A note from the author:
Thanks for visiting my Goodreads page.
I wanted to tell something meaningful about myself, but let's start with the important stuff--I love swoon-worthy heroes. The kind of heroes that are strong and would take a bullet for you, but also want to open your door and listen to you pour out your heart.
What else? I grew up moving. If you’ve read my books, you won’t be surprised by this. I have a lot of moving themes through my books centered around characters experiencing pain from someone moving.
It was hard. But, I believe there’s always a seed of good that comes out of everything hard, so I think the best thing that came from it was that I learned to love books.
And I had to learn a lot of mad skills on friend making. It gave me a love of people…good people, compassionate people. Interesting people of all kinds.
What else about me? I am a mother and wife! I have four amazing boys that are like little ninjas running around. I love them so much and I’m so grateful for my amazing husband who doesn’t get intimidated by all the billionaire men in my life.
I have a fierce love of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for Him and for the healing and forgiveness I’ve gotten to experience in my life. This is a theme in many of my books.
I love being an American. I am so proud of the men and women that support and preserve our freedom. This is another theme you will find in my books.
I am so grateful for my fans and for the support and love you all show me! Don’t stop reading!
If you like football stars going incognito, Jackson Hole, River rafting, Horses, Ranches, stories of healing, witty and flirty banter and lots more, then I think you'll enjoy this sweet romance from Taylor Hart.
I turned this on to listen to it for a few minutes as I got some work done and when I ran out of listening time I couldn't believe how far I had gotten, and how much I didn't want to turn it off. I really liked the main characters, Cam and Kat. Two characters that are both healing from their past wounds. Some wounds, emotional, some mental, some from childhood and some just as recent as losing a loved one. As they come together in several different scenes at the beginning, there is a lot of hesitancy on Kat's part. She has quite the backstory and current happenings going on in her life that make it, well, complicated.
Cam has never met someone like Kat and so that instantly draws his attention back to her over and over again. He should just leave well enough alone but can't seem to get her off of his mind. When a rafting trip, an accident and emotions all come into play, the sparks fly leaving these two characters trying to figure out what they really want in life and whether the other will play into those goals/dreams or not.
I really have enjoyed the Last Play series and have almost read/listened to all the books. This is a companion to the Last Play series and the start of a new series about Bachelor Billionaires. We meet the other Bachelors in this series and I like the direction that the author is going with the group and their goals in coming together and forming friendships. Should be another fun series.
Content: Clean. Some kissing but nothing further. A boyfriend wants to move in with a girlfriend but she refuses and doesn't want any sexual relations until after marriage.
I won an audiobook copy from a drawing that the author did. Woot Woot!
This book kicks off the Bachelor Billionaire series, and is also part of the Last Play series (I haven't read any of the Last Play yet, but felt this one stood well on its own).
Still getting over the loss of his father Cameron Cruz, quarterback for the Denver Storm, buys a new home in Jackson Hole to try and regroup and hide out from his fans. He's pleasantly surprised when he meets the beautiful Kat Foster and she doesn't recognize him. Getting to know her as just a normal guy is a novelty for him. Kat is in a on-again off-again relationship and has escaped to Jackson Hole to work on her dissertation and try and figure her life out. She can't help her attraction to Cam and how he makes her feel.
This was fun light read, I liked the characters and setting. I'm not a huge fan of situations like Kat where she's already in a relationship, but her boyfriend was a jerk so I didn't mind as much. I've read a couple other books in this series, out of order, so it was fun reading this first one and getting more of a background on the characters.
Content Romance: Clean, just kissing Language: None Violence: None Religious: Secular Series: Bachelor Billionaire, Book One
I think this one might just be my favorite of the series. I really loved it. Flirty, fun, easy reading. The characters were so likable and the sparks were a flyin'. It was perfect for the mood I was in. I'm always a bit giddy when I see a new book by Taylor Hart- especially in this Last Play series. She is an author who writes stories just like I like them. It was the perfect little escape for me today. :)
Second String: Book 5 Last Play Romance Series: A Bachelor Billionaire Companion: The Last Play Series is by Taylor Hart. This series is great as it looks at the characteristics that make a person great. This book looks at kindness and selflessness and caring for others. Cameron Cruz is the quarterback for the Denver Storm. However, right now, he is hiding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He had come here to take a break and to deal with the death of his father. While here, he had purchased a small acreage in his sister’s name. He wanted to stay hidden while he was here. He had been very close to his Father and needed time to recuperate and knew he couldn’t do it on the ranch where his sister lived with her family and their father. Then he went looking for things for her family to do when they came here to visit. He decided on river rafting. He decided he needed to try it, with the cute girl as his guide. Kat Foster was working at the guide shop her Grandfather had begun. The young couple who owned the place were happy to have her working for them. After all, she knew the business. She had taken a house-sitting job for her shelter, she had her job, and she had her dissertation to write. She was setting out to prove that being back in nature helped children to deal with any problems they had. Now she had to find a way to prove it. Then she meets Cameron and things go haywire for her. When will the carousel stop?

Shorter novel (a little longer than a novella). Romance, clean Loved this story! Cameron trying to hide who he is from Katherine, and trying to win her over from the man she has idolized, and was engaged to, but is taking a break from. His genuine kindness, of course their attraction to each other, the honest interactions (outside of him not really telling her who he really was), made for a cute story. First string famous quarterback, who meets a genuine woman who is the real thing, and not swayed by his fame. Loved his honest help with her charity work that she wants to do to complete her education. The good that people can do when they work together (his wealthy neighbors pooling together to help others and with Katherine identifying the need) was a fun way for them to come together with their 'real' and sincere feelings and attraction for each other. Cute fun read as always. The books in this series mention other characters in other novels, but can be read as stand alone reads.
Nothing fake here. Great clean romance at it's best!
This is my first read from this author, and it won't be my last. The characters were so relatable, endearing, and hilarious! The romance was tender, and passionate, but not steamy. Passionate because the feelings were real, not blouse busting risque. On a steaminess level I would rate this a warm PG. This book is definitely worthy of a repeat read!
**Update 11/28/2018: I just realized that there is a sequel to this story called..."The Midnight Groom: Last Play Christmas Romances" also written by Taylor Hart. It don't think I am ready to read that just after finishing this fantastic story, but good to know it exists.
All through this story you wonder who is really hiding the truth? The guy? The girl? The girls not-so-fake fiancé? I liked how well this showed that cocky men are really just frightened boys.
I really enjoyed this book. This is a sweet ending to this series and I'm excited to continue another series connected with this one. She is a sweet love story, fun writing other. Pulls at your emotions with realism. Pure enjoyment.
Taylor Hart is one of my favorite authors. The romance is clean and fun, the characters are real and lovable, and the setting is beautiful. I would highly recommend this book and all of her books.
This was the second Taylor Hart book I picked up, and the first that endeared me to the Billionaire Groom series, which I am currently working through. This book has been renamed 'The Football Groom' from its original title. If you are looking for reviews on this story, this is the link to connect to the original listing on goodreads : https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Cameron is hiding from the media and Jackson Hole, Wy seems the place to do it. Why not I say, its a fabulous place. While he is there he comes across Katherine, who is steadily working in what was her Grandfather's river trips business - but now belongs to someone else. Its her love and passion and her dream to also one day get back the ranch that was once also in the family. Cameron has the money and means to make her dreams come true, but she is just irritated and annoyed by his presence. He's determined and will use whatever ways he can to worm his way into her good books. Including that of his high powered billionaire friends in Jackson. This is where we are introduced to the group of guys that will follow on in this series.
I liked that Katherine did not know who Cameron was for most of the story. I love the river guiding segments. This books combines many of my favourite things to create an almost perfect story. 4.5 stars.
Clean, romance that gives you the feels in all the right places - this book is a good way to start if you have never read a Taylor Hart book. If you have Kindle Unlimited, then all of her books are free to read on Amazon. Either way, they are worth the read even if you don't have KU.
Can I just start off by saying that I absolutely love this series?! I have read almost all of them and every time that I get a new one I feel giddy inside! I have been reading them out of order, so good news everyone, the can be read that way.
"Second String (Last Play #5)" by Taylor Hart was completely outstanding! I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this novel, and I really enjoyed the characters and the story line they shared. I must admit, this one was a little different then the others that I have read; however, it was just as good with the way football was not the main focus.
Everyone wants to have a life without unbelievable expectations, no one wants to constantly be 'on point' all day everyday. Cameron Cruz, the male lead, felt this way as he sought to escape the media light and attention that being the All-American brought his way. Enter in the picture, Katherine Foster, the one girl who had no idea who Cruz was and did not matter what his fame could bring her way.
Life always has an interesting way of working itself out. Things happen everyday that cannot be helped, secrets will always be brought into the light. I haven't read any of the other series by Ms. Taylor, but if they are even half as good as this one is- I know that they will be great.
This was the second Taylor Hart book I picked up, and the first that endeared me to the Billionaire Groom series, which I am currently working through. This book has been renamed 'The Football Groom', which is am more appropriate place to put this story in my opinion. See that link here : https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

The Football Groom was fast paced and kept me engaged. There was so many stories going on but the threads connected at the end although the story ended too abruptly for me. The excerpt at the end of the book, The Midnight Groom, only whet my appetite for more.
Kat and Cam have nothing in common, or do they? They meet where she works when he comes in to set up a rafting trip with a guide. Their attraction is immediate but he's incognito and doesn't want to be recognized for his fame and she's a nerd going for her PhD and writing her dissertation. There are other characters we meet and while all are important to the story Kat and Cam carry it. While we get to know them better their interactions never wavered no matter what emotions were evoked. They both have layers to them that are just starting to rise to the top.
The story flowed well but I didn't like Kat's boyfriend, Steven, at all. He was definitely secretive and didn't treat Kat as an adult. He was so condescending and all about himself. There was some romance and ultimately love along with lots of family, some friends, their day to day living, tears, arguments, sadness, reminisces, getting to know you moments, lies, secrets, laughter and adventure. There was a happily ever after in the offing but too much seemed to be left out of the story. I can only hope that I'll learn more when I read the other books in this series as well as others that are connected. I have added some of the books to my always growing TBR pile.
Ms. Hart is a new to me author and I look forward to reading more of her books.
Unfortunately, I didn't like this one much. I found the h to be a very weak character in the sense that she was easily influenced by others. The characters and plot needed a lot more development. Not too much happened.
What I liked: 1) It was a clean book. No sex or foul language. 2) The h did have her values and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, she let others control and manipulate her. 3) The writing was engaging.
What I didn't like: 1) The issue with her mother is resolved so easily. 2) Not much happened. I don't mind quiet books where the MCs get to know one another and slowly fall in love. But this was pretty boring. 3) The lying, while I understand from Cam's perspective, was pretty annoying. 4) The issue of the "toys" in Cameron's past was never addressed. 5) No epilogue.
Spoiler...Disappointed after reading the excerpt at this end!
Spoilers....don’t go any further unless you don’t care about spoilers
I enjoyed this story until I read the excerpt at the end of this book for the next chapter of this couple. How can you get us invested in the H/h only to kill off the h in his next book and have another heroine. I get this happens in real life but come on...I read stories like this for the romance not for the reality. If I had known this would have happened, I wouldn’t have wasted my time reading this story. I can assure I will never read another of this authors’ books.
Ok that was pretty cute towards the end. I wish we would have gotten more of Roman and Sam in this book beides the name drop of Legend and the Destroyer's. I mean Cam just kind of came out of no where in this group, yeah he plays football but he would have been neat if he had played with them or was friends with them. Looking forwards to Montana's and Hunter's stories just because I want to see if they bring back Kat's camp for inner cities kids, would like to read more about that.
4.5 Stars! I really liked this one - a lot! This is the kind of novel that gives you those giddy vibes. I enjoyed the characters, along with the fun banter and chemistry between them. The storyline was interesting and had me rapidly going through the pages. A fun and quick read! * Note, I would consider this longer than your average novella and shorter than a full length novel.
I feel like I didn't read the same book as every else reviewing here! I did not feel the same at all!
Kat (h) got a little better at the book went on, but quite frankly, she started out so poorly with me that she just never really improved to "likeable". I mean right from the beginning - I'm sorry, but she's a tour guide and is about to spend 3 hrs in a canoe with this person, and she doesn't even introduce herself? He has to practically beg for her name?? Was she planning on a silent 3 hr morning? What sort of guide is she??? A really bad one, that's what! I've been rafting multiple times with guided companies (and rock climbing too, and have had friends who've worked as kayak guides, and so on - I'm an outdoorsy bookworm). It is perfectly possible to be friendly and professional and not flirtatious. What she was being was bitchy. From there on out, she was less bitchy but was just weak. Yes, she stuck to her convictions about sex and about what she wanted with her program, but she let everyone's words spin her around over and over again. For someone in their mid-20s, in a PhD program, and who's done lots of therapy for personal issues, she was pretty self-unaware and spineless.
Cam really couldn't take no for an answer at the beginning. I mean, she had to slap him because he wasn't backing off. He did improve to "likeable" by the end of the novel, learning to hold back and accept what she was working through emotionally, but it was still a rough beginning. With that on top of Kat the Bitchy River Guide, I almost had a DNF at about 15%. I had to make myself stick it out. Still, he got better, and though he avoided the truth and omitted key details about himself, he still had some sweet moments and was growing on me.
The whole introduction of the other Junto members felt stilted and forced. "Here's this eclectic collection of billionaires. Let's introduce them and their professional, media-friendly highlights!" I know that it sets up the next several books in the series, but it really screamed "Obvious Plot Device."
The ending felt really rushed. Plus no epilogue. I mean, Although we had to put up with all her dithering back and forth about feeling things for Cam vs Steven, we got no satisfaction of her actually deciding to stand up for herself and make a choice. And then after 20-some years of not communicating effectively with her mother, all's easily resolved with a 5 sentence conversation? Overall, just a really rushed and less-than-satisfying ending.
I'll be honest, and say that the love triangle/questionable cheating aspect did not work in the story's favor. Some people love the triangles. I hate them. Steven wasn't a huge presence in the story (mostly there in an abstract, "I have a boyfriend" sort of way), but it's still not a story set-up I enjoy. Too close to home personally (triangles suck), plus the heroines always feel very dithery and spineless since they won't make a decision. And like I said, we didn't even get to see Kat make her decision.
And a final, completely petty and nitpicking point, but the Master's program "at Cambridge in London"? Umm, Cambridge is in Cambridge, about an hour outside of London. No one would consider it "in London." If it was a program through the University of Cambridge but in London (site work, etc) there were other ways to word that sentence.
Still there were some good points:
Cam did have some very sweet moments. Clean, Christian romance, without beating you over the head with the religious aspect. Standalone. Free find on Kindle. Fairly well written and edited (though, like I said, the Obvious Plot Device was a little annoying).
Overall, though, not going to reread and have no interest in future books in the series.
Taylor Hart writes fun romance that usually involves a football star hero or a billionaire hero and a down-to-earth girl-next-door heroine. I've read the first two books in her Last Play series about football players finding love and this is currently the last book in that series. This also overlaps with the Bachelor Billionaire series and introduces the reader to the other gentlemen who eventually get their own stories. This book was originally titled "Second String" and is being released with a new title "Football Groom" since it's a segway into the Bachelor Billionaire series.
Taylor Hart writes some seriously funny dialogue between her main characters. The storyline is fun, the plot moves swiftly, and the book is quite easy to read. Her characters are real, flawed, lovable, and engaging. Yes, Cam is a football star and has gazillions of dollars to spend but he's also a man with real emotions, family ties, and a past. Kat is a broken spirit, running away from her hurtful past without really knowing what she wants out of life. There is definitely a strong current of physical attraction between the two, but their relationship is underscored by a growing trust, openness, and vulnerability with each other which added depth.
Now I need to go and blaze through all the other books in the Bachelor Billionaire series as well as catch up with my football stars in the Last Play series!
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a review or a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
I own this book but I listened to the audio version of this book for purposes of this review. The narration was done well and it was fairly easy to distinguish between the many characters "voices".
Chloe had moved to Salt Lake City, Utah from Atlanta, Georgia. She needed a fresh start. Her fiance had been killed in the military and she had learned of his betrayal of her after his death. She had hopes of getting a job with an interior design firm. Her first interview with them went horribly. As she was leaving the business, she ran into a handsome man (Garrett) who wanted to help her so she let him. Amazingly, she was able to get a second interview and was hired. She quickly learned that Garrett had ties to the business run by his older brother, Hank. She began date Garrett but soon became concerned about his possessive nature.
Hank, while handsome, was an austere and cold person; until she got to know him better.
I won't give more of the story away but there is suspense, kidnapping, gambling, jewelry heists, attempted murder and finally a happy ending. Something for everyone!
Really sweet, quick, clean read. Editing was fair to middling.
Cameron is more or less hiding out in Wyoming, dealing with his grief over the loss of his father. He runs into Kat at a river tour company. Cam decides to try out the river tour, hoping Kat will be his guide. They have a great adventure - including Cam having to save Kat's life. Sparks fly, but Kat has a part-time boyfriend and a fake engagement ring. They slowly navigate friendship, while Cam continues to hope to be promoted from second-string boyfriend to first string. Oh, did I mention Cam is starting quarterback for the pro football team in Denver? No? Well, there is that, although Kat has no idea who he is. Of course, things can't go to smoothly, so part-time weasel of a boyfriend shows up and proposes - right in front of Cam. Who will Kat choose? Is it too late for Cam?
This is such a sweet read. Really quick - I read it in a few hours this morning. Enjoy!
4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean novel The Football Groom: Jackson Hole Bachelor Billionaires book 1 by Taylor Hart and this review was given freely. Easy flowing with realistic and down-to-earth characters, this is not your usual fake fiancé story and despite the title, there is no wedding. However, there is the promise of a happy future, and it contains a good introduction to the Jackson Hole billionaire benevolent group Junto. Still grieving after the death of his father, Denver Storm quarterback Cameron Cruz, tries to hide out in his newly purchased retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. However, his persistent twin sister Alicia, a sudden attraction to the grieving Snake River guide, grad-student Katherine Foster, and his wealthy musician neighbor Montana Crew gives him purpose and help him heal.
A sweet hidden identity romance Have you ever wished you could be someone else? That’s what Cameron or Cam wanted. Still reeling from the death of his father and the lack of understanding from his ex-girlfriend, all he wants is quiet time to adjust, rethink, and decide how to move forward. But that can be hard to get when you play pro football. Growing his beard and hair out, along with a baseball cap and sunglasses seems to work, at least in his new home of Jackson Hole. Katherine or Kat thought the man standing before her, scheduling a river rafting trip looked familiar but he said they’d never met and she didn’t recognize his name. But soon they are thrown together time and again. As Kat tries to decide if her current boyfriend is worth the time and effort, Cam appears ready and willing to fill the slot. And do it better. A fun, entertaining read.
