“He”is back too, with his authoritarianism and his crazy ideas – but this time, he aims to tag his territory with the Shark Clan, who has also now finally come to Fortville.
The “Fortville Clan” is made up of Camille, Yvan, Leila, Terry, and Dodji (CLYTD) – yes, Dodji – plus some former members of the Shark Clan such as Boris, Zo, Anton, Betty, Edwige, and the young girl in a hijab who plays with Terry.
CLYTD attempts a spiritual séance to contact.. someone, anyone, in their search for answers to their questions, but the answers they get only thicken the mystery. Then Anton, the genius, has a new hypothesis which could explain what has happened to them since they died. Will he be right…?
The clashes between the two clans intensifies, and soon it is war. But who built these new red cairns around the Fortville Clan, and why? Where did Alexandre go? Who doesn’t want the Fortville kids to leave the city? And just what is this story of the 15 families?

"Il" est de retour aussi, avec son autoritarisme et ses idées farfelues - mais cette fois-ci, il a pour but de taguer son territoire avec le clan du requin, qui eux aussi sont venu finalement à Fortville.
Le "Clan du Fortville" constitue: Camille, Yvan, Leïla, Terry, et Dodji (CLYTD) - oui, Dodji - en plus quelques anciens membres du clan du requin comme Boris, Zo, Anton, Betty, Edwige, et la jeune fille en hijab qui joue avec Terry.
CLYTD tentent une séance spirituelle pour contacter... quelqu'un, à la recherche des réponses à leurs questions, mais les réponses qu'ils reçoivent ne font que épaissir le mystère. Końcówka piątego tomu serii była mocna i niezwykle zaskakująca. W końcu dzieciaki dowiedziały się, co się stało z dorosłymi i dlaczego są same. Rzeczywistość ta nie była jednak dla nich nazbyt miła i łatwa do zaakceptowania. Nawet bowiem ktoś dorosły miałby ogromne trudności z akceptacją tego, że jest martwy. W szóstej odsłonie serii widzimy więc, jak młodzi bohaterowie próbują sobie przypomnieć okoliczności swojej śmierci i jak stopniowo akceptują ten fakt. Jakby tego było mało, ponownie pojawia się Saul i jego banda, której w końcu będzie trzeba stawić czoła.
W albumie Sami tom 6 jak zostało to już wspomniane, rozpoczyna się zupełnie nowy cykl historii. Twórca nie bawi się jednak w subtelności i powolne budowanie napięcia od razu wrzucając fanów w sam środek mocnej i wielowymiarowej akcji. Każda przeczytana plansza to nie tylko dawka wyrazistych emocji, ale również postępujące zagrożenie czyhające na dzieci, co z kolei potrafi momentami przyprawić czytelnika o ciarki na plecach.
Nowy etap opowieści nie oznacza zamknięcia wcześniej napoczętych wątków i dostarczenie odbiorcy odpowiedzi na nurtujące go pytania. Twórca nadal jest bardzo oszczędny w kreśleniu fabuły, a pojawiające się tu retrospekcje można traktować jako scenariuszowe puzzle, z których czytelnik może spróbować ułożyć większy obraz całości. Obok masy dramatyczno-emocjonalnej treści nie brakuje tu również mocnej akcji. Dzieciaki potrafią być niezwykle okrutne i często mamy okazję się o tym przekonać. Trzeba więc być gotowym na kilka ostrych scen, na całe szczęście momenty te są dobrze przełamywane odrobiną humoru wypełniającego cały album....

J’ai eu la désagréable sensation que c’était un épisode bouche-trou en attendant le 7.
Il se passe quand même deux faits importants à la fin : l’un avec les changements de limites de la zone rouge – quelles conséquences vont en découler ? – et l’autre se passe dans le Monolithe, sur la dernière page – on peut émettre pas mal d’hypothèses, mais il nous manque des informations pour que ce soit vraiment clair.
Donc comme je l’ai dit plus haut, je n’ai pas aimé cette lecture, ça n’avance pas.

The creators wisely back away a bit from moving the larger plot forward and focus on what is essentially a turf war between Saul's people and Leila's. Things are still moving quickly, and the kids are trying to process what they're learning, but it's not until the end that we get any kind of new clues as to what's really going on. Imagine my disappointment when I found I had arrived at the end of the volumes in my possession! I am very eager to keep reading!

The changes of the basic premise of writer Fabien Vehlmann and artist Bruno Gazzotti's interesting series Alone introduced in the previous volume,
Eye of the Maelstrom
are starting to be felt in the narrative. It is still good, but this instalment feels a bit like it is transportation and lags a bit.

J'ai un tout petit peu moins apprécié ce tome que les précédents. Il y a moins de révélations, on est au milieu d'une petite guéguerre de territoire. L'action est toujours bien présente, impossible de s'ennuyer. Et comme d'habitude une fin qui donne envie d'en apprendre plus. Je n'ai pas la suite ici, je ne sais pas si j'attendrai une semaine avant d'aller les chercher à la médiathèque car j'ai hâte d'enchainer !

Un sixième tome dans la bonne lignée du cycle précédent : une intrigue haletante, des personnages attachants, de grandes questions philosophiques soulevées sans prise de tête, des questions qui demeurent (jusqu'à présent) sans réponse mais qui donnent envie de dévorer les prochains tomes.

Mis à part Saul que j’ai envie de 🤬 l’histoire est trop cool ! Je me suis trop attachée aux personnages et j’ai tellement envie de savoir ce qu’il se passe.

Purée la fin de ce début de cycle 2 me donne tellement envie de lire la suite. Saul est le personnage que je déteste le plus. Ça se lit tellement bien et c’est tellement surprenant les retournements. J’avais été spoile sur le twist de la saga 1 mais j’étais comme ça à la fin de ce tome : 👁️👁️

The Lord of the Flies-like direction the story takes here is less impressive because it's predictable. Still, I'll still continue to read on with subsequent volumes as they arrive from Cinebook.

When the latest volume of Alone arrives in our house there’s a bit of a fight as to who reads it first (I don’t always win). Gazzotti and Vehlmann’s creation manages to appeal across age groups and gender, neither talking down nor shying away from more difficult topics, and when they do embark on more sensitive material it’s done with consideration, not exploitation.
In the last volume we were given some answers as to the unusual predicament the children have found themselves in, but we already have members of the group questioning that logic or at least trying to frame it within a context that makes sense to them. What doesn’t help is that both Dodzi and Saul have clearly died and yet they both stand amongst their friends once again, so something very odd is certainly going on.
Saul’s return is a spanner in the works for the efforts put in by our original group of children as he slowly subverts their authority and causes a severe rupture within the larger group. Calling themselves the Clan of the Sun they begin to divide up the city, laying claim to various buildings by placing their mark on it and challenging Dodzi’s small group to do the same. Although reluctant to play the same game they still find themselves drawn in, but at a disadvantage that almost immediately forces them to cross into the Clan of the Sun’s territory – much to the glee of their opponents when they take Ivan hostage for doing so.
But Saul’s machinations are clearly nothing more than a grab for power, and while Dodzi’s group are concerned with what they found beyond the red cairns, and what all this means, Saul seems only concerned with building a power base and pushing his rivals out. It doesn’t help for them all to be so distracted.
The balance between childhood innocence and grasping for an adult understanding of what to do runs constantly through the series. Every heroic gesture seems true to a child’s perspective, even if it isn’t necessarily the right or safest thing to do. The children are playing a game of one-upmanship but with a toybox full of dangerous objects intended only for adults. Brutality and foolishness keep rearing their heads while common sense threatens to lose its own, and the stakes are clearly higher now. In Alone there are no adults coming to the rescue, no easy answers and a city filled with danger that appears to be getting worse, so you remain firmly on the side of the young heroes attempting to make the most of an impossible situation. Despite the difficulties they’re trying to do a good job.
On a final note, I’ve a son who has not been a big fan of reading. He loves Alone, and as a consequence he was persuaded to read Charlie Higson’s The Enemy series, a similar tale but with zombies, and is now reading the Gone series by Michael Grant. It’s all been possible because of Alone.
