Quick review here. Loved the characters in this romance. Strong, multi dementional characters with wonderful story line. A romance that was sweet, spicy and rich in feeling.

Marion was a determined yet gentle and kind heroine who wanted to be loved and have a family. Iain was a strong (with a hidden sweet side) Scott who lost the wife he loved and swore he'd never love again. The two are forced/made to marry. The romance is a lovely thing to behold in that it builds and grows from attractio
marion and Iain (and his dead wife, Catriona... roll my eyes)
I will admit to skimming the first half a fair bit. (I am a chicken shit sometimes... but not as much as Iain is a chicken shit for the first half of the book!)
Not nearly the worst stubborn widower story I've read, and in the middle third he moves on. He also just couldn't resist Marion (and not just sexually (about 1/3 in)) in the beginning either. OTT possessive and protective all the while he tells himself he will never love her. Th

Excellently written highlander romance. It had such great characters a very good story. Well recommended.
4 stars 🌟

After reading some 'not so good' CR in a row, I decided it was high time I picked up a HR. And I cannot say how glad I am that I did.

Originally, I had planned for something by Julie Garwood but this was one high on the Amazon recommendation, so I decided to give this a try and I'm happy to say that I enjoyed the hell out of this one.

Though very similar to The Bride by JG, this book was unique in its own way. I'm planning on binge reading the series soon! :-)

I am sorry to say I did not like When A Laird Loves A Lady!! The storyline was not appealing to me at all.

Lady Mairon de Lacy has been order by her father Baron deLacy to marry Sir William Froste. A man she can't abide. After pleading with her father and he ruthlessly beating her Marion fakes her death.

Iain MacLeod has tried in vain to gain the release of the Scottish King David from his imprisonment in England. King Edward of England has demanded that Iain marry Baron de Lacy's daughter Marion

When I heard that author, Julie Johnstone was writing a medieval tale with a brooding Scottish rogue, I was elated. I truly enjoy everything Ms. Johnstone has written and consider her a go-to author.

When a Laird Loves A Lady is a fabulous first in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series. Two very different people not so different in their wants and desires. Marion de Lacey is being used by her father for a means to his misguided ends and Marion wants no part of it. Her traitorous father ha

There are some reading material that I will drop everything for. It just so happen that When a Laird Loves a Lady was one of them. Hot, hunky, highland lover tops the charts for reads that I have to have. And let us not for get the sexy brogue. I have this one on my must read again and again. I look forward to each new addition to this series. I will keep a look out.

Love in the Highlands with a Reluctant Laird

Set in 1357 in Scotland, this is the story of Marion de Lacy, a woman who is half Scot but raised by her English father who paid her little attention. When he attempts to force a marriage upon her to an evil knight, she escapes with the help of her friend, Angus, who wants her to join the MacLeods of Skye. Before she can reach them, she’s captured by the knight.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. I give 5 stars when the book is well written, very minor grammar or editing errors, and when the story holds my attention and I want to read it all in one sitting.

Marion de Lacy, 1/2 English, 1/2 Scot, is ordered by King Edward to marry Scottish Laird Iain MacLeod as her father plots to take Edward's throne. Iain agrees to marry her in the hope that Edward will release King David of Scotland. Iain is a widower and has swo

I’m actually writing this review 4 1/2 years after I first read the book.
I’ve learned in my many readings of it that i never tire of it. It just improves every reading.

The characters are full of passionate chemistry and have wonderful personalities that endear them to you.

Marion and Iain are made for each other.
Lachlan, Cameron, Graham and Bridget make you long for future books that are planned and now written in this series.

Excellent book can’t recommend it enough.

When A Laird Loves A Lady is #1 in the exciting new "Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts" series. WOW! What a fast paced, set on the edge of your seat, passion filled, adventuous, dangerous and romantic story. With betrayal, treason, treachery and amidst it all hopefully, love. What more could a Medevial Romance fan wish? Can love find it's way into the heart of a unyielding Highlander, Lain MacLeod, who has lost so much, including his frail but beloved wife? Then, he's commanded to marry an Engli ...more

This was a gritty and intriguing story. Because of the lack of love in her home life, Marion wanted only to marry for love. Her father has other plans. Iain lost the love of his life and is determined to never love again. The fates do not again. To rescue his King, Iain must marry Marion as part of a strategic alliance. Marion and Iain fight their feelings through their adventures until there is no question. At points throughout the story, I felt so connected to some of the characters and I look ...more

This actually turned out to be quite the delightful little historical romance. I downloaded it free from Kindle about a two month's back. I was in the mood for something new and decided to try this one. I'm glad I did because I really ended up liking the book.

Our hero, Iain, has vowed to never love anyone again or marry anyone again, but when he has to marry someone to help free his king David, from captivity, he agrees. He doesn't think anyone can touch his heart again, and swears no one will.

Fascinating heartwarming and emotional story that I simply could not put this book down! This was a first novel I ever read by the talented Julie Johnstone, but it certainly won't be the last as I whole heartedly absolutely loved this book! The author did such impressive and remarkable research on the Clan MacLeod history and as they did reside at Dunvegan Castle which is on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Now if ever visiting Scotland, they do offer tours to visit this beautiful castle surrounded ...more

Oh, the feels from this book. Marion de Lacey is a lovely blend of sweet and feisty, but without acting irrationally. She just wants to be loved for who she is. Why is that so much to ask? I can't fathom living in a time period where women were treated as property, so these stories always fascinate me. When an author takes a woman from these time periods and makes her strong ... ah, a match made in heaven. I love it.

I almost didn't read this book because of a few of the reviews that expressed fr

I adore Ms. Johnstone's writing and when I heard she was going to write her first Medieval story, I did a happy dance and was not disappointed.

As with her other books, the scenes are descriptive. The characters are ones you can relate to even when you want to wring their necks. The story has the right blend of emotion and humor. There's treachery and treason at work and I was immediately drawn into this world and didn't want to stop reading until the end. The heroine, Marion, is beaten but not b

I always love Julie Johnstone's books. This time she wrote about my favourite historical genre: medieval romance so I enjoyed it even more than ever! Marion and Ian are two strong characters, full of life, idealists and very afraid to love. He lost her first wife, Catriona and he feels he cannot love again. She tried to win her father's love without any success.

The book is fast -paced, full of action and an amazing plot! I loved it!

The second characters are also amazing and makes me wonder whose

Iain could be a sweet man, intimidating, but sweet, “be still a minute, Marion. I’m intent on being slow and tender with ye, but if ye move at all, I’m afraid I’ll take ye like a mindless beast, I want ye that much.” Iain had his moments of crazy man tantrums but for the most part he was sweet, “ye are mine always,” he growled, sweeping her legs up over his arms. “But I’ll be happy to answer yer plea one touch at a time.” I enjoyed this book I liked Iain I can't wait to see if Bridgette gets a b ...more

*sigh* I just love good historical romances. My favorites are the Highlander or westerns.

This one was amazing. It was a freebie and I rarely have good luck with those but I was very pleased and rushed over to buy the other six in the series!

Iain's an ass for a good chunk of the book but when he pulls his head out of his ass he's amazing.

Marian's totally a Julie Garwood Mary Sue but I actually don't mind those heroines so I was perfectly happy.

Granted I also adore insta-love, stalkers/obessions,

Julie has written a masterpiece here. The way the words of this story flowed and intertwined beautifully is mesmerizing. I could not put this book down because each page is a mystery that has me eager to turn the next page to find out what is going to happen next.

He felt as if he had suddenly been robbed of his ability to breathe. His lungs tightened. Love. He had no use for the emotion or the word. It pained him to know what he was about to say would hurt her, but he wanted to be certain she understood. ‘I want no part of love.’ She quickly glanced back up at him, her gaze locking with his, and her lips parted slightly. ‘You cannot mean that.’ The misery that still haunted him from losing Catriona wedged especially heavey in this moment when faced with ...more

I love reading historical romance fiction and this one is fantastic. I loved reading about Marion and how her Father was going to marry her off to someone that she didn’t love because of land, that is how they did it back in the 1300’s. I love how Marion’s attitude is and

First of all, I love Julie Johnstone’s books. This highly talented author grabs the reader and transports them into a different world. This is a one sitting read and reread permanent keeper shelf book. These characters are full of passionate sparks, tempers igniting, danger, and excitement. The story flows perfectly from beginning to end. This is a perfectly executed romance that leaves you wanting more of Julie Johnstone.
