For your maximum enjoyment and safety, be sure to carry an up-to-date hiking guide while on the trails -- Great Sedona Hikes, Revised Fourth Edition.
This is a useful trail guide to over 30 trails in and around Sedona, AZ. The Sedona area boasts one of the best hiking areas in the country with a network of trails that can transport you from city to wilderness almost instantly. The authors have done a nice job of collating and indexing trails by difficulty, natural and anthropological features, and even shade and mud. Each trail gets a summary, hiking distance and time, popularity (likelihood of being crowded), how to get to the trailhead, succinct trail descriptions, and maps with elevation profiles. In addition, the guide lists some ideas for scenic drives in the area.
Great Sedona Hikes does a lot of things well for a trail guide, the best part being to get you on the trails quickly. We used it as a quick download after arriving in town to help us know where to go. It is certainly not an exhaustive guide to trails in the area. I strongly recommend a topographic map for safety and to show other trails and options for linking hikes in the book.
Note: My review is based on the 4th Edition. The authors have since updated to at least a fifth edition, which may cover more trails.
