Lauren Dane has been writing stories since she was able to use a pencil, and before that she used to tell them to people. Of course, she still talks nonstop, and through wonderful fate and good fortune, she’s now able to share what she writes with others. It’s a wonderful life!

The basics: Lauren is a mom, a partner, a best friend and a daughter. Living in the rainy but beautiful Pacific Northwest, she spends her late evenings writing like a fiend when she finally wrestles all of her kids to bed.

I'm rating this book 2 stars. The characters were average. Honestly I felt indifferent to them and the whole entire book. I really wanted to like this but this book was just a fail to me instead. My biggest issue with this book was that sometimes I felt like I was reading Romeo and Juliet. And not in a good way. The relationship just didn't feel real to me. I get that their "mates" but their relationship felt like a 6 year old fantasy + smut. No offence to the author. This read wasn't enjoyable and definitely lacked in many places.

The same things to like or dislike in book one are back for more condemnation or praise for this installment of what I now think was a too short-lived series. Four years have passed between installments and Laurent 's chance meeting with his mate in artist/waitress Rain Foster (for some reason I kept reading as Rain Forest) that prompts another visit to the lodge. Their courtship was smooth as they both decided they were in the relationship for keeps but did have to deal with the intrigue of Rain's past as a runaway Mafia Princess.

Chemistry was great between the leads and a visit with the characters from book one made me wish this series continued a little longer. The pacing worked well and didn't linger on any one topic. As well as I liked Rain, I thought things were too extreme for her character (either exceedingly good or exceedingly bad making me miss the middle parts of life's day to day minutia). Also Rain seemed like a paler, more fun-loving version of Kari completely with the same issues of shifter-hood. And the menage which threaded into the story smoothly, didn't run smoothly for my taste.

It could have been one of my moods but I just couldn't finish this. The whole thing reads like cheese.

In fact the characters (mainly our heroine Rain) talk like they are still in highschool. And yet, he is suppose to be over 30. Example this was the dialogue after our MCs first had sex:

"So hey, um, well I meant to say, we just met and everything so it's sort of fast, but, are we dating or just going out?"

"[...] I mean, even if you did, you would still be handsome and stuff."

"Thank you for making love to me. Or was it f***ing? I mean, I'm not up on all of this relationship stuff."
Who thanks a guy after sex? He obviously enjoyed himself too. Instead of being bliss out sated after mind blowing sex, she is supposedly babbling because she is nervous. And even if I were to, at age 35, start to babble because I am nervous, I would probably babble a little more like the grown up that I am. Her babbling goes on for her to talk about how long since she had sex and how many times she had it with her ex.

Yah I'm out.

It's official. I am a true werewolf convert now. I didn't think anything could be hotter than the first book in this series, Ascension, but Ms. Dane has done it again. Laurent and Rain (aka Julia) were so hot that when they touched, electricity flickered! I loved their story. Laurent, who is Andreas's (the alpha of the pack)third, sees Rain and determines she's his mate. However, he's unaware that she's running from her dangerous past. He woos and pursues her, and she falls fast. Once she's turned, their lives seem perfect. But her past comes screaming back into the present and crashes in on their perfect union. I found this book an excellent follow-up and hope another installment follows. Ahh...to find a place where men like those in the Cherchez pack exist, would be shear heaven.

This book is being re-edited and has been heavily revised from the original edition. Here's a little favorite snippet from about 1/3 of the way into the book. I love this because it shows just how much Laurent loves this heroine.

“I love you, deeply, passionately, intensely. I will protect you to my dying breath. I’d never leave you unprotected. Second of all you’re part of the Cherchez Clan, we protect our own. Third, Kari would never forgive me if I let you run off. Last, I want to have sex with you nonstop for at least the next week and I couldn’t do that if you left. So get any plans of running off out of your head. We’ll find a way to deal with your father, just give us time to find some weak spots to exploit.”

Oh Laurent I loved you, "did you see that? He touched my woman!" Laurent growled." He has more animal tendencies then Andreas did, "his co** ached and he had to wrestle back the urge to stalk in, grab her and stalk out to eff her against the nearest surface." And it amuses how he reacts to Rain's moods, "Laurent cringed. "You get vulgar when you're jealous. Remind me to never underestimate you. Yes. She and I had sex." And he's all for pleasing his woman especially when she's horny like 24/7 "feeling better, baby? Can you hold off for another hour or so?" He chuckled and she arched a brow." I'm hoping to see more books from this series I'd love to see Phillip get a book as well as Skyler.

Augh! wanted to like it but geez I kept cringing and ranting at the gag worthy sacchariness of the dialogue. I love paranormal romances and yes the whole instant connections for mates are a staple fantasy; but geez the connection felt like a fluffy toothachingly artificially sweetened bit of fantasy. There is a lots & lots of sex, beautiful people, jealousy, violent drug addicted ex-fiance, overbearing fathers, fantactically talanted artist...and nothing makes me like it. As I have borrowed the audio version I just let it play as I do work around the house...really tempted to just stop and return it unfinished.

This book started out pretty good, but as it continued on, I was struggling to finish it. I listened to this book on YouTube as a free audiobook, and one of the comments on the video said no man will ever compare to the ones in this book; that is true and kept me reading this book.

However, it felt like the author could have done so much more with the plot. Yes Rain is running from her past, but throughout the book it just kind of seems like something in passing and not truly that serious, as in it isn't really elaborated that much to create more of a thickening story. Instead the book is mainly about the romance with the characters, I get that it is a romance book, however like a lot of other reviews say it just feels so cheesy. The romance is rushed feeling like only days had gone by in the story, giving a sense of child-like immaturity rather than destined love and romance.

I wish the author would have given the characters longer time to get to know each other or face more challenges or something rather than just hitting the sheets, and when they do, it also seems like the author reuses the same vocabulary and continuously says the same thing every time not really making those sense that interesting.

I also TRULY wish the author would have spent more time on the actual plot! that really would have made the book so much better! It is like 98% of this book was the romance and that small 2% maybe like 4 pages max is the actual plot, ya know the thing that makes the story. She really could have done so much more with it or dragged it on a bit longer at the end, or made it seem like a bigger deal in the beginning, like maybe giving some more of a backstory on Rain's father?

Ok know I said I'd give it a chance geesh..the writer goes from serial killer kidnap mode. To fake true love b.s., onto the forced fake porn crap, down to the disgusting orgy hoe shite. Smh. It's crazy. All this fake family this and close knit family that. My gosh, pretty sure most fam members aren't fckn each other, and FrontN. Like it's true love or family shyt. I won't lie I'm a little disgusted by the guy and her ditz brain actions or weakness. He sounds like a real piece of work. And the sex comes off as fake and try n too hard. There's no romance or anything left to the imagination. Things aren't blending and there's no history being added to help move story along. Believe me I really want to like the characters. But that's missing too, there's nothing that draws to in to make care for or like the guy. And now at the end, I can't even finish this trashy book. So now with her and her kids in mortal danger, she's all Abt fckn everybody and we're supposed to have such respect and kneel for her. At first I thot she was faking it or they're planning a trap, but after she's kissing him and doing a threesome. I had to close the book can't finish all the Hustler magazine porn crap. It's disjointed.

I would have given this 3 stars because it was a decent steamy read, but the last 1/4th really shit the bed. Normally I'm not into trigger warnings, but the graphic miscarriage scene really warranted one.
It was too much for me. As it was starting I was like wow this is really violent, but it will be okay. MC will kick ass and save herself and her baby, no way it could go any ither way! But no, MC is brutally beaten, hemorrhaging everywhere and looses her baby. I was absolutely stunned and appalled. If he's part of what drove the plot, I could be more understanding. For example, if it was towards the beginning and the driving factor in a revenge plot or something. That would make sense and it would serve a purpose. This had NO purpose other than be traumatic. Didn't move the plot along, and the little character and relationship development that occurred was quickly abandoned. So glad I didn't recommend this book to a werewolf loving friend who is very infertile. I would never read this again, and if it hadn't been on audio book I wouldn't have finished. And then what, after some 2 months or something MC is ready to jump back in the sack and make babies? What a smack in the face.

I'm fairly certain that this one book contains the most tropes I've ever come across in one story and I read a lot. There were a number of times I had to stop just to laugh at just how unhinged this book got and nearly dnf'd a few times, but decided to continue because it was so unintentionally funny.

We get instalove from a werewolf, found family, mafia princess running from her old life to become a waitress by day artist by night, bad communication specifically from the MMC, surprise pregnancy right after being turned into a werewolf and they have reduced gestational periods so the GMC starts feeling the baby super early, FMC abduction by her abusive ex that causes a pregnancy loss, and then just for a little extra sumthin sumthin vampires exist.

3/5

Ugh, save me from myself and my stupid decision to download an erotic novel because it was available and I was in the mood for some smut. I ended up skipping pages throughout the course of the book, skipping the entire section about Rain’s mafia family kidnapping her and shooting her and all that messiness. It felt like someone pushed the fast forward button on this story and everything happened in turbo speed: Rain and Laurent meet, have ONE date, they f*{k, meet the “family”, fight, make up, more sex, get married, transform, f*{k in front of like 20 people, get pregnant, lose baby, go on vacay, more sex, threesome, more sex, another pregnancy, a baby, the end. I really wanted to enjoy the 3some and was placing bets whether it would be Skye or Phillip but it just didn’t hit the spot. Now I’m going to go bang my head against the wall for making stupid reading decisions.

Some of the things that macho men do believing they are right. Laurent and Rain's chemistry is off the charts. They are off to a rough start given the fact that he doesn't want to scare her off but when she see things that she doesn't understand he may not have a choice. The man thst she was promised to does not make it any better to stay hidden especially he has hurt before and is on a mission to find her and hurt her to make her come under heel.

A+ for fantasy, A+ for erotica, but C- for how the story dragged on; the story line was soo hot, with soo many delicious twist and turns, but the only thing that made it seem like the never ending story was all that history about werewolves. Just a little bit too much, but enjoy dear reader and judge for yourself.

This was a good followup to the first book, but about half way thru, the constant attraction became a little sappy. I was hoping for more but there doesn't seem to be any more in this series... bummer.

The story line is really good but it seems like the author didn't have enough for the book for the publisher so she went and got a Forum and just started adding storys out of it.
