Within a Captain's Treasure is the 2nd book in the 'Captains of the Scarlet Night' series by Lisa A Olech. Although it's part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

This is the story of Alice Tupper. She's on the run after killing a man in order to save her Mistress. She boards a ship taking her away from England, taking her to America where she will be a Governess to two young children.

Unfortunately while at sea the ship she is on is taken over by savage pirates. Pirates that Within a Captain's Treasure is the 2nd book in the 'Captains of the Scarlet Night' series by Lisa A Olech. Although it's part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

This is the story of Alice Tupper. She's on the run after killing a man in order to save her Mistress. She boards a ship taking her away from England, taking her to America where she will be a Governess to two young children.

Unfortunately while at sea the ship she is on is taken over by savage pirates. Pirates that take her as part of their prize. More than one of them, but especially the Captain plan on raping her, and if she lives through that, who knows what else they will do. She fights the good fight, and when yet another pirate ship comes into the equation, between the new men and herself, she manages to get away from the filthy pirates who first took her, and finds herself on the new pirate ship, The Scarlet Night. This ship and it's captain couldn't be more different that the first one, this one is clean, it's men, although rough, are fully under the control of their captain. Unlike the first dirty, stinking, rapist of a captain, this one is handsome, clean, and has no intentions of raping her or hurting her at all.

Gavin Quinn is that captain, and although he is unhappy with having a woman onboard ship because some of his crew think she will curse their voyage, he couldn't leave her behind. There is no attraction on his part, at least not to begin with. There is no attraction on Alice's part either, she's too busy being furious about what's been happening to her. She is fortunate in as much as the Captain is going to carry on sailing her to Virginia. She is determined to win over the crew, if not it's captain because it's going to be a long journey, one in which she doesn't want to be forever watching her back worrying about being raped, or thrown overboard. Fortunately her reputation precedes her, the mistress she saved was the wife of a well known Privateer, one much beloved by the captain and it's crew. When they find that out, much of the crew end up loving her. There are still the few who are angry she is on board because of the superstition, but Gavin keeps them in their place and after a vote of the majority, Alice is allowed and welcomed to stay onboard.

What follows is a thrilling at sea adventure where Alice adjusts to life as a pirate. There are battles at sea, battles amongst her and the men who don't want her on board, and the biggest battle is the battle that both Gavin and Alice end up fighting, the battle of attraction for each other. Alice doesn't want to lose her heart to a man who doesn't seem to like her very much, let alone love her. Gavin doesn't want to give in to his attraction because his life is no life for a woman to be a part of. It's a life he won't give up, can't give up, so over the years he has hardened his heart to love. Will Alice be able to break down his barriers, can she convince him that she would love to stay at sea with him? Or does she end up taking on the Governess job after all?

I loved this book so much, it was so exciting, not only the romance story that unfolds, but the excitement of the battles at sea, the life of a pirate was shared so well that you could picture yourself on board. I haven't had the pleasure of reading the other books in the series, but I am definitely going to!! I recommend this book 100%, and wish I could give it 500 stars, not just 5. YES I loved it that much. It's definitely a book that I will read again and again.

This author depicts high seas piracy as brutal and unadulterated without detracting from the romance of her work, giving her audience a quality read. Alice is on her way to Virginia from England to start a new life. As she crosses the ocean the ship she is on is overtaken by pirates. Many are killed but any women are taken to the pirates vessel to face an uncertain future.
