Governor Candace Reid has been in office for just over a month and things have only begun to get interesting. While Candace traverses the state, her wife Jameson traverses the sometimes challenging ground of caring for their three-year-old grandson, Spencer. Life is anything but routine for Candace and Jameson.
An unexpected crisis in New York City will force Candace to confront pieces of her past that she has long sought to bury. Candace attempts to juggle her responsibilities to her chosen position and to a growing family, constantly managing a myriad of personalities and conflicting ideas in every corner of her life. A visit to a women’s shelter introduces Candace to a little boy named, Cooper—an interaction that Candace cannot seem to put out of her mind.
While Candace deals with the realities of being governor, Nana and Mom, Jameson finds that spending time with Spencer and Candace begins to shift her ideas about the future. Jameson will begin to travel an unexpected path herself, hoping to pave the way for her future with Candace.
Through upheavals, questions, loss, disappointment, competing ideas and even arguments, the Fletcher-Reid family always seems to find its feet in a deep devotion to one another. A few nuggets of wisdom from Grandma Pearl, some colorful ideas from spirited children and grandchildren, and a fortune cookie or two will pave the way into the future for Candace and Jameson. At the end of every road, everyone wants to find a place they can call home. Sometimes, that requires just a few Renovations.
It's definitely a rollercoaster. J.A. Armstrong is an awesome author and to say I'm looking forward to the next instalment is an understatement. The rollercoaster not only refers to the story but also the emotions it induces. I've laughed and I've cried. She makes you feel part of it all. It's a very unique gift to have as an author. I love it and I know you will too. Trust me read them all they are addictive.
In this 6th installment, we are witnessing a new direction for JD and a moving revelation for Candace. Just when you thought you knew these characters, JA Armstrong pulls you in unexpected directions.
The depth of these characters just gets better and better. I can personally connect with Candace in this particular story though usually I am a JD fan. Children can be the greatest blessing and the most painful heartache for a mother. There are several relevant issues addressed here, some familial, some societal. In life, there are rarely simple answers. And there is no way to avoid pain or heartbreak, other than closing yourself off from the world. And even then, in the end, you experience the pain and heartbreak of loneliness. It is a part of life that is unavoidable. Some of us figure that out faster than others.
I'm already in love with Cooper, and I share his affection for mac and cheese. LOL I love seeing this family in connection with each other, but still having the conflicts that everyday families have. It's refreshing, and it pulls you into their world. Which is exactly what I want from a book.
I can't wait to see where we go next in the series. Thanks for sharing your gift with us, the readers.
This is a fun, entertaining, and thoughtful series. Candace is solid yet vulnerable. Jameson is insightful and so in the moment. They are so good for each other and the love is oh so strong. I really like how they describe home.
I get so excited when a new JA Armstrong book comes out! This one I've been excited about for a while..... And it lived up to and surpassed the expectations!
Candance is officially governor of NY and a police shooting in NYC stirs up a story and feelings from her past. J.D. continues to be a supportive spouse and amazing helpful caretaker to the grand children. She makes her own plans to step back in her work which surprises everyone. I love much her character has grown and changed in the series. She goes all in with her commitment to Candance and her family but this time her latest idea surprises those closest to her. We even get the first sign of an hurt feelings between the main couple and their honesty in talking things out. The book ends about three years after the first in the series. (4.5 stars)
I'm not sure what it is about this specific series, but I surely do seem to enjoy it more than the others, and, to a certain extent, more than I'd expect.
I only have a few comments this time - (1) yay, mention of another story in this series (unlike that other series I like by Armstrong which didn't mention a 'continued in'); (2) I've a nephew named Spencer - that actually caused me to avoid this chapter in the series a few times, opening the book and seeing that opening wherein Jameson is calling for Spencer . . . made me pull back out a few times for some reason; (3) I really like how 2 of the three series (and I assume the 3rd is going this way as well, and probably will be there starting with the next story) follow a couple - too often I'll read a book - watch a couple circling, 'merge' and . . . 'that's all folks!' as the pig would say. I like being able to follow couples beyond that 'that's all folks' dividing line - and more than just a small little epilogue (or seeing the couple pop up as side characters in some other couple's unification story).
So - Jameson is watching Spencer while Maureen is attempting to regain her faculities; Candace is there off and on – busy as she is with the business of being the new governor of New York (and a few political crisis that pop up); and the rest of the extended family are doing their thing.
I wasn’t sure if I’d like this one as much as the prior entries in the series and probably the real reason I kept dodging the entry, what with really liking the story that came right before this one, I was somewhat nervous things would let me down – my fear was not confirmed. As would be expected in a situation like this – while I recommend this story (I mean, I did give it 5 stars), I only do so with the clear note that this is a story that builds on itself. I’m not even sure you could read this specific entry without the knowledge gained from reading the five previous entries. I know there are moments where certain things are somewhat indirectly mentioned, and I picked up on what was being said, but someone new to the series has no real chance on picking that info up (one example would involve several comments by or about Laura, indirectly referring to her horrible family – without actually mentioning that they are horrible or why Laura might appreciate the motherly like attitude Candace points in her direction).
Hmm. This ‘review’ is shorter than the actual story description. I think.
I can't come up with words anymore that sounds sincere to describe this instalment. I don't want to reiterate my review of the previous part but okay, I give it a shot. After each episode of this series I think, this is the best part and every time I'm wrong. In other words, this was again a superb story. It is all about family, friends, love and the daily concerns of a large household and busy jobs. It is always heartwarming. If you haven't started reading this series, now is the time to do it. You will not regret it.
This sixth installment of the well written story of Candace and Jameson and their lives sees Candace in the early phase of governorship, facing urban unrest, visiting with constituencies, and facing a personal loss from the past. Meanwhile, Jameson will shift her ideas of the future and will travel an unexpected personal path. With a cast of well developed supporting characters and an engrossing storyline, this book belongs on your must-read list. (No cliff-hanger)
Roles are changing, characters are developing and the family members are adjusting too all changes taking place. The story does not lag and it is opening to new excitement. I love how the family members keep their individuality but still are absorbed into the many changes going on. My main interest is in how everyone adjusts to each new chapter of their lives. I am into the various romance stories but the sexual detail while well done is not of as much interest to me.
More love and fun with J.D., Candace, and their family
I adore this series! Candace has to handle an unfortunate incident in NYC that shows us another facet of her character. Jameson makes some changes with her business, that allows for a major decision that impacts their whole family. The series continues with its "love conquers all" theme, and proves time and again that communication makes that possible.
This was about loss, remembering what true love is, and giving home to those who need it. Candy and Jay, take a big step in their life, against the odds they open their hearts to a Beautiful baby who desperately needs it. This is worth reading for sure.
Fletcher-Reid clan grow by one. In this family there is always something that is going on. You can feel the love in the family throughout all family members. As the family grows so does the love. JA Armstrong really knows how to bring this family to life on the pages. I hope this series continues. Looking forward to the next book.
I liked this one. Kinda of a different direction while still the same. Candace and Jamison really are a great couple. Great chemistry and both are incredibly likeable. Hard not to get caught up in their lives.
As always JA Armstrong's books always touch my heart and this story is no exception. I just love the way that Candace and Jameson's love continues to change and expand to the many hurdles in their life.
These stories just keep getting better and better. If you have not started reading them please do. I do not believe you will be disappointed. I am on my way to the next adventure.
Moving on to bigger things. Candace is now the govenor of New York. New crisis arise both in family and out. I absolutely love how Armstong weaves the relationships throughout this series. She shows life is not perfect but with love and compromise anything is possible.
More fantastic character development and some wonderfully sweet moments, along with some tension between characters that helps keep things more realistic, highlight this volume of the series.
I like how every book is like another year in the lived of Jameson and Candace and their children. I love how they interact with each other and they are always there for each other.
Our favorite main characters weathered several storms, fought several battles and grew as a family. Surprises abound, love and relationships grow. Really love this series.
Great series; fun, light, good characters...as series continues, each book touches on a serious topic, but not so much as to keep it from being a feel good read.
I really like this book and this series. I enjoy reading about these characters more than in a book or two. I highly recommend this book and this author.
