The war in Iraq stole Evan Silva’s voice. His teammates accept him as is—a SEAL with more shrapnel wounds in his soul than on his body, who’s perfectly happy to let the other guys do all the talking necessary to run the adventure-excursion company the six of them co-own.
Rachel Blume is a different story. The sexy lawyer refuses to be put off by Evan’s strong, silent routine, and soon, she’s introducing a whole new level of non-verbal communication that Evan can’t resist. Slowly, she strips away his barriers, only to reveal secrets that Evan never intended to share…especially not with a woman he’s afraid he’s falling for…
USA Today bestselling author Kat Cantrell read her first Harlequin novel in third grade and has been scribbling in notebooks since she learned to spell. What else would she write but romance?
When she's not writing about characters on the journey to happily ever after, she can be found at a taekwondo tournament, watching Big Bang Theory or dancing with her kids to Duran Duran and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Kat, her husband and their two boys live in North Texas. She was the first Harlequin So You Think You Can Write winner and a former RWA® Golden Heart® finalist for best unpublished series contemporary manuscript.
Kind of bored with this. I just finished reading it and I can't even remember their names, I have to really think about it or go back to the blurb.
I wasn't a fan of Rachel. She was way too pushy and annoying. She seemed so desperate. She didn't even want him long term just for a quick fling to get him out of her system. 1. That never works and 2. Uhh what made her think that he was the type of guy to have a fling when he barely spoke to anyone? Evan whose name I had to re-read the blurb for was too much with the unworthy excuses. I don't go for the whole martyr push and pull stuff. I also thought he wouldn't be speaking for a good portion of the book. I figured she'd get him to finally start talking or something but he spoke. He just was selective to what warranted a response. So I felt let down with that.
Sex was boring too, there wasn't really any sexual tension. It was like a quick stare down and then like a switch they both put their armor back on.
Overall nothing stood out to me. I wasn't feeling it and didn't even care for the side characters. I don't think the book was horrible or anything I just didn't like it for me. I've read better and I'm sure I'll read worse.
Kat Cantrell takes us back to the Bahamian resort of Duchess Island for her second offering in the ASSIGNMENT: Carribean Nights series, treating us to Evan and Rachel's story; a couple who bring depth and feeling to what is a shorter read.
"...an ex-SEAL with more shrapnel wounds in his soul than on his body."
Evan is a hero to fall in love with. What he's experienced and the scars he's been left with, inside and out, along with a lack of faith in himself creates emotion that at times hurts your heart. His coping mechanism is to be quiet and reclusive, but he's knocked for six when Rachel stirs up feelings that he doesn't quite know what to do with. She can read him like no other, she's smart, strong and understanding, yet is hiding her own pain and together they slowly start to unravel one another and take each other on a journey of discovery.
The pacing of this story was fitting of their situation and they have a chemistry that burns bright from the start, with Rachel's fun, flirty nature complimenting Evan's silence, and their feelings gradually grow and gather pace page by page.
"You have a unique way of making me… comfortable. I appreciate that."
With the rest of the Aqueous Adventures guys bringing the lighter moments and the banter, Revealing Her SEAL really did tick all the boxes and I can't wait to see what Kat has in store for Charlie in Commanding Her SEAL.
Copy received courtesy of the author for an honest and unbiased opinion.
This book touched a chord in me during a very difficult time in my life. It carries a rollercoaster of emotions that are soothed by love. Loved, loved, LOVED this book!!!!!
** I received a copy from the Author in return for an honest review… **
The war in Iraq stole Evan Silva’s voice. He's perfectly content to let the other guys do all the talking necessary to run the adventure-excursion company Aqueous Adventures the six of them co-own.
Rachel Blume is a completely different story. The sexy lawyer refuses to be put off by Evan’s strong, silent routine. Soon she's introducing him a whole new level of non-verbal communication that Evan can’t resist. Slowly, she strips away his barriers, only to reveal secrets that Evan never intended to share with anyone. Especially not with the woman he’s afraid he’s falling hard for…
The six Seals hire Rachel to fight their boss Jared Anderson from developing the island Ilhota Rosa. Rachel was the answer. She had to be. She would fix the Jared Anderson problem. One way or another, even if Evan had to guarantee Rachel’s success with a string of orgasms. Wait no!! He can't do that. He can't use her that way no matter how much he wants and needs her. Sex should mean something.
If Jared Anderson had his way, Aqueous Adventures would lose access to the coral reef off the coast of the island where they took snorkeling excursions. Worse, if Jared Anderson had his way, the island itself would be inaccessible. It represented a big chunk of their income.
Ilhota Rosa came into view a few minutes later as he rounded the west end of Duchess Island. The smaller island rose out of the crystal-blue water, its pink sand beach a stark contrast to its surroundings. The colors bled into his soul like a balm. Ilhota Rosa got as much credit for keeping him sober as Charlie did.
To get away from the roommate from hell. Rachel went to ask or beg Evan to let her be his new roommate. Evan flat out said "No." She she made him an offer that she will cook dinner for him everyday. But just him, not any of his dates. Then she upped the anti "I won’t make you talk to me.” Done deal.
Little did Evan know Rachel didn't need to make him talk. She had studied him enough that she could almost read his mind. I love their one sided conversations. Evan didn't know what he had gotten himself into until it was too late.
Rachel had gotten under his skin and in his heart. And had no intention of ever moving from either one. Rachel made Evan want to talk and she loved the sound of his voice. His laugh and him.
Their way to finding happily ever after is definitely not an easy road. But watching Rachel help Evan find peace within himself, conquer his demons. Find his voice and realize that she is the love of his life. And she isn't going to give up on him, no matter what. It's worth every minute that is spent reading this book. I fell in love with them. Hopefully you will too.
Assignment: Caribbean Nights series is hot. I can't wait for the next book starring Brayden and Arielle. Bound By a SEAL, by Zoe York.
Kat Cantrell returns with her second offering to the ASSIGNMENT: Caribbean Nights, series. Book four overall, we return to the Duchess Island Resort and the ex-SEALs now running Aqueous Adventures. This is Evan and Rachel’s story, both of which you are introduced to in Kat's first book Claiming Her SEAL.
I think one of the main things that stands out about this story, and the reason that I rated it so highly, is that there is so much more to Evan and Rachel than initially meets the eye, and although not the longest book, Kat took the time to build their relationship, on the mutual discovery of each others pasts, rather than just jump into the bedroom with them.
If you didn’t talk, people lost interest and moved on. Except this one.
Evan not being much of a talker at the beginning of the story, is also not something the author rushes through, and the building of their relationship is almost an aftereffect of the emotions they bring out in each other as they gradually realize that they have more in common with each other than they initially assumed.
"You say more with your face than most people can in a hundred words."
Silence is Evan’s shield, Sass is Rachel's.
"You have a unique way of making me… comfortable. I appreciate that."
This was a quick, and pretty emotive read. As a couple you pull for them from the get-go, but Evan… Gah! there was just something about his complete self-belief that he wasn’t worthy that gave this reader more than a little soft spot for him. The banter between the guys is as entertaining as in the previous book, and the story, one you will devour.
"You weren’t supposed to be so forgiving."
I am so pleased that Kat is adding more books to this series, especially as she is giving us Charlie’s story next; Commanding Her SEAL is due for release in July, and I am really excited to read it.
ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.
Evan Silva returned home from Iraq so damaged physically and mentally that he seldom speaks. Now he's found refuge in the Caribbean with his former SEAL team. His buddies are patient, understanding and supportive as he doing his job along side them as they build Aqueous Adventures Excursion Company. This is where he hopes to get back what Iraq stole from him, but he fights daily the urge to sink into a PTSD induced episode and as a recovering alcoholic he also battles that constant urge to escape the demos in his head.
Rachel Blume came to the Caribbean with her friend Emma on vacation but when Emma met and fell in love with Dex Riley Rachel decided to stay as well. Now she is putting her degree as a lawyer to good use helping the men of Aqueous Adventures fight the man who is trying to put them out of business. Rachel has a past she left behind but can't forget. She is great at flirting and making light of everything. Life is for having fun and then moving on. Until a quiet hunk of a man keeps pulling at something inside her that won't let go.
Chatty Emma about drives Evan crazy trying to fill every silent moment. He's a puzzle she wants to solve and he refuses to believe he is worth it. With both Rachel and Evan having issues and secrets in their past that eat away at them will the two be able to move forward and accept love into their lives again?
I absolutely loved this new addition. And keep the tissues handy, this book will seriously pull at your heart strings.
This is the 3rd book in the Assignment: Caribbean Nights series and another of my favorites! I love how each book is a stand alone but characters carry through each book as we watch each of the retired Navy Seal teammates find their HEA. I especially love that ALL the characters keep reappearing in each book so you get to keep seeing their lives expand on the pages of each new addition to the series.
I LOVE SEAL romance!! I absolutely loved Kat Cantrell latest release, Revealing Her SEAL, Book 4 in the Assignment: Caribbean Nights series written by 3 SERIOUSLY talented ladies, Kat Cantrell, Anne Marsh, and Zoe York. Each book that I have read in this series has been PHENONEMAL, and Revealing Her Seal is definitely no exception. I am not going to give my rehash of the blurb you have already read, or you would not be reading the reviews. I will say that if you like romance about totally HOT, RIPPED gentlemen, with the ability to be not so gentlemanly. Do you have a fan? You may need it while reading this book. I will say, I loved Rachel’s determination not to let Evan push her away. When Evan finally opens his eyes and….. Nope, sorry no spoilers. I was gifted with a copy of Ms. Cantrell’s book Claiming Her Seal, the first book in this series and loved it so much, I bought this one before it was released. This remark is for Kat, Anne, and Zoe. Thank you most graciously for writing about these heroes. Their dedication to country is never appreciated enough. They put their lives on the line for this country. Prayers and hugs to these HEROES and their families where ever you are. Thank you for reading my review. Now, YOU, yes you, go exercise that index finger, and One-Click this book. You will NOT be disappointed. Again, Zoe York, thank you for leading me to this phenomenal series, and your fellow authors Kat Cantrell and Anne Marsh.
In Book 4 of the ASSIGNMENT: Caribbean Nights series, Kat Cantrell is back to weave an intoxicating story about a wounded soldier who doesn't feel like he deserves anything more than to just exist anymore.
Evan Silva is a strong, silent former SEAL who came back from war as a changed man. In his mind, he dug himself a hole to hide away from the world as he watches life pass him by. He is there for his SEAL brothers, and they accept him just the way he is.
Sexy lawyer, Rachel Blume came to the Bahamas on vacation with her best friend, but ended up deciding to stay. She's working with the guys to try to save the island they run their adventure excursions to from being taken over by a big mogul around the area. She has her eyes set on Evan and refuses to accept his silence as a road block! Will she finally be what he needs to break down the barriers he erected around his heart and soul?
Kat Cantrell does it again! She has made such a sexy read but at the same time, the story line truly tugs at your heartstrings. I absolutely loved these characters and I loved how the story evolved. Evan's story was so heartbreaking but it what made me pull for him even more than I already was feeling when I first started reading. It was a very complex character building but it was done with amazing class and there were no awkward transitions. I gave this story a high five because Kat Cantrell has delivered every single time I have read one of her books. I am prior Army and I love the fact that Kat does her homework and she represents the military with pride. Thank you Kat for such an amazing read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
There's nothing I love more than a series about men, whether they're brothers or friends, finding their future wives. The Assignment: Caribbean Nights books definitely fulfill that need. Book two picks up where 1 left off, Dex & Emma get married and Rachel starts to woo Evan. Their love story is sweet and actually plays out longer than Dex & Emma's did in reference to time. I think the author has done a good job developing the characters so that you want to read their stories. The first book is free on kindle but if it grabs you like it grabbed me, you'll be spending $20 to complete the series so you don't have to wait for the next one.
Evan is a man that both breaks and melts my heart. He was so full of emotion and love, but unable to trust them and share them with anyone. Watching him and Rachel find that sharing the love they had for one another and not to let the fear of it keep them from having the HEA they each deserve.
Great story! If you've been following the Caribbean nights series this is one story you've been waiting for. Evan has been introduced early in the series and is Dex's best friend and Rachel is Emma's best friend. The two get together have a lot of tension! Enjoy!
****2. Revealing Her SEAL (ASSIGNMENT: Caribbean Nights Book 2) 4 stars I purchased a copy of the steamy post military novel Revealing Her SEAL (ASSIGNMENT: Caribbean Nights Book 2): Evan and Rachel by Kat Cantrell and this review was given freely. An instant attraction battle of seemingly opposites and a story of loss, self depreciation, regret and finding love where the two main characters are from broken families including a loss of a child and both fear to trust someone again but each longs for the physical closeness of a soulmate. Introverted recovering alcoholic and former Navy SEAL Evan Silva tries to resist his roommate Dex' s new bride Emma's persistent best friend, former Boston divorce lawyer Rachel Blume while Aqueous Adventure continues to fight billionaire Jared Anderson's attempts to purchase Ilhota Rosa island.
I really liked the characters and storylines in this book. Rachel and Evan move in together after Dec and Emma move into a new place leaving Evan without a roommate. Rachel wanted out of her place because she didn't get along with roommate. Plus she really likes Evan and hopes something will happen with them living together. While she tries to block Reefco from blocking them from the island they do snorkeling tours close to.
The ride through this relationship was a tragic rollercoaster ride. Evan, obviously suffering the effects of PTSD from more than one event and then pairing up with Rachel who was also struggling with several life adjusting events. I enjoyed the book but did feel that certain aspects of it were replayed too many times. Regardless, it was a good read.
Finished at 9:55 AM Thursday, August 8, 2024 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥 🌶️🌶️ not very kinky but i think more sexy time than the last book I’m excited to read the next book in the series by Zoe York this time. I loved how much Evan and Rachel understood each other and even when they didn’t, they figured it out & talked about it.
Assignment: Caribbean nights book 2. A very cute heartfelt read. Dramatic and angsty. Evan and Rachel both have extreme baggage. But to find love they have to find themselves first. A very cute story that touch on today's issues without being preachy.
I enjoyed the well developed characters. A lady and a man both thinking that a relationship was not something that was in their future. Afraid of their feelings and what they would lead to it they let them out.
I love the fact they are fun fast to read, and sweet too! Looking forward to book 3 now. Should be fun to find out why Charlie has such a issue with the dolphin expert.
Evan doesn't talk much but in the looks department he's hot. With lots of secrets and an addiction to alcohol he doesn't feel worthy of love. Highly recommend reading.
I enjoyed reading this story. So many scenes were described in a way that I could picture being there. Very complex group of men in this series and intriguing how Kat works us through their issues with them.
