuine and I felt my heart catch some of that spirit reading this book. Recommend for anyone interested in women's ministry and all women in the church.
This book was actually life changing. The light brought to so many issues in the world left you aching to do something. Bobbies heart and spirit comes across in retelling her journey as she has stayed true to her own voice and passionate convictions. The story of the sisterhood will inspire and educated you to flourish in your own walk of life and instill hope and purpose for the future. This book is one to be read again and again and will make you wish there was a sisterhood gathering near you!
One of the most phenomenal book I read this year. I was touched beyond words can describe. It resounded with me and reminded me of things God spoke to me. Bless You Lord and thank you maám. Love you, Love your heart.... I AM SISTERHOOD
Maybe I missed the point of this book but I felt like it was a large advertisement for Colour Conference. There were some good points that Bobbie makes and I enjoyed the last few chapters.
I got this book over 2 years ago, but hadn’t gotten around to it until now, and I think that was some sort of divine providence. How prophetic was this! It came out in 2016, and Bobbie talks about this powerful move of women changing the world—I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the Women’s March and #MeToo came so soon after this book was published. I’m not sure if those were the movements Bobbie had in mind, but I believe they’re the God-driven, lines in the sand, the buck stops here movements she talks about. On the actual book, it feels that she’s talking right to you over a cup of coffee; she is so funny, so it was a joy to spend this time with her.
Love it! Bobbie takes the reader on a beautiful journey of discovery of the heart of God - the way He sees every single one of us & what part he’d like us to play in this world. Her words are poetic yet speaking so clear and truthful. She doesn’t shrink back from opening our eyes to the real problems and challenges in the world helping us to be aware and showing us how to act accordingly. I enjoyed reading this book so much and it has definitely changed me, challenged me, and answered some of my questions.
This book has been incredible. It's not a passive story of how a women's conference started. It's a radical testimony of the kindness of God, it's about social justice and radical women having hearts to love those and stand in the gap. It's extremely encouraging, inspiring and has helped me to think globally. I love the prayer map idea and holding nations in your heart. I love the personal experiences and descriptions....it really made me feel like I was there and my heart broke with compassion.
I have to admit it's better than anything her husband has written. However, it's still not great. Like most 'christian living' books aimed at women, the constant repetition of the Proverbs 31 woman is at the forefront of almost every chapter. I hope one day christians will throw women a bone and find another chapter.
I thought this might just be an encouraging read – which it was, ever so much – but it was also challenging and convicting in its message to care for women in need, such as those who have been trafficked. Houston has a lovely voice that is humorous, nurturing, and inspiring.
This is a book that stays with you for a little while after you've finished reading it, but it's well worth it. It's wonderful that people can still come together to inspire change as well as be change - and I hope that this is one organisation that is around for a long time to come.
A must read. Wether you are a man or a woman, a christian or a non Christian, a passionate for social justice or just curious : please read this book. It is about one woman that God spoke to. It is about the heart of God on injustices of the world. Please, do yourself a favour and read this book.
This book was good. You take a way an awareness of the wide spread issue of human trafficking around the world and Hillsong's involvement in helping the women effected.
Its an OK story. I didn't find it to be super inspirational for me. Like running out And joining a group or starting one. But I'm glad there are people that are moved to do stuff like this.
Bobbie is such a blessing for Womanhood. She is inspiring and tells her journey about creating a Community for Women and realising the potential we have as women, to make this world a better place.
“If enough of us were to flourish and excel in compassion and kindness, then the world would be less wounded and broken.”-Bobbie Houston
You were created for this moment in time. It’s no mistake that you are here. And in this beautiful book by Bobbie Houston, readers are reminded of all that is possible when we encounter the love of our mighty God. Her words are spoken with authority and authenticity. Her heart for God, for people, and for the church is evident with every story shared and every chapter. Above all, she invites us all to stand up, stand together, and stand for each other in the fight for humanity vs. shrinking back and settling for less than God’s very best for our lives.
“Whether the nation we live in is categorized as ‘developed’ or ‘developing’ isn’t the issue-brokenness is brokenness, abandonment is abandonment, abuse is abuse.”-Bobbie Houston
We are all connected in more ways than one and “The Sisterhood” is a shining light of what is possible when we make ourselves available to a God who specializes in the impossible. This book is a date with one of your most fabulous girlfriends who has this gift of leaving you and all the lives she encounters, better off and more alive.
“So wherever life takes you and whatever life deals you, don’t forget to smile upward. It delights heaven, unlocks your heart, makes a way for his goodness, and irritates the pants off the devil. And if it is within your power (which it is, sweetheart), live life magnificently. Your example will inspire and bear fruit that will reach far into eternity.”-Bobbie Houston
Pick your favorite sweet tea or a cup of coffee and curl up in a comfortable chair outside as you get ready to read the heart and soul of Bobbie Houston as she brings power to the heart of every woman in "The SISTERHOOD." Bobbie invites every reader to explore their beliefs about God, themselves, what shapes their beliefs and the world around them. I love his this book challenged me to grow in my gifts, reach far beyond my potential and look for greater possibilities.
This book has moments that touch your soul, moments that ask you to stand bold, ones that will make you cry and others that will make you laugh. Whatever you get from reading "The SisterHood" will be life giving and life changing all in one. Bobbie writes with a style of authenticity, wisdom, and an invitation, you can help but feel compelled to do something rather than sitting around, doing what you've already been doing.
She makes it very clear that the lives we touch with the here and now; impact Eternity and sitting on our hiney isn't doing a thing, for anyone. This book will make you feel empowered because her passion will ignite something in you that may have been dead for a long time. I highly recommend this book and want to thank Faith Words for providing me an ARC copy for my honest review. I give this book 5/5 stars.

An inspired history of the impact of Hillsong Church's Colour Your World Women's Conference since its inception 20 years ago. A movement of women who want to change their world through prayer and social action in their own neighbourhood and around the world.
One of Bobbie's catch cries is "you were created for a time such as this" ... there is so much we can do in a world that is so much in need of God's love. It was a great read and very inspirational. One of the things I admire about Bobbie is the way she humbly makes injustice's known and then leaves it to God ... there is no guilt trip, just encouragement. And there is no pressure to join her church, rather the opposite - to go back to your home church and flourish where you have been placed.
The concept was so interesting and to know that she was the pastor of Hillsong was even more exciting. I found the book to be a little dry for my taste, but for others it could be found to be milk for the new Christians. It is interesting and a great concept, I just wish she made it a little more enthusiastic - GOD is enthusiastic - Praise HIM - which is a little shocking coming from Hillsong. She talks a lot about a movement but not how to bring it about - how exciting that could be - how amazing - I want that book to be exciting - I was rooting for her - but I was just a little disappointed, but I want to express to you deeply - that is just MY OPINION - for others this will be a wonderful book - I promise. I received this book so I could to give an honest review
I read this amazing book in one sitting. I simply couldn't put it down! Bobbie's narrative voice is so real and authentic. It's very her--funny(oh my goodness, the "cleavage offering"!), seriously inspiring and passionate about seeing people whole and healthy. A beautiful story of placing value on women and how something that started with such a humble beginning has now changed so many countless lives. I'm so blessed to have been part of this global Sisterhood and it has renewed my passion to be "my sister's keeper".
Bobbie writes the story of how Hillsong Colour evolved from a Christian womens get together in the burbs in western Sydney to a global movement of women teaching women that they are loved by God and valued beyond measure. She is so cool. You will want to play your part in the Sisterhood after reading this book.
I was given this book as a gift and kept putting off reading, not really sure why. Power outage and being sick gave me the opportunity to read this book finally. I was pleasantly surprised, I love the passion and desire of these women to bring not only Christ's word into the lives of women but also to live out the love of Christ by making a difference where we are at. I'm glad I read it.
A very hilarious and encouraging mini bio on Bobbie and the birth of Sisterhood and Colour Conference. I do adore Pastor Bobbie and her team that work so hard to influence their world while encouraging us to do the same. Her humor comes across in her writing which I really enjoyed. Easy and quick read.
