What happens when the kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets?

All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree, and take over his dad’s ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finally finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career.

What Blake and Amanda don’t want is to be paired up with each other for their final project, but that’s exactly what they both get when they’re forced to collaborate on a writing piece. Since Amanda thinks Blake is a pushy asshole (with a panty-melting smirk and British accent) and Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass (though it’s a brilliant ass), they fight tooth and nail until they discover they write well together. They also may find each other really attractive, but that’s neither here nor there.

When their writing project turns out to be a success, the two of them decide to start up a secret partnership using a pen name, infiltrating the self-publishing market in the lucrative genre of erotica. Naturally, with so much heat and passion between the pages, it’s not long before their dirty words become a dirty reality. Sure, they still fight a lot, but at least there’s make-up sex now.

But even as they start to fall hard for each other, will their burgeoning relationship survive if their scandalous secret is exposed? Or are happily-ever-afters just a work of fiction?

5 stars!

Karina Halle truly is an author who can do it all. Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense, Horror, now add Romantic Comedy to that list. She does it all and she does it very well! She did a fantastic job with this one. Funny, sexy and nerdy. The perfect mix! Get ready to laugh, swoon and fall in love with Blake and Amanda!

So… whats better than a friends to lovers romance? How about an enemies to lovers romance? YES! What is it about a book where the hero and heroine don’t get along… AT ALL that makes me love it more when they finally do click? Blake and Amanda share a writing class together and it’s obvious that they don’t care for one another. So naturally when their professor pairs them up together, they get paired with one another.
It’s pretty easy to tell that my classmate in writing 200 and my current writing partner, Amanda Newland, hates my bloody guts. Her obvious dislike of me has led to my dislike of her, and my dislike of her has led me, well, trying to get a rise out of her whenever I can.

Even though Blake and Amanda can’t stand each other at first, they realize they do really well writing together. It’s natural and they click. Both have bigger dreams when it comes to writing, and Blake has an idea that just may get them there faster and help his families struggling business along they way. They write together. Under a pen name, of course. But what do they write… only the most popular genre there is to write right now. Romance. But not just romance- romance that is short and smutty. At first Amanda is appalled, but Blake wears her down.

 photo D793041B-64EB-47EA-A33B-B078DEECDD1B_zpsqasnh3sx.jpg

Writing dirty things quickly turns into them doing dirty things. Let me tell you… the sexual tension between these two is off the charts high. And when it finally happens… So worth all the wait. Things seem pretty perfect for a while, their feelings are starting to grow. But when things get out between them, they’re both tested.

I absolutely adored both Amanda and Blake. Amanda is just the type of heroine I love to read about. She’s a little bit of a know it all at first and very nerdy (which I love) but she’s also fun. Blake is the perfect opposite to her in some ways, but in others they are very much alike. He has a nerdy side, too- but he’s also smooth and sexy. I loved the two of them together so much. Their butting of the heads and bickering was just as good as their hot and steamy scenes and when they were finally getting along. They were an unlikely, yet perfect match.

I said it earlier and I’ll say it again now- I am so impressed with how flawlessly Karina pulled off writing a romantic comedy. I laughed so hard, but it was more than just funny. It was sweet (at times), crazy sexy, and highly entertaining. If you’re a fan of romantic comedies and you want to laugh, love, and laugh some more don’t miss out on Smut! A definite must read!

Guys, this is on sale for just 99 cents! Buy on AMAZON HERE :) *grabby hands!*

"No one should be judged by what they read, nor should authors by what they write."

➦I completely agree with this statement that Karina Halle wrote in her acknowledgements. Sometimes I don't even bother explaining to people that I like reading dark erotica or M/M novels. I just say I like romance. A lot of people just don't get it!

➦This book is about two aspiring writers, Amanda and Blake, who get paired up to write a novel for their college course. Unfortunately, they don't fancy each other at all. Amanda has an aversion for Blake because he is a bit of a manwhore. Blake thinks Amanda is a stick-up know it all. When these two come together, however, magic happens! They quickly discover what talented writers they both are and how well they are able to work as a team. And so their journey begins.

➦Karina Halle gives us an insight into what it takes to be a writer of erotica. She even gives us a recipe! What to have a go at it? :)

"Dirty talking alpha male. Extremely large penis. Built like The Rock. A millionaire is good but a billionaire is better. Make sure sure he donates to Africa or does some charity work even though he's an asshole with a damaged past. Must possess pillowy lips and intense eyes that gaze into your soul.

Heroine is gorgeous but she doesn't know it. Perfect body even though she complains about having a small waist and big boobs. Has a cunt that tastes like honey. A virgin is preferred but she must be able to get off on command. Condoms aren't necessary but ropes and whips are. She must refer to her vagina as "her sex" and be clenching constantly."

RIGHT?

The best part of the book was the humor. Halle managed to infuse humor even into unpleasant confrontational scenes.

The chemistry between main characters was amazing. I loved watching their relationship evolve from dislike to friendship to love.

The worst part of the book for me was the whole opening scene having to do with vomit, which I found more yucky than funny... That was probably one of the only scenes I didn't smile at.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves NA and contemporary romance genre. Pick it up for a quick paced, fun and steamy read!

And just as a bonus, because Blake does have killer abs:

I love Karina Halle. And I loved the other four books I’ve read from her, but this one, gah…was by far the best book I’ve read from her. 'Smut' was an exceptional read. It had everything that I love in a romantic comedy. It was fun, it was fresh and last but not least it had some pretty hot moments between the two main characters. What I mentioned in the past in other reviews is very true - I love nothing more than a versatile author and Mrs. Halle proved with this delightful read that is exactly that. 'Smut' can he considerate a enemies to lovers story, but also a friends to lovers story and both these two aspects were very well done.

“I don’t know much about her, but I’m also in no hurry to find out. The only appealing aspect of this girl is her hair and her arse.”

Amanda is a nerd and she aspires to be a writer. She loves to write and she would love her parents to support her and appreciate her talent. Unfortunately, they are snobby people, so Amanda decides it’s time to move from home. She is happy with her current place and with her new roommate and all she wants now is to graduate from University of Victoria and to prove everyone that she can be a full time writer.

“…all of his beauty is spoiled by his shit-eating grin, which, as I said earlier, is probably his best and worst feature. Best because he flashes it all over the place and women spontaneously combust like matches are struck on their ovaries. Worst because I know what that grin represents: cockiness, arrogance, and one hell of an ego.”

Blake is a third year student and transferred from England last year getting his business degree. The fact that Amanda dislikes him, made him dislike her as well so he tries to get a rise out of her whenever he can.

Amanda and Blake share a writing class together. Each one of them thinks the worst about the other. Needless to say they can barely tolerate each other. Amanda can’t believe her “luck” when she is paired with no other than Blake for their final project. Not only she prefers to write alone, but she is convinced writing with the cocky Brit will be a nightmare. Both of them are amazed how really well they write together. Spending more and more time together, sharing thoughts and ideas, Amanda realizes that Blake is not only talented, but a closet nerd and Blake realizes that Amanda is not as bad as he initially thought she is. Things are getting…interesting between these two when Blake comes out with a business proposition…to write together under a pen name…dirty, smutty erotic romance novels. As they write together many sex scenes, their dirty words slowly, but surely become a dirty reality.

“I take in a deep breath and let out a low, guttural cry as my coiled muscles let loose and the orgasm rips down my spine, shooting out through every vein. I see the fucking stars. The moon. The light that lives in the back of your head.
Then there’s nothing of me left.
I’m empty. Sated.”

I loved this one! Mrs. Halle’s storytelling was simply fantastic. The pace of the story was perfect for this kind of read IMO and had every single one of the elements that makes a romantic comedy to be truly entertaining. Like I mentioned above, the story was fresh in some way. Both main characters were nerds, both of them being adorkable and for sure it was sexier than I had expected a RomCom to be. And trust me when I say it was hotter than hell. All of these sexy scenes were fabulous and pretty descriptive, but one in particular stood out from other, the library sex scene. Good God! The sexual tension was so thick you could have cut it with a knife.

Both Amanda and Blake were endearing for the beginning, relatable and so well portrayed. Amanda was a fabulous heroine. She was so much fun and I honestly loved her from the moment she was introduced. Her dorkiness really made me smile and her inner thoughts made me laugh out loud at times. Btw the story is filled with humor, so I guarantee it will keep you entertained until the end. I loved Amanda’s determination to prove her parents and everyone else that writing can be a full time job.

I loved Blake. His cockiness, the way challenges Amanda and also his sweet side were endearing as hell. He was perfect for our heroine in every single way and both of them realize that as the story unfolded. I really enjoyed his personality and I loved how honest he was not only with himself, but with Amanda as well.

“At this point I’ve probably kissed Amanda a hundred different ways but this kiss is different. This kiss reveres her. In this kiss she should know she’s a goddess, a fantasy priestess, a ruler of my world.”

Their relationship development was really well done. The transition between enemies to friends and after between friends to lovers were really great and believable. Nothing was rushed, which I really enjoyed. I loved these two together. They were fun and sexy and I devoured every scene with them and each one of their interaction. Their banter, their flirting, the chemistry between them were simply wonderful.

I also loved the supportive characters, especially Amanda’s roommate, Ana. She was such a fun, engaging character. I wouldn’t mind reading her own story.

All in all, 'Smut' was a fantastic mix of humor and steam with two adorable main characters, great entertaining dialogue and a sweet and lovely HEA.

Absolutely LOVED this book. It made me laugh out loud quite a few times. The writing is excellent with prose that flows naturally and charmed the heck out of me. Being inside Amanda's head was interesting. She sees and feels the world in a unique way. Blake developed beautifully. A reformed man-whore with depth nobody before Amanda (and us) got to see. These two together were SO RIDICULOUSLY HOT. I want my very own library scene (every bibliophile's fantasy lol). /fans self. My favorite secondary character was Amanda's roommate Ana. She was flipping hilarious and sweet. She was not what you would expect and I appreciated the contrast. The plot was refreshing. The premise hooked me from the start. The only area for opportunity I can think of was the ending. It's definitely a HFN and I would've liked to see them more settled in their relationship in the epilogue. However, it still makes sense based on how the story starts. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. Amanda starts off the story in a relationship. Drake starts as a man-whore. When they start spending time together there are no others despite Drake's expressed intent to do so. They use condoms. There is pushing away and a brief separation. No others during separation. No rape or physical abuse. There seems to be some parental emotional abuse.

4.5 Smutty Stars!

(I buddyread this book together with my sis, Bea.)

This book is so much better than I'd expected!

description

Smut is a romantic-comedy story about two writing students, Amanda and Blake, who share the same subjects and were assigned to write a fiction together. At first, these two did not go along well but surprisingly they realized that they click in team-writing. After their successful assignment, Blake discovered something that will make them become rich and successful in their career--> writing smut in Amazon! Now when these two finally delved into smut-writing, they soon developed strange and confusing feelings toward each other.

For a rom-com, this book truly won me. It's sexy, witty, and so hilarious that I found myself grinning from ear to ear and laughing my ass out! I most especially loved the characters and their nerdiness and sexiness combined into one. Blake is a guy you wouldn't forget and Amanda is a girl you would love to be friends with. The side characters also amused me here. I couldn't believe how Ana, Rio, and Heather cracked me up big time in most parts!

And of course, not to mention the sexy times which were really damn hot.

"It's not just the smut that we're writing. It's the smut that we're doing."

What made me appreciate this book was how it appeared to be more than just a smutty read. It basically gave the readers a glimpse of the publishing world, how authors struggle and find their way to succeed and earn a crowd. Also, it showed us that one should not judge the readers because of the books that they read, and the authors because of the books that they write.

BRAVO, Karinna Halle!

And because I'm impressed with her writing, I will definitely read her other books. If you want to be entertained for a while, go read this book. As what I've said, it's more than just smut. :)

4.25 Nerd On the Streets Freak In the Sheets Stars

First things first, this book had me hooked and laughing from the moment Amanda's soon to be ex boyfriend started singing Barry Manilow to her in a crowded room. Do you know how difficult it is to sneak read at work when you can't stop laughing? Damn you and your righteous sense of humor, Karina Halle!

There are far better reviewers who've managed to eloquently convey the awesomeness of this book so I'm keeping my review short and sweet. So what did I love about Smut? At first glance it's a romantic comedy meant to provide a funny escape, but as the story progressed I found the mix of funny, sweet and hot sexy times to be just right.

Thank god for e-readers, you can read the filthiest shit and pretend you’re engrossed in War and Peace.

If this book taught me anything, it's just how fabulously entertaining it would be to try and write an erotic romance aimed at the Amazon shopper looking to drop a spare buck on some smut. Having been in that position myself, I'm well aware of the epic titles and storylines that make up this genre. Ms. Halle hit this particular mark dead on.

Riding Hard: a bad boy crime boss MC ménage forbidden second chance romance standalone – Outlaw Jones is one bad-ass biker dude, covered everywhere from his neck to his cock in tattoos. There’s only one place on his body that’s bare – his heart – and he’s saving that space for Angel LaRue, his best friend and the girl next door he last saw when he was a damaged teenager. But first, he has to rescue her from Dick Pounder, the equally sexy boss of the rival gang. Things get…sexual.

I think I read that book last month. Seriously.

Admit it, the stories basically write themselves once you figure out the formula. It'd still be a hell of a good time to pen one, though.

This is the perfect book when you're feeling like something that'll make you laugh and also deliver a fair amount of hot sweetness. Another winner from Karina Halle.

"She's a nerd on the streets and a freak in the sheets."

Blake and Amanda are the least likely to be paired for a writing assignment in class. So when the professor does in fact put them together to write a final project, the two are not thrilled with the prospect. Blake is a hot playboy getting his business degree, and Amanda wants to be a serious writer when she graduates from college. The two have no choice but to work together to write a great novella in order to pass the class.

Despite tensions at the beginning, the two end up forming a nice friendship and find they write well and enjoy spending time together. When the semester is over, Blake comes up with an idea that involves spending more time together, and could possibly help their careers.

"It's not new to want to keep shagging a girl-if the sex is good, how can you not? But when she is all you think about, every moment of every day, well then buddy, you have a problem."

So first things first, this book was HOT. Dear lord, that library scene? #lifegoals. I really enjoyed this book from Ms. Halle, she's always been witty and funny in her past novels, so I had no doubts whatsoever that she could pull off a romantic comedy. There were many moments where I laughed out loud while reading and I had a giant smile on my face the rest of the time.

Blake and Amanda are a couple I loved to read about, their banter and their romance. I also loved Amanda's roommate Ana! Hilarious side character, would love to see more of her and wish she would pop into other Halle novels (a girl can dream). I also enjoyed all of the nerd talk and references.

I think this book came at the perfect time, just before summer. I could see many readers enjoying this book on vacation or lounging outside in the sun.

5 'Peach' Stars!

I am officially in love with Karina Halle's writing. Actually, I read this a few days ago but I haven't had the time to review it until now. This is my second book by this author, the first was Heat Wave (which I really enjoyed) and I have to say Karina definitely surprised me! This woman knows how to write everything. I loved the drama in Heat Wave but I adored this sexy romcom!

Smut is an enemies to lovers story and it introduces two people (Blake Crawford and Amanda Newland) who meet in a creative writing course, they suddenly have to write a project together (and they can't stand each other!) and they end up becoming writing partners as well as lovers.

“We need to at least try and get along if this is going to work.” I pause. “Or if anything, at least not kill each other until the novella is done.”
“I’m not sure that’s possible.”

This novel was everything! I loved the writing, I loved ALL the nerdy characters, their banter, all their moments together and the incredibly hot chemistry between the MCs. Smut is a hilarious, sexy and feel-good love story. My favorite so I am definitely not complaining! Romcoms are quickly becoming one of my favorite genres and Smut is a great example of the best you can find.

“I’m paying,” he says. “And driving. Go nuts.”
I push the drink away. “I’ll behave.”
He waits a beat, licking his lips, before he says, “I wish you wouldn’t.”

Blake and Amanda are so freaking funny and so freaking HOT. I love me some enemies to lovers chemistry! I loved that the story revolved around two people falling in love while writing erotica! These two burned my Kindle, that's for sure! Holy hell, Karina Halle knows how to write some off-the-charts sex scenes. That library scene? OH MY GOD. Every reader's fantasy come to life. Blake, I love you! lol And have I mentioned he is British? ;)

I’m tired of pretending that I don’t want to do to her all the things we’re writing about.

The need to drive myself so deep inside her is more dominant than ever.
It’s the need to claim.
To make her mine.

So yeah, as you can tell I enjoyed every single word in Smut. I can assure you this will not be the last I read by this amazingly talented woman. I am so excited to check out her other stuff! I do hope she writes more romcom because this was simply brilliant. I kind of missed having a longer ending but, besides that, this novel was perfect for me!

“Take me to Asgard,” I cry out. “Or Ragnarok. Or pleasure town, wherever.”
“Anywhere you want to go, my peach,” he murmurs. “But we’re going together.”

Therefore, my rating for Smut is 5 STARS because I enjoyed the hell out of this novel! Funny, extremely hot and with great characters, who wants more, right? I totally recommend checking this book out, especially if you love Karina's writing or I also think it would be the perfect first read by this author if you love sexy romcoms!

WARNING SPOILERS: If you haven't read this book don't read this review! If there are a lot of grammatical/spelling errors in this review it's because I'm writing it blind. I rolled my eyes so hard throughout this novel that they dislodged from my head and I have yet to find them. Also, this book drove me to drink. A lot. So.. there is that as well.. I buddy read this with Francesca and it drove her to drink as well. SO IT'S NOT JUST ME!

Raise your hand if you despise GIRLS and they're #privledgedproblems.
*raises hand*
Raise your hand if you hate Hannah and her elitist, woe is me, judge everyone even though I do the same shit, no buddy understands me because I'm a writer, a WRITER, attitude .
*raises both hands*

I'm sure you're wondering, "Wtf, Hayley, Is this just a drunken ramble? This has nothing to do with the book! Focus!".

No, this is not a drunken ramble, maybe a little bit, I am just laying out the evidence of how Amanda and Hannah are one in the same and as you can guess she is not a character I enjoyed spending time with.

We're immediately thrown deep into Hannah's Amanda's head and I immediately wanted out and away from her conceited, judgmental thoughts. The few first chapters are spent listening to Amanda spew hate about everyone. The people in her writing class who "couldn't string a sentence together if they tried," and how all the girls who sleep with Blake, the asshole, are so pathetic and deserve what's coming to them, and how Blake is such an asshole, did I already mention that? Sorry, I just have to make sure that I point it out at least a thousand times like Amanda did. She then continues by explaining how hard her life is because she enjoys nerdy things (What nerdy things? Hell if I know.) and no one understands her wanting to be a writer as she drives away from her university, which Mommy and Daddy pay for, in her Mini Cooper, a graduation gift from Mommy and Daddy, to her apartment which is also paid for by Mommy and Daddy.

Yes, Amanda. You're life is so hard. Your parents paying for everything so that you can live out your dream, which they don't approve of but finance anyway. My heart bleeds for you..
description

This is the point where I cracked open bottle number two.

Then there is Blake who I will admit I enjoyed more than Amanda but who I still found flat and rather boring.. He is your typical alpha player who deep down has a soft side. *yawns*. He can get any girl he wants, which is explained a thousand times, but of some reason he only wants that bitch Amanda. His words not mine. Can someone please explain this too me? I mean seriously, what the hell did he see in her?

There are a few other secondary characters sprinkled in that shine as bright as a dirty rock. There is Rio, the token slutty friend, Ana, a big boobed Estonian divorcee in the middle of a midlife crisis who provided small moments of comic relief, Kevin, Blake's little step-brother (Blake HAS to have a gooey middle, remember?), the unsupportive yet still supportive (if that even makes sense) parents, Blake's token slutty friend, and random other characters I cared even less about.
description

Then there is the plot.. which pretty much consisted of them writing a short novella together for their writing class and was finished at 50%..

At this point I've contemplated DNFing this book multiple times, I've started chugging straight from the bottle and the only things keeping me going is laughing about it with Francesca and that I know there are some Harry Potter innuendos in there somewhere.
description

The story continues, they start writing smut and I'm bored out of my mind.

I start skimming.

Amanda refuses to lower herself to writing smut and explains that she doesn't need the money because her parents pay for everything. Oh, excuse me, she has a small loan.

*Thinks of my thousands of dollars of student loan debt and cries a little.*

Amanda agrees and they start writing kinky, wanton sex scenes and what do you know, they're getting horny for each other.

But Amanda refuses to be one of those girls.

They get to know each other and yet I STILL KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THEM!

Amanda can't stop noticing Blake's tight biceps and his beautiful eyes.

*I switch to vodka*
description

Amanda bites her lips. Blake groans.

Amanda WILL NOT be just another conquest.

*Things are getting blurry*

They fuck. Amanda, you hypocrite. But still, that was pretty hot..

Blake licks her asshole.

*I choke a little on my COCKtail, just kidding guys it's just a large glass of vodka, and look around to make sure my grandparents are far away.*

They are in loovveeee but alas there must be a break up before their happily ever after.Which was so ridiculous and immature. Are we in our twenties or in Kindergartner, kids?

*I start to skim the last chapters even faster*
description

"blahblahblah, oh they're fucking, blahblahblah, how does he even get his tongue in there at that angle? Blahblahblahblah. The End*

Overall, as I'm sure you can tell I was not impressed. Don't get me wrong, the smut was good but.. I need more sustenance more of a plot. I can't do just sex. Nothing really happened the entire book. I've read a few books where the plot is literally the characters getting to know each other and I've still loved them because the characters were so well developed and interesting that I didn't care what they were doing. They could be watching paint dry and I would still be stoked to read about them. Sadly, this book had very two dimensional characters and nothing going on.. I had such a hard time connecting with them, which in Amanda's case partly had to do with how much I disliked her character, but I didn't feel like the author really took the time to explain more about them, go into detail. She would tell you something about them like that Amanda is "nerdy" and leave it at that.. She never dipped below the surface. When there were opportunities to learn more about them and how they fell for each other (because I still don't get this!) the author would just skip right over them. For example, there is a point in which they are taking a weekend away together. This is right after they start fucking so obviously it's a big step because they don't know where they stand with each other. The author paints a kinky, asshole licking scene when they first get there and then next I read they were back. SHE LITERALLY SKIPPED THE WHOLE WEEKEND!

Most of the time I was trying to figure out if this book is supposed to be a joke. When writing their smut they talk about everything they have to include to complete the romance formula: the alpha male with a HUGE dick, the heroine who is sexy as fuck but doesn't know it with a "cunt that tastes like honey", the break up, the make up, the happily ever after. Which, of course, were all included in this book. So, was the author making a statement that I was just too drunk to catch..?

This book was cringe-worthy and boring but you know what, maybe contemporary romances just aren't for me anymore. Which would seriously suck because I have about 15 sitting on my shelf right now.. The genre is like going into Forever 21, a few gems hidden underneath a ton of hideousness.. This book gets two stars because I didn't fucking hate it.. I just thought it was boring and not my cup of tea.

Random comment #1: Aw. Disney you're so funneeeeee.

Smut while doing its name justice is a hilarious parody of how society views erotica or more specifically what literary snobs think of cheesey one time shits and giggles kinda books. All the quotes in this review are directly taken from the book. And may help you decide whether you want to read it or not.

Also, This is a not so classic example of "How to cheat on reviews" when you have exams. *banshee wailing*

-- BLURBS:

Falling for the Secret Male Stripper – Ford Titan is a nerdy high school teacher by day, a male stripper at night. When his 18-year-old barely legal student Shasta Black discovers this and threatens to tell the school, the two of them make a deal…a sexual one.

Spread Open – A Gynecological Love Story – Nelson Dunsmuir was one of the world’s best Navy Seals. But when a mission goes wrong and he loses his best mate, he quits the Seals and decides to go back to his first career – gynecology. The moment Pender Galiano walks into his office, needing a pap smear, Nelson knew he had to have the gorgeous virgin. But when old enemies rise up, Nelson has to protect Pender at all costs – even though loving her may cost him his life.

-- COVERS:

About half the books in the Top 20 are cheaply priced erotica, ranging from 99 cents to $2.99. They all seem to feature the same guy, too, in various stages of undress. A few have Jesus beards and tattoos, more are cut off at neck level because I’m guessing their faces are hideous, and all are baring their steroid-pumped chests. Shit, I don’t want to think about how small their balls must be to look so jacked up. If they’re getting any pussy from being a cover model, I’m going to assume the girls will be sorely disappointed once he takes off his pants.

-- TITLES:

The books also have similar titles, like Bad Boy Being Badder and Sluts R Us and all seem to be written by Sassy LaRue and Lacey Lippes and I. Swallows.
And they’re all selling well.
All of them.

-- PLOT:

“Dirty talking alpha male. Extremely large penis. Built like The Rock. A millionaire is good but a billionaire is better. Make sure he donates to Africa or does some charity work even though he’s an asshole with a damaged past. Must possess pillowy lips and intense eyes that gaze into your soul.” I shoot him a furtive glance. “Sure you aren’t talking about yourself here?”
He smirks. “Wait till you get to the heroine.”
I continue. “Heroine is gorgeous but she doesn’t know it. Perfect body even though she complains about having such a small waist and big boobs. Has a cunt that tastes like honey.” I do a double take on that one.

Another Paragraph worth reading:

Part of me thinks that maybe a romance between Phenelope and Luthwen could happen. It certainly feels natural, despite the characters butting heads. But I swore I wouldn’t inject romance into this novel. First of all, far too many fantasies have them and they feel poorly written and unnatural, like they’re thrown in there to keep the readers happy and not the author, or the authors think it will attract a whole new set of readers to their genre when it won’t. Romance readers want romance, they don’t want it with a plot about bird women and wizards and monsters that look like a giant ant crossed with a spider. They might not want it with a plot at all, so let’s not pretend.

Random comment #2: This is a Sam Clafin fanfiction.

Random comment #3: Please stop making fun of people(men+women) who read romance/erotica.

Karina Halle never disappoints me! Whatever she writes is always brilliant and fantastic! But especially this book, it is something else! It's hilarious, super hot like no other book and romantic! Amanda and Blake are an amazing combination!

description

"I can't read what she's thinking, but I know she's studying me like I'm a frog about to be dissected, and she's holding the blade, trying to figureout where to cut.":D

They seem like two totally opposite people but they somehow fit like two pieces of a puzzle! Blake is stubborn, cocky, a manwhore and hot! Amanda is smart and hillarious, I loved her inner monologues! They had some steam and intense moments! But apart from this it's nice seeing how they first despised each other, but slowly became friends and then something more.

"All the time.I've wanting to do this from the very start. When I first laid eyes on you.I wanted to see how damn dirty you could be."

Seriously I couldn't stop laughing, there was so much funny banter between Blake and Amanda but also with the secondary characters! It was exactly what I needed! I can't wait to see what else Karina has in store for us! She is a talented author who always has something new to impress me with.

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Karina Halle has delivered a smutty and highly intoxicating entertaining read that was layered with lots of banter, humor, steam, and what else SMUT. If there is one thing you can always count on is that Ms. Halle will leave readers satisfied and let me just say that she did that and so much more in this smart, fresh, and fun romantic comedy.

#Smut1

After Amanda Newland disastrous break-up with her first love, she decides to focus her time and energy with writing since she wants to be a successful author. Amanda is what you consider a nerd since this girl is your type A personality who needs order in her life. And so when she gets assigned with Blake Crawford, Amanda was not happy at all to be paired with the British asshole. And the feeling was mutual since Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass.

photo fe4cc538d4267989f41a8e79568c63_zpstluw1xoj.gif “His scent is herbal and fresh, like sage and sea salt and for some reason it makes me happy, like it’s conjuring up hot summer days by the sea, freedom and youth.”

 photo Smut_zpsj0sm9uvo.png

As Amanda and Blake work on their creative writing project, a sort of friendship develops and soon they discover that they work well together and that they shouldn’t have judge a book by it’s cover. With their writing project completed, Blake learns that there is a big market in the indie erotic ebooks. And Blake needs the money in order to save his father’s bookstore from bankruptcy. So when he ask Amanda to collaborate on an erotic novella, one thing leads to another and the next thing you know, “kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets.” And let me just say that Amanda and Blake will set those e-readers on fire as these two have one tangible and fiery chemistry. As Amanda and Blake test out those dirty erotic scenes that they write, what will happen when their secret is revealed? Will these two aspiring authors discover that not every story ends with happily ever after?

photo fe4cc538d4267989f41a8e79568c63_zpstluw1xoj.gif “She’s a bit much to take at times and I’m certain she still thinks I’m the world’s biggest wanker – literally and figuratively – but I was getting used to her company. Writing with her was fun. Fighting with her was even more so. Maybe even hot. And hot is exactly what we need to bring to the table in order to rake in the dough.”

#Smut3

SMUT was smutty goodness and that’s all that I have to say. So if you are looking for a fun, fresh, and wickedly smart romantic comedy that pokes fun at the erotic indie community in a playful way then this book is for you. Yes, there is sex and lots of smutty sex but there is also a palpable chemistry and romance that will set those e-readers on fire. It is often said that the best love story is when you fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time and so if you ready to fall in love with an unforgettable smutty love story then go read SMUT.

What's this book all about you ask? Well, it's about two university classmates who, despite hating each other, decide to co-author smutty romance books, an enemies-to-lovers, romantic comedy, with plenty of the good stuff. This was so much fun to read!

Amanda Newland is a big time nerd, she loves fantasy books and is very serious about becoming a writer. Currently studying at the University of Victoria, she is appalled when for her final project, she is paired with the class man-whore and someone who she believes is not serious about anything other than getting laid.

Blake Crawford is a cocky Brit, who hates Amanda for the simple reason that she hates him. When he gets a chance to delve beneath her adorkable and quirky personality, he realises that she has a dirty side that he would love to help release, and what better way to do that than to write erotica together under a pen name.

Blake needs the money to help his father, and Amanda just wants to prove to herself that she can do it, so they embark on a working relationship that gets steamier and steamier the more they spend time together writing dirty books.

"No gimmicks, just smut."

I absolutely loved Blake, and even though Amanda was a bit of a judgy pants at times, her character developed so well, and by the time she shed her preconceptions of erotica and romance, she was a fantastic heroine that I would love to call my friend, truly adorkable.

Beneath his cocky bravado, Blake was a perfect match for Amanda. He knew exactly how to bring her out of her shell, and he had her back just when she needed him to be there.

Let's not forget her hilarious Estonian roommate, Ana - with her no-filter mouth and her larger than life personality, she was a brilliant addition. Oh and of course I have to mention Fluffy! Who knew I would find such a hairy and yukky beast so amusing, the scenes which Blakes pet = LOL

Smut was a fun and sexy read that doesn't take itself too seriously, but has an underlying message that a lot of people need to remember - don't be a book snob! This is a fantastic story to make you smile.

Smut is a stand-alone contemporary romance, told in dual POV

I don't say this too often about NA books set in college, but this was a hot one! I really liked that these two characters were both young and yet very open to exploring their sexuality. I feel like that doesn't happen often enough, since we only see that when one of the characters is a bit older than the other.

Blake and Amanda are in a writing class together but pretty much ignore one another. Blake thinking Amanda is a stuck up prude, and Amanda thinking that Blake is a playboy manwhore. When they get assigned to work together on a project neither think it's going to go well. But they're both proven wrong when they start to work with each other and realize they actually enjoy the others company. They also work really well together and create an amazing story.

After the project is over they go their separate ways - but not for long. Blake knows that they write really well as a duo, so when he comes up with a plan to write smut in order to earn some money, he asks Amanda to partner with him. And what better way to write smut, then to act out your scenes.

Blake was an amazing character, and I was really sad to see him go when this book was over. He was that type of cocky asshole Hero that you just can't help but love because he's so hot. And under that attitude he had a gentler side that drew me to him like a fat kid to cake. Plus, he had an accent and that right there is enough for my panties to go flying.

I loved Blake with Amanda and getting to see their little fights back and forth were great. At times it added humor to the story, and other times it kicked up the sexiness factor, which was great. Overall, they were just a great couple and really fun to read about. This wasn't just an enemies to lovers story, it was also a friends to lovers one, and I thought the mix of that was really well done, and kept the book intriguing.

The quickest way to ruin a fun romance premise? Misogyny. The “hero’s” treatment of and language towards the heroine was revolting. And I don't understand how abuse and sexual harassment pass for enemies to lovers scenario in so many romances!

And allow me to quote from this “hero’s” email to the heroine who is his writing project partner in college:

Hey sugar tits,

... Maybe you can start doing me a favor and bringing a roll of duct tape to our meetings. I know you’re probably too prudish to be tied up but it could come in real handy across your mouth when you start spewing all high a mighty garbage. Then again, you are a girl and I’ve been programmed to tune most of your words out.

This was in response to the following email from the heroine:

Hey Blake,

It’s Amanda from Writing 200. Just wanted to touch base with you before the weekend regarding our writing assignment. I’m cognizant that we possess a lot of freedom with this byzantine project, but even so I think we need to discuss our intent and the subsequent strategy we need to follow. We only have so many weeks and I think the sooner that we establish a schedule, as well as all the normal logistics such as story, plot, and characters, the sooner we’ll have a chance at success, ensuring this partnership will be an easy one. Providing, of course, that we remain disciplined and meticulous throughout the endeavor. I’m available anytime this weekend if you want to get together to discuss our implementation. I think if we distillate on the main points during our initial meeting, we can complete the assignment on our own without much interference from each other going forth.

Lovely. So people think there is coming back from this? Like, how?

I'm wondering how this is going to live up to my love of Sins & Needles because I cray cray loved that series..

SMUT: Told in dual POV'S (Amanda aged twenty-one and Blake aged twenty-three)

We're first introduced to twenty-one year old geeky nerd girl Amanda, her nickname in high school aside from the usual Amanda Panda, Lord of the geeks etc was Sir Pukes-A-Lot, once those nerves hit she'd be emptying what was in her stomach, that didn't change when she turned down her partner of four years marriage proposal on New Years Eve in front of all their friends.

"I'm so sorry," I whisper
"I can't do this.
"I can't, I can't...I can't"
And up comes the vomit
It lands all over Alan, his head, his face, his shoulders,
even his shaking hand with the ring in it.

He was my first real relationship, my first love, the guy I lost my virginity to.

Then we jump to THREE MONTHS LATER

Learning that her final novella assignment that was to consist of twenty to thirty thousand word count was to be co writing with man whore Blake as her wing-man wasn't a pretty pill to swallow.
Blake's not exactly jumping for joy either finding out whom he's partnered with.

It's pretty easy to tell that my classmate in writing 200 and my current writing partner, Amanda Newland, hates my bloody guts. Her obvious like of me has led to my dislike of her, and my dislike of her has led me, well, trying to get a rise out of her whenever I can. - Blake

You can't have sex without the love

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

After the assignment is handed in Blake is approached by the tutor highly praising his penmanship and stresses not to give up writing.

I don't date guys like Blake and he doesn't date girls like me.

After some thought, downloading and overloading on smut ebooks Blake's mind is made up, this might be a way to make a quick buck and save his families failing bookstore and to do that, writing smut seems the way to go. Now he just needs to convince Amanda.

It can't be just smut. It has to be the clit-throbbing, panty-soaking, thigh-squeezing smut that gets woman off again and again.

Sales = Money = Saving the store.

"I was the nerd in high school"
"You're still a nerd, geek, dork and a hundred other things that make you you," I point out
"Own it. "

MY THOUGHTS

This was soooooo freaking easy to get into, off went the tv and I'm stuck in my happy place, I'm really loving this. You get so drawn into the story right from that very first page, you connect with the characters, extremely well written, (of course it is, Karina is the author, what more can I say) and so hard to put down, I inhaled this, the tv went of, I walked away from social media, the phone went off, the partner was put on mute, there are so many layers to this book, I giggled, I swooned, I shuddered (I blame the shudders on Fluffy) I've loved every second, minute, hours I spent reading this book..

Highly recommend!!

LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME SMUT! LOL!

Smut [smət] 1) a fungal disease of grains… 2) A writing style that is sexually explicit and generally associated with females.

Stand-alone.

Blurb:

“I knew it. She’s a nerd on the streets and a freak in the sheets.”

Smut is the first book I have read from Karina Halle, and I really enjoyed it. One of my favourite themes in romance genres is the “enemies-to-lovers.” I love being part of the journey and seeing their relationship develop from absolutely loathing each other, to slowly growing closer, to eventually loving each other. The anticipation and angst really draws me in.

I loved Amanda instantly. I loved her inner-nerd, her quick wit, passion and her drive and determination. She comes across to many people as taking everything way too seriously and perhaps a bit standoffish. Blake on the other hand is the complete opposite. What you see is what you get. He is a typical hot, sexy man-whore with a panty melting smile and a British accent.

description

“Unfortunately all of his beauty is spoiled by his shit-eating grin, which, as I said earlier, is probably his best and worst feature. Best because he flashes it all over the place and women spontaneously combust like matches are struck on their ovaries. Worst because I know what that grin represents: cockiness, arrogance, and one hell of an ego.”

Both Amanda and Blake were paired together for their final writing assignment much to their dismay. The two of them are constantly at odds with each other and their continual banter was brilliant writing. Their sexual tension and chemistry was absolutely captivating. We soon discover that Amanda and Blake may not be so different after all.

description

“Regardless of who rubbed who first,” I tell her, trying not to smirk at my innuendo, “we need to at least try and get along if this is going to work.” I pause. “Or if anything, at least not to kill each other until the novella is done.”

This was such a fun read which was delivered with quick wit, lovable characters and smart and sexy writing filled with SMUT. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys “enemies-to-lovers” stories and wants to read something fun and hilarious which captures you from the first page. Certainly won’t be my last Karina Halle novel.

This was my third book by Karina, and I really enjoyed it. It was so perfectly fun and sexy. At first, I questioned the title/blurb, since in the beginning, no smut is being written. But it quickly started to make sense.

It was a standalone novel, with a lovable and relatable heroine, and a swoon-worthy but realistic hero. I could see this couple in my mind, and fell in love with them as the story grew.

Simply put, it's sexy, fun, and addictive. Five stars!

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Amanda Newland had a lot to prove to people around her. As an aspiring author, she wanted to be the best in her class, paving the way for her writing future. But that future could be in jeopardy when she was assigned with an enemy as her writing partner.

Blake Crawford was a cocky, charming Brit. He didn't seem to take anything seriously; more interested in chasing skirts than grades. He had a secret ambition and could use her as a part of it. But their secret endeavor might not remain so for long and the truth could possibly halt their future.

I appreciate it when authors evolved and tried different genre because it shows versatility and keep things fresh. I love Karina Halle's romantic suspense book, so I'm glad she managed to successfully venture into romantic comedy.

"It’s hard for girls to focus on anything else except my good looks and big dick.”

Blake was a fun, lovable character. He may be playful but he also had a big heart. I especially love when he riled up Amanda.

Amanda was very endearing. She was serious in meeting her goals but I'm glad how she was willing to open up and take chances.

Writing with her was fun. Fighting with her was even more so. Maybe even hot. And hot is exactly what we need to bring to the table in order to rake in the dough.

I like how their relationship progressed at a good pace and the sex scenes were scorching. The supporting characters were also entertaining. My favorite was Ana, her roommate. Oh also Fluffy of course. And I absolutely love Blake's reaction to Fluffy. Those were priceless moments haha!

Basically, the way I figure so far, if I made up a pen name, found a stock image of a shirtless roid monkey, and wrote a 20-30K novella about some kind of romantic or sexual endeavour, and put it up on Amazon for 99 cents, I could stand to rake in some dough.

Erotica is one of my favorite genres and I always love reading about characters who are authors. So to have two characters with a combination of those is a winner for me. The story was entertaining, poking fun at the genre, but at the same time giving merit to its presence in the writing industry. Some of my favorite scenes were when they brainstormed ideas for pen name and book title and plot. That was hilarious and well, realistic lol!

Smut is an adorkable, light and fun story about two people's journey into publishing erotica. It's a good choice if you're looking for a quick laugh.

Now THAT was a fun enemy to lovers story.

Smut is a fun story about two college students who are paired together for a writing assignment. The unlikely pairing of a nerdy student and a carefree student make for some laugh out loud moments.

A business adventure of writing smut together blossoms after they completed their college writing assignment. They each added something to the story, a formula of some sorts.
"You can't have the sex without the love."
"And you're saying you need me to write the romantic cheesy shit?"

When you need a smile on your face pick up this book and meet Blake and Amanda between the sheets.

If you like the enemies to lovers story line, then this one is for you. Only Blake and Amanda aren't really enemies...they just can't stand each other...or who they perceived each other to be.

Put together in a writing class to come up with a novella, they both really get into the project and before they know it, they become friends. They look forward to seeing each other almost as much as writing.

They turn in their novella and the professor tells Blake what a great job they did and she gives him some things to think about. He starts researching and comes up with a business plan and proposal to Amanda for them to write...erotica books.

It doesn't take long for Amanda to agree (they both have some pretty good reasons) but...it has to be under a pseudonym and pretty soon they are publishing their first book. Of course, it does amazing. (and getting a bit of an inside view was interesting.)

description

They try to fight their attraction to each other but writing erotica really amps things up. And boy, do these two get creative! Pheww...there are some really hot scenes.

Naturally, there's all kinds of drama...drama with ex's, drama with parents, drama with old friends...well, you get the picture. But the biggest drama was something I was a little shocked about.

Fortunately, things work out and there's a great epilogue. Overall, I thought the beginning was a bit slow but liked how things picked up once they were writing their books.

Amanda Newland is a 21 yr. old woman living in Oak Bay, Victoria. She has always been kind of quirky, & considered herself a nerd with her glasses & love of reading. She attends the University of Victoria & spends most of her free time with friends, in the library, or working on the novel she's writing. Her life is nothing extraordinary & she just wants to finish up school & figure out her future & the direction she wants it to take. She is taking a creative writing course she loves. For their final assignment, her teacher decides to pair them up with a partner. She wants them to think outside the box, take risks, & embrace something new. Amanda gets paired up with her least favorite person in the class, Blake Crawford. Blake is an arrogant, manwhore jerk with a sexy British accent & a cheeky grin. He thinks he's god's gift to women & Amanda can't stand him.

 photo BECC25F8-AEED-4DE1-B2E0-AC62128FD245_zpsv7vda1yd.jpg

Blake also isn't thrilled about being partners. He thinks Amanda is a frigid, uptight stick in the mud. He thinks she takes herself way too seriously & always feels like she's judging him. He mainly dislikes her because she doesn't like him. They eventually suck it up & start to work together writing their novella, & realize they are pretty good together. When they collaborate it is something special. Even though they still argue, they ultimately write really well together & are both pleasantly surprised by the others talent. They both feel excited & challenged, & find themselves looking forward to spending time together. Amanda gets a glimpse of the real Blake & she likes what she sees. He's smart, funny & caring.

 photo 6771D0A4-4E6E-4ECE-8FAB-96CB9FCDFF13_zpsb3oqleco.jpg

After they turn in their final project & it's such a success, Blake suggests they team up again, but this time set the indie market on fire & write what sells...sex. They create a pen name & start a secret project writing erotica together. As they are writing, things get a bit steamy. All this sexy writing gets them all hot & bothered and they begin acting out some of their kinky scenes. Their attraction for one another can no longer be contained & they act on their growing desire for one another. It's the hottest sex either has ever experienced & their chemistry is off the charts amazing!

-I wonder if she knows just how alike we really are, how this is something we both need.

-"Did I mention you're insanely talented and I need you desperately."

-"We've got some smut to write."

-I knew it. She's a nerd on the streets and a freak in the sheets.

-"I'll behave."

-"I wish you wouldn't."

 photo 1CC31387-A4EF-41CB-842B-F010AF650EF1_zpsl1pdeya7.jpg

The more time they spend together, the more they realize they have a lot in common. They both develop real feelings beyond the physical, but are still scared of commitment. As Amanda's inner bad girl lets loose and comes out to play, they continue to try & keep their writing & their relationship a secret. Amanda has never felt so alive & she becomes all Blake can think about as he begins to want more with her. Will they confess their feelings to one another & will everyone accept them if their secret is exposed?

 photo 766164E3-E612-4058-9838-B94CC4506A7F_zpsjvcnxg0s.jpg

-Those bloody dimples. He really does wield them like a weapon.

-"I don't think you realize what you do to me."

-For once in my life I've got every single sexual fantasy I've ever wanted.

-He's becoming something more to me.

-She's become everything to me.

The fun side and the hot side were well-balanced.

There was no stupid angst or no drama whatsoever, just a small problem that was solved quickly...

I really had a nice time reading it...

Our characters are, Blake with black hair and blue eyes and Amanda, with cinnamon red hair and glasses... Something like that...

Blake and Amanda take “creative writing” lesson together in college. They don’t like each other at all. Amanda thinks Blake is a man-whore and an as*hole and Blake thinks Amanda is too tight and a nerd.

It was really enjoyable to read about their relationship that started with mutual dislike and then very slowly turned into being friends, then being friends with benefits and then ending up being lovers...

Their partnership begins when Blake and Amanda are first assigned to write a novella in their creative writing course. And after their writing project gets a good grade and they realize they are good together, they don’t want to end their relationship and basically, to earn money, they start to write “SMUT” together, hoping that one day they will have enough money and they will be publishing what they really want to write: Fantasy & Sci-fi horror...

So, they start to write together...
Imagine what can happen when writing “smut”...
The lines between fiction and reality begin to blur, of course :)

Just have a look at their made-up pen names for writing SMUT:

Susie Dicksuck, I.M. Hornay, T. Aint Licker, P. Ennis and Mike Hunt, Turd Ferguson, Homer Sexual, Yuri Nater, Mike Rotch...

Funny, right?

Then there is a bit of romance and feelings...

I put my hand on top of hers and squeeze. “And you’ve got me.”
She rolls her eyes.
“No,” I tell her, my voice rough. She blinks at me in surprise.
“I mean you really have me. If you’ll have me.”

Then there is the steam...

I slowly take her glasses off her face and place them beside us. But she still doesn’t open her eyes.
“He wants her to look at him.”
When she doesn’t, I run the tip of my finger over her lips.
“He wants her to see him.”
I watch her throat move as she swallows.
“He wants to kiss her,” I add. I lower my mouth so it’s just over hers and try to keep my voice steady.
“He wants her to want it.” I pause, very gently brushing my lips over hers. Electric.
“Does she?”

Well, the writing was really good, always keeping you interested, or to be honest, hooked. (There are some editing errors, though.)

It is from dual POV, which is the best if you ask me... The feelings, the lust and the passion were successfully conveyed to the reader. You always know what each character feels or thinks.

If you ever need a “hot & fun read”, then, that’s it...

“His smile is infectious. Then again, so was the plague.”

I’m pretty sure my husband tried to sext me last night while I was finishing this book . . . .

He should know by now that nobody puts Baby in a corner interrupts my reading.

He should also be thankful it took me so many days to actually read Smut because things might end up working in his favor after all. I had every intention of reading this on Friday, because not only was it my birthday, but I had to work and I was just dying for the chance to answer the daily “What are you reading, hmmmmmm?????” question with “SMUT!”, but then work got worky and Cottonmouths was waiting at the library and then maybe Michael Phelps was going to be eaten by a shark on live television and I had to catch up on Big Brother, so I finally circled back to this on Monday. It probably ended up being the best thing that could’ve happened with respect to my enjoyment level too ‘cause the outcome did not look so good when I first started.

It all began with a sad attempt at a proposal . . . .

Followed by projectile vomiting from our female lead that made it pretty clear the answer to the popped question was a definite negatory. Things then fast-forwarded to a creative writing class where our h is disgusted on the daily by the local manbearpig H pretty much just because he exists. Normally that would annoy me, but he drove a car he called “Mr. Mean” and had a British accent that appeared would only come out when he talked about “arses,” so I was kind of crossing my fingers for some more of that vomit and for it to be pointed right his direction. Not that the h wasn’t tired as eff too – with her “cayenne pepper and cinnamon” colored hair . . . .

Let’s just say I was not feeling things. Everything felt like it was trying waaaaaaay too hard. However, when I picked this up after my brief hiatus, things got better. Amanda and Blake got partnered up for a class project (because duh), we learned that Blake was in need of some quick cash and we met Amanda’s roommate Ana . . . .

As well as Blake’s roommate Fluffy . . . .

Things really started looking up when Blake convinced Amanda to team up with him and write some self-published erotica in order to get the albatross of debt that was strangling him off his neck. Their quest for a pen name had me giggling . . . .

Even though they should have went with the obvious choice – Dick Butkiss . . .

Their descriptions of male and female main characters in most pornos was spot on . . .

“Dirty talking alpha male. Extremely large penis. Built like The Rock. A millionaire is good, but a billionaire is better. Make sure he donates to Africa or does some charity work, even though he’s an asshole with a damaged past.”

“Must be a doormat and void of personality or any interesting characteristics so that the reader can interject their own selves. A virgin is preferred, but she must be able to get off on command. Condoms aren’t necessary, but ropes and whips are. She must refer to her vagina as ‘her sex’ and be clenching constantly.”

By the time they started brainstorming plots I thought I might piss my pants . . . .

Spread Open: A Gynecological Love Story - Nelson Dunsmuir was one of the world’s best Navy Seals. But when a mission goes wrong and he loses his best mate, he quits the Seals and decides to go back to his first career – gynecology. The moment Pender Galiano walks into his office needing a pap smear, Nelson knows he has to have the gorgeous virgin. But when old enemies rise up, Nelson has to protect Pender at all costs, even though loving her may cost him his life.”

That’s not to say things were perfect - especially when the two had their first kiss and we learned that Amanada . . .

“tastes gorgeous, like mint and orange.”

Excuse me? MINT and ORANGE?!?!?!?!?!?! Like . . . .

Gross.

But then stuff and things happened . . . .

And I pretty much forgot alllllll about everything that had bothered me because this sucker was hot . . .

3.5 Stars, but rounded down because it took quite a while to remove the initial bad taste in my mouth – even worse than toothpaste and orange juice. Eventually, though?????

Yep. I could. I also got a perverse enjoyment from the talk about 1 and 5 Star reviews when a book isn’t even out yet as well as some spilled tea about someone who “all this time she’s had a blog and leaving authors all sorts of nasty reviews, then gives her own books five stars” . . . . .

I’ll definitely be picking up more Karina Halle in the future. Hear that, porny librarian? I bet you’ve missed me and my demands. It’s been like three days since I harassed you for a new book.

Overall Opinion: This was a fun and light read full of dorky references. It doesn't have much drama, but it doesn't have much depth -- BUT I was fully entertained! They had cute interactions, and I always enjoy the hate-to-friends-to-lovers-to-love theme ;). So for those looking for a low drama, sexy, and something with an unique storyline -- this a good one to pick up!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Amanda and Blake's story. They are in a creative writing class together, and are assigned to write a novella together as a final project. They hate each other, but both admit to themselves that they are attracted to one another and have to get through this project. After some bumps, they end up successfully writing their novella and getting along. They then decide to start a new venture together in writing erotica novellas. They form a friendship that turns into more, and they fall in love. There are some laugh out loud moments, some hot sexy times, and a little drama...but they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Amanda and Blake's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well. It did have the conflict ending right at the end with the epilogue to immediately follow (which I normally hate), but for some reason it didn't bother me as much in this one.

Instalove: No, they progressed into love.

H rating: 4 stars. Blake. I liked how he grew to love the h, and that we got to really experience that. I did have issues with some of his inner dialogue at the beginning about his ex, but I was really happy when that ended and he became all about the h. I loved his interactions with his step-brother and "fluffy"!!

h rating: 4 stars. Amanda. I liked her. She was kind of socially awkward, and a little judgemental -- but aren't we all at times?!? I loved her relationship with her roommate, because I felt it showed her sweet side that she didn't show everyone.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues required.

Push/Pull: Not really

Heat level: Moderate. They take a while to be intimate, but then they have hot chemistry and scenes.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes. They use condoms until they have a birth control, std testing, and monogamous talk.

OW/OM drama: Yes, but mild

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Not really (just mentions of the H being a manwhore before h)

Closure: This had a cute jump ahead epilogue, but it wasn't enough for me to call it a HEA ending. I would call it a HFN ending.

How I got it: I paid the $2.99 on Amazon.

Safety: Safe with exception

#pervsrule #geeksunite

Being an official nerd girl myself, I absolutely adored the leading lady, Amanda, and all her inner-geekiness. She is completely adorkable. Even at the start of the story as a repressed (sexually and otherwise) girl trying hard to fit in - I found her easy to empathize with. Hers is definitely a butterfly story.
Of course no leading lady pervy-nerd-girl is complete without a cocky leading gentlemanwhore.
Blake is her perfect match made in "I think I hate you" heaven. He's charming and funny and acts out in all the right ways. With a repressed inner-nerd of his own, he is the kind of hero that makes my heart race - especially when he whips out his penis perversion &/or brain ;)
There is an amazing chemistry that happens between the characters, and as a reader, I felt swept up in it as well.

If you want to know what happens in the book - read the blurb. What I will tell you is that this entire book is completely tongue-in-cheek (wink, wink) and full of humor. It's Karina's first romantic comedy, but if you've read any of her other books, you'll know that this isn't a hard feat - many of her stories include light-hearted fun. There is an underlying air of seriousness as some of the feelings and themes here represent life changing hurdles. But overall, it's a wonderfully easy read that left me feeling warm and fuzzy horny. LMAO!

I recommend this for everyone.

"4 SmUt stars"

Once you have his cock inside you,
that's pretty much all you'll ever want for the rest of your life.

This book was pretty great!!!
I really enjoyed the whole story line, the characters, their chemistry. Everything was very captivating from the first page, and I liked the whole vibe from enemies to friends to lovers...
description
Blake and Amanda were very enjoyable characters...They had their personal issues and different opinions about life and future but they had one thing in common, they were attracted to each other even though they weren't ready to admit it...The opposite attract right...???

"You're kind of mean, you know that?"
"You've told me."
"Did I tell that I like that?"
"You have."
"And yet you keep doing it."

Oh my God I loved their interactions and their constant bickering about every little thing...
They enjoyed it as much as we did...in the inside...
description
I liked the second characters as well and all the crazy situations they were involved...But my best and worse favorite was "Fluffly", every time I read about him I was like Blake I felt it all over me! But I admit that Blake and Amanda and Fluffy were very funny together!!!
description
The other thing that I enjoyed and got a little hot and bothered were the way they wrote their smut books and then act on them trying to imitate the scenes! HOT! HOT! HOOOT!
description
"But I've felt you squeeze my tongue as you came, like you were milking it.
My cock is jealous."

description
There's nothing like the feel of his raw, hard cock inside me.
I just hope I haven't scared that cock away."

description
"All right so we still need a pen name.
And I have just the one."
"What?"
"Amanda Lovecox. Unless you don't love cocks."
"I'm not going to answer that. Blake Lovecox."
"I only love my own."

This book was great and I liked everything about it!Blake was amazing even though he was an asshole in the beginning I liked him, and I loved him even more when he started to have feelings for Amanda. Amanda was great too, but I had a soft spot for Blake and his antics! The story is told from dual point of view and very refreshing I might say! This is me in every scene with Blake and Amanda...
If you can't tell I enjoyed them...

Here's my rewritten review.

I absolutely love this book. The first time I read this, I gave it four stars, but then, I couldn't stop thinking about Smut. Smut is absolute perfection when it comes to the banter, the flirting, and honestly, the sexual tension. My gosh I feel my grin appear on my face every single time I read this.

This book seriously deserves five stars. I can't believe I read this one year apart but I love this book and fall in love with it even more. Chef's kiss, absolute perfection, 10/10 would give it 10 stars if Goodreads ever created 10 star reviews.

First read: March 23, 2020 to March 24, 2020
Second read: March 9, 2021 to March 10, 2021

2018 Romance Challenge

Category: Enemies to Lovers

4.5 fucking filthy Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed Smut, I think it may be my favourite (all around) book that I’ve read so far in 2018.

It’s very tongue-in-cheek and it’s definitely not taking itself too seriously. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, Halle is probably taking the piss out of herself on many occasions in this story. On top of that, it has a cast of characters that I both adore and side-eye HARD.

I actually can’t decide what my favourite part of this rom-com is: the romance or the comedy. Between our female lead’s friend Rio and her makeshift saranwrap bra and her roommate’s make-up application debacles, I may argue that the side characters are even more interesting than the main ones. In any case, they make for comedic gold. I was laughing so hard during Ana’s rundown of her wonderful date that I was crying and having difficulty breathing; a fact which The Beast found adorably concerning until I explained why I had such a serious case of the Lolz. And then he laughed too. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, HE. LAUGHED. TOO.

Now let’s add the fact that our love interests are amazing to the mix.

Amanda is a card-carrying member of the geek squad and she takes her writing class extremely seriously. So, when her final project pairs her with the class playboy, Blake, who never appears to take anything but chasing tail seriously she’s pissed. She immediately tries to figure out how she has slighted the professor to earn such a partner and then at the end of class tries to talk her way out of it. Failing that, she tries to take a higher (although, somewhat snotty) road by emailing him to set up story structure and meeting time for organizing their project.

His smile is infectious. Then again, so was the plague.

Blake is less than impressed by this email; and more than a little drunk when he responds to it. The next day they meet up and, unsurprisingly, Amanda is livid with him about his response. God, I love how these two bicker. How they circle each other – this is a fabulous enemies to lovers situation. As is common in the trope, they both severly misunderstand each other much of the time.

I really enjoyed the way the overall novel played off the novel they were writing within its pages. Even though I am a huge perv, I still think my favourite scene is the one I quoted in my status. I found Blake entirely endearing. And his mouth….. oh my gawd his filthy, filthy mouth. GIVE. HIM. TO. ME!

I adored that this was set in Victoria, British Columbia (a place that I have visited which is not all too far away from me). It’s always cool to be able to relate in that way to a book, and I believe this was a first in a romance for me.

There is an extremely high amount of friskie-mittens-in-public, or as I just re-dubbed it “Public-Pouncing”, in this novel…. Which I fucking LOVE! Blake is genuinely game to explore any of her fantasies, which is just super endearing and adorable. Just an all around fun read!
