This book utilizes a checklist system for working through the wedding tasks. It is VERY dated - I kept reading because it was so entertaining. For instance, I learned that gloves are not appropriate for a home wedding and the rules for monograms on your sheets and personal stationery. It also seemed geared more to upper-middle-class suburbanites - you can ask if your club has facilities for a reception. :) Recommended by a friend who swears by the list system. I read in one evening and did come away with a handful of ideas to talk about with my daughter.
Unexpectedly delightful! Read more as cultural anthropology than a practical guide, but it could honestly be pretty useful! Charming deprecations of ushers and insistence on timely guest list creation provide bits of humour in what it otherwise a very kind-hearted, open-minded guide. Lovely way to pass an afternoon with a friend who is getting married.
I looked at a lot of books before the wedding, and this one was the most useful format for me. But I was never very interested in wedding planning, and left most of it to the Spouse and my mom and his mom.
