"Secret Places of the Lion" is one of the seminal works of crackpottery that launched the "ancient astronaut" craze of the 1970s, popularized by the ridiculous, plagiaristic books of Erich von Daniken. Williamson's premise that a race of alients have guided the development of civilization throughout history is intriguing, sort of, though would be better left in the realm of fiction. The problem is the book is nearly incomprehensible. Exactly what, for instance, IS a Secret Place of the Lion, a phrase repeated over and over in all-caps? And, as Chico Marx might have once asked, "Why a lion? Why-a no chicken?" This ranks right down there with the never-ending series of "Mu" books cranked out (how else?) by James Churchward in the 1920s and 30s.

The history of the Egyptians was interesting but the rest of the book was ridiculous!

You really have to know Bible history and even the occult history of the Bible and other religions to follow it. Otherwise, most people would just toss aside in frustration. It’s a difficult book to get though

This 1956 book is full of mostly rubbish and no footnotes or bibliography! If you haven't read it, pass on it!

I love a good conspiracy book, but this is not it! I made it 58 pages into this worthless drivel before throwing it aside. The author can't even string together a coherent sentence. Hard pass.

When I picked this book up, I thought I'd get a kick out of it. "Alien influences on Earth's destiny"?! I'm there! I usually read this type of subject with a grain of salt, for entertainment mostly. It started off interesting enough, then got really boring fast. I could only manage to get to page 60-something and couldn't take any more punishment. This book even inspired me to create a new shelf, "unreadable". And that doesn't happen very often where I can't possibly finish a book. Out of hundreds of books, I can count how many books I could not finish on one hand. And I'm pretty compulsive about finishing books front to back, regardless of how boring and/or long they are. Lord knows I tried folks, but I found myself thinking to myself what a complete waste of time, there are way to many important, far more entertaining/interesting books out there to read...
