Emma Gentry felt like she was losing her mind. From the time she had picked up the pretty ring to examine it, she’d been hearing a voice in her head. When she ran from the demolished building, she’d slipped the ring on her finger so that she wouldn’t drop it, now she couldn’t get it off. She was in dire need of medical attention, but the voice wouldn’t let her stop to get help. There were others looking for the ring and would kill her for it. Emma was on the run.
Kenton McCade was the doctor in the family. When found Emma in his office treating a badly infected wound on her leg, he had to help her. The infection had spread and she was near death.
Kenton and his brothers were dragon shifters born without the ability to shift into their other half. The magic, it seemed, lay dormant in a sleeping dragon that was tied to six pieces of jewelry. When the ring found its way to Emma, her touch had woken the sleeping beast. When Emma touched Kenton’s sigil on his chest, he shifted to his beast for the first time. But the beast from the ring would not be complete until all the jewelry found its way to their rightful dragons….
Emma was still on the run…they need her to survive…but Emma trusted no one…

Yay we have a another fantastic series by Kathi Barton.......this is book one in the McCade Dragon paranormal romance series...
Emma Gentry had been living a good life when her rotten brother Bart pretty much makes her a prisoner forcing her to work in the basement of a building owned by her mob family. While inspecting some stolen jewelry....Emma find a beautiful ring. From the moment she touches the ring, Emma hears a voice in her head. When the building explodes, she escapes with some serious injuries. Now Emma must run for her life, as she is hunted by unknown bad guys.
McCade big brother Kenton is the doctor of the clan and a good one at that. He discovers a beautiful woman who has just broken into his medical clinic in search of help for her injured leg. Feeling the woman is in danger, Kenton promises to help her.
All six of the McCade brothers are dragon shifters, unable to shift to their dragons is a mystery. Yet, when Emma touches Kenton his dragon comes to life. The key to this tale lies in several pieces of jewelry that all must come together in order for mystery of the dragon to be solved.
This is a really cute story filled with all sorts of evil doers and danger. I look forward to reading the rest of this series to uncover this puzzle.
It's bad, really bad. Horribly written too. It needs a damn good editing and a whole lot more sense. Anyone who says any different has never read a decent novel before. Holy shit, it's bad!
If you follow my reviews then you've noticed I'm working my way through Kathi S. Barton's back catalog with all the series I've not read so far. 'Kenton' is the first book in "The McCade Dragon" series and it shows just how versatile and extraordinary Ms. Barton's creativity will go. Emma Gentry was working in the basement of the building her dad owned with her brother as her cruel and sadistic taskmaster. When she was brought a ring and a demand for its estimated worth, her temper came out with caused her painful consequences. During this confrontation, her brother tossed everything on her desk onto the floor causing the ring to roll under her desk. Normally she would have left whatever it was where it fell until her brother left but this time she bent over to retrieve it just as the floor and building started to shake, rumble, and then collapse. As she, and everything laying around her, was thrown and painfully land in a new spot the ring rolled until it fit itself to the first knuckle of her finger. That's when she started hearing the voice in her head telling her she needed to get up and move out of there or be killed soon. Thinking she had died and was having a conversation with herself the voice nagged enough to get her moving. Now all she had to do was return the ring to its rightful owner according to the voice but it would help her and keep her safe. It's a good thing too because along the way her hotel room was shot up and she had to evacuate quickly and then once again people were killed at a hospital she had gone to for medical treatment for the infected cut on her leg. Finally reaching her destination she finds out she is truly under attack and even though she found the owner of the ring, she can no longer take it off. You see, there is magic in the jewelry and not just this one piece. There are a total of six in all: the ring, earrings, a broach or pin, a bracelet, hair combs, and torques. They are the inheritance of the McCade Dragons and once they are all brought together then their dragon becomes complete. Following along so far? Kenton and his family are dragon shifters but their magic doesn't allow them to shift to their dragon counterpart, that is not until Emma meets Kenton and touches his sigil. Now he's able to shift but cannot use his wings. It seems each piece of jewelry brings the magic for one specific bit of magic for the dragon. Of course, you know there has to be a villain who knows of the legend of these pieces and what they're worth monetarily. The chase is on. Not only that but there are several members of Emma's family who are not what they appear to be … or maybe they are. There's great chemistry between these two characters along with the suspense of the legend and the repercussions of finding the actual jewelry. This first book is enticing and exciting with all the twists and turns in the plot and promises to be an epic series. I'm looking forward to reading 'Jorden' next.
Oh Emma, you poor woman. She was living a pretty normal life until she was forced to leave college and work for her family. Her brother, Bart Jr., is an evil man and continually lies and hurts Emma. Upon being given a ring by her brother to appraise, there's just something about it that speaks to her, literally. *you'll see* When given the opportunity to flee, Emma, with some prodding, takes it and goes on a quest a la Frodo. *smirk yes, I'm a nerd and proud of it. LOL*
When she reaches her destination, of which she believes is just a stop to help herself to some much needed medical supplies, she meets Jorden, an artist, and his brother, Kenton, a doctor.
Kenton does everything he can to help her and it isn't long before a piece of himself, one that has been missing from his family for a long time, makes an appearance and he knows it has something to do with Emma and a story that his grandda always told him and his brothers. It also seems like Kenton is feeling a mite possessive of Emma now too. *ooh, that's interesting*
Now, not only is Emma in fear for her life, she's also discovering that dragons do exist, and experiencing some very powerful feelings for Kenton. Kenton, in turn, is trying to adjust to his just as powerful feelings for Emma, ones that his dragon are in agreement on, and keep Emma, and his family, safe. Phew, they have got their hands full.
Will Kenton keep everyone safe? Will Emma accept that her life is changing, finally, for the better? Will Emma's remaining family continue on their path to destroy Emma or will they realize they've been misled? Who else is after Emma? Will Emma ever be completely free of her biological family?

This was such an amazing read that I could not put it down until I finished the very last sentence. The characters are amazing and when I got to the end of the book, I wanted to know more about these awesome characters. The story grabbed me and kept me interested and entertained from beginning to end, I was sad when I got to the end, I needed more. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book in this amazing series, this book has to be read.
To me this story felt different from all of her other books & or series. To me Kenton & Emma's story was a little to slow for my taste & this story didn't have a lot of sex scenes in it as all of her other books have had in the past. I don't know if she decided to change her writing style but I don't feel that this book was written by Kathi S. Barton.
I've never given any of her books under 4 or 5 stars, but I was disappointed with this story.
Kenton is a dragon that can't shift; in fact all of his brothers are that way also. There are supposed to be pieces of jewelry that will make their way towards all of the brothers & the jewelry also come with a woman & some trouble. Emma is the 1st of those women that come into the McCade's life & she has been abused by her family all of her life. When Kenton & Emma meet it's when she breaks into his clinic because she has an infection in her leg & the fact that the dragon in the ring that she's wearing told her too. It only takes what feels like a day for them to fall in love & to me from reading all of Ms. Barton's other books this seemed to be a little rushed.
This book does contain lots of deaths real & fake, a couple of sex scenes, a good vs bad plot (as Emma's biological mother is evil), & the hero's tight family background. In some ways this book also felt like I had read something like this before. I don't know if I will read the next book in this series, but if I do I just hope that it's better than this one.

What's a woman to do when someone's out to kill her and the imaginary voice is leading her towards her destiny?
Emma Gentry is an awesome main character. Even though she's had a shit life she won't allow anyone to walk over her. She's a woman who will stand up for those she believes are hers and loves her man and new family harder than any other woman could.
**"Her mouth dried up and her heart rate tripled. Christ, did all doctors look like this guy? And if so, why the hell didn't she go to see them more often?"**
Kenton McCade is a dragon-shifter who can't shift, until he comes in contact with Emma. He may be a doctor, but when it comes to protecting his family of his mate, he will kill anyone. Kenton is probably one of my favorite male characters so far Kathi has written.
**I think you have very lovely girl parts. In fact, I really like all the parts that make you who you are."**
This book made me laugh, made my heart break, and most of all made me fall in love with the characters. I can already tell this will most likely be at the top of my favorite series by Kathi <3
**"You hold within you all that I am. You know that. But you also hold all that I will every be. My love, my heart, even my body and soul."**
Not at all what I expected but well worth the surprise. Emma comes off as a beaten female but underneath she has a spine of steel. Kenton is unsure what to do with Emma, based on his research her family is no good and he wants her far away from his family. Fate however has another path and destiny can not be avoided. I really enjoyed this new series. The twist with the jewelry is clever and is sure to produce some interesting stories. The interaction between the characters are sometimes intense and there are quite a few instances that will have you smiling while you laugh. I had a great time picture the faces of these dragon brothers when Emma does something to surprise them. I thought it was written well and set up the continuing series quite well. I am looking forward to seeing who the next brother is to fall.
Book One of a series I am going to LOVE!! Because I Love This Book!! The two main characters are complex yet easily understood.. Emma the female love interest of our Shifter Dragon has the worst life and is emotionally and physically hurt. Kenton the doctor is a dragon but is unable to shift, and he's one of 6 male dragons born to a wise and awesome female dragon.. Aisha..who raised her sons with a firm and loving heart and hand. Emma is hurt in an accident and a ring that she was inspecting is stuck on her finger and it is the key to this adventure of love, mystery and danger that she and Kenton will experience in this amazing story. I don't give any spoilers because I hate to hear or read too much about a book .. cause then I don't enjoy it.. But this is a book you will enjoy from the start to the finish!!
Kenton: The McCade Dragon -Erotic Paranormal Romance
on the plus -- the heroine had spunk & found her backbone fairly quickly (if got a little too tough too fast maybe); the series concept is interesting as is how the author introduces & works it; fast pace & enjoyable story on the negative -- while the hero is likable, didn't get a real depth of char (almost felt like prominent secondary char rather than one of the primary ones); the villains of the story where numerous and who & how they were scamming or double crossing (or where they?) was bit convoluted and confusing at times. overall good read, will most likely try to remember to read the next installment when it comes out to see how dragon all comes together.
Kenton McCade is a Doctor and a dragon shifter but can't shift until his piece of jewelry is found. Emma is near death from an infection. She is also in the possession of a ring that she swears talks to her. Someone else wants the ring and will kill for it.
Can Kenton save Emma from the infection? Can Emma survive? This is another great start to a series by the awesome Kathi S Barton and I would recommend to everyone as a must read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Kenton and Emma were excellent characters. In the beginning, I thought they were both going to be rather submissive, especially Emma, but the more I read the more their dominant personalities showed. I loved when Emma confronted the vampires. That was fantastic, especially as she did not realize what she had done. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
Don't know how she does it but a great new series with murder meyham and a treasure hunt. Great new family with a kickass mother as well. Look foreward to future books but with all the on going new series it could be a while.
This series is a little different than the other series. The MaCade's are missing something and it's going to take some strong women to help. Very good beginning to a fantastic new series.
Kathi S Barton writes the most fascinating, intriguing and riveting storylines ever! I'm always happy to go on the adventures with the characters on the journey to find happiness and true love!
Not the best start to a series that I have read but by no means was it horrible. It does have potential and I am hoping the writing becomes more...(?), there was enough to pique my interest to mark 'Jorden', number 2 in the series, to TBR.
Murder, Money & Sex. This new series is going to blow your mind. This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. Great start can't wait for the next. Beware of the Dragon!
