I liked the other stories in this series and honestly was most excited for Nick's story.

I really liked Becca. She's so sweet and so good. And while she smarts off to Nick, when it comes to him, every decision she makes sort of revolves around him. As for Nick, he's swimming in grief and doesn't even realize it. He and Becca are just so right and perfect together that of course he has to continuously push her away and act like an ass.

A while back readers will remember that I read and reviewed Wild Hearts which was Book #2 in the Hamilton Stables series and we met the Hamilton Brothers - Tripp, Alex and Nick. Silent Hearts was a heartwarming friends to lovers read, I really enjoyed it.

From the first page I knew this was going to be a good read.
I loved watching the highly strung up Nick slowly come undone and open up his heart to Becca and the possibility of something more.

Silent Hearts is the third book in the Hamilton Stables series by Melissa West and it is one of my favorite kinds of stories – friends to lovers. While part of a series, it isn’t completely necessary to read books one and two but I highly recommend you do. Not just because you will then know the characters mentioned, but also because the Hamilton brothers are great characters.

This book’s main characters are Nick and Becca. Nick and Becca have been friends forever and where Nick hasn’t always see Silent Hearts is the third book in the Hamilton Stables series by Melissa West and it is one of my favorite kinds of stories – friends to lovers. While part of a series, it isn’t completely necessary to read books one and two but I highly recommend you do. Not just because you will then know the characters mentioned, but also because the Hamilton brothers are great characters.

This book’s main characters are Nick and Becca. Nick and Becca have been friends forever and where Nick hasn’t always seen Becca as the woman for him, Becca has definitely viewed him as the man for her. There was a period where Nick was engaged to someone else and I mention this because that relationship, as well as the loss of his parents, have caused Nick to close himself off from relationships a little bit.

I’m on the fence with my feelings about Nick. As the son who has always been focused on taking over the business, Nick does just that when their father dies and this only creates more heartburn for him. He is a solid character but while his area of the business isn’t doing so great, his brothers are becoming more successful and it is clear that he holds that against him. Now – I also don’t blame him for being angry. They went behind his back with some things and that definitely wasn’t cool. Nick’s default is to find Becca when he needs to not think about all the things that are off for him and she is always there for him.

I really liked Becca. She has grown up in Triple Run and has always been seen as Nick’s friend and being a small town, everyone has an opinion about what they are to each other. Of course, almost everyone but Nick can really see what Becca feels for Nick no matter what she says.

I enjoyed Becca and Nick together. With their friendship, she isn’t afraid to call him out on his crap and stand up for herself but still support him the way he needs her to. One of the things West does well (in my opinion) is write the romance and this book was no exception. The build of the more than friends relationship piece was great and as always, I look forward to more from her in this genre.

If you are looking for a quick romance, definitely check this book (and the rest of the series) out. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Melissa West writes wonderful stories and everyone should read them.

Probably because my husband and I were the best of friends before we fell in love (I highly recommend this, nothing better than falling in love with your best friend). Silent Hearts, by Melissa West, fits the bill for this particular trope, is an easy read, and well-written, but I was hard-pressed to get behind one of the main characters or the romance.

Becca Stark and Nick Hamilton have been best friends for most of their lives, but for Becca it’s always been more. The wealthy Nick has been the man of her dreams for as long as she can remember and despite the fact that he doesn’t seem to feel the same way, she can’t get past her love for him. Nick has lost his parents and his fiancée and fears loving anyone ever again. With his brothers pressuring him to sell their family’s company, Becca is the only person in his life that makes him happy, causing him to realize she may be more than just his best friend.

I liked Becca. She’s loyal, smart, and funny. She’s sacrificed her dreams for family and, at 33, she’s a waitress in the small town of Triple Run rather than the nurse she dreamed of being. Even worse, she feels that she’ll never be good enough for town prince Nick, whose family is royalty, their horse farm and business a town mainstay. Becca really finds herself in Silent Hearts, realizing that being in her 30s doesn’t mean her life is over or that she can’t fulfill her dreams. She sees that she doesn’t have to be defined by what the towns people think of her or by her relationship with Nick. These characteristics make a great heroine and Melissa West wrote her well.

Nick, however, is barely tolerable. He starts off well, acknowledging to himself early on that he feels more than friendship for Becca. Even though he is struggling with his side of the family business, which is failing, and is resentful of his brothers success in business and in life, he decides to confess his feelings for Becca, convincing her that they should give in to their feelings. This is where things go downhill for me because he enters into his romantic relationship with Becca unsure of where he wants it to go. He doesn’t want to be hurt again, to lose someone he loves, and he tells himself that he can have a casual relationship with his best friend. This made me so angry and it only got worse as Nick got more wishy-washy as the story went on. He ends up hurting Becca in ways I’d never forgive, and I found myself rooting for an un-happily ever after.

I suspect that part of the problem with the story stemmed from it being third in a trilogy. I kept thinking that there had to be some relationship building between Nick and Becca in the first two books that would make Nick seem more like a book hero and less like a petulant child. Reviews from people who’ve read the whole series have been glowing, which would seem to support this theory. And, like I said, West is a good writer. The pace of the book flowed smoothly, and the early interactions between Becca and Nick were sweet and totally reflective of two people in a lifelong friendship.

I really want to go back and read the first two books because I want to see how Trip and Alex came to be so happy and in love.

I think it would have also helped to see the dynamic between the brothers in the first two books. I'm curious if it was as strained as it was in Silent Hearts, or if they were chummy chums. Not that we didn't get to see the brothers happy and together in Silent Hearts, it just took a bit of time for us to get there because Nick had his head up his butt for a good portion of the book. I mean, I get it. He lost his grandfather, his parents, and his fiancé. That would be rough on anyone. But I couldn't help but be annoyed by Nick's waffling. One moment, it would appear that he was ready to reconcile with his brothers, but the next moment, something small would set him off and he'd go back to being a close-minded jerk to his brothers. He also played with Becca's emotions too much, which caused me to "like" the book as opposed to "loving" it.

Becca and Nick have been best friends for more than twenty years, and they have both loved each other for as long as they can remember--only, neither of them ever admitted their feelings to the other one. They let the fear of rejection and the fear of ruining their friendship stop them from truly being happy. Admittedly, Becca and Nick are really cute together. The fact that they have known each other since they were eight-years-old or so was totally endearing. They understand each other down to the core. Put simply, they're perfect together. Which is why Nick's assery was generally disappointing at times. Becca is just so sweet, smart, and sassy. Luckily, Nick learns to let go of the grief and with a little prodding, pulls off the grandest of grand gestures.

I hope the Littleton brothers will get their own stories! They were just so charming, and Zac and his little girl made my not-really-ready-to-have-a-baby ovaries squee. Overall, Silent Hearts was a pleasant enough read, but I probably would not re-read it. However, I'm definitely going back to read Trip and Alex's (his story excites me most) stories!

My first of Melissa West's Books, Silent Hearts is the story of Nick and Becca. It is the third book in the Hamilton Stables, a standalone.

I've always loved the friends - lovers concept and even understand the hesitation in embracing love when their best friend is involved ... I know right? But it is one of my favorite concepts a reason I picked this book.

Melissa West has a nice writing style, writes the relationship dynamics and transformation of their relationship quite well.

This is a short romance coming in at 174 pages. It is very light on the sex and high on the story feature. Becca and Nick are best friends who both want to take it to another level. The dialogue flows and the characters are relatable. It is easy to fall in love with Becca as she fights her insecurities but actually does something about them by deciding to go back to school to become a nurse. Melissa West has once again blown me away. She has left me speechless, with a smile on my face and a heart filled with love. Silent Hearts was just the read I needed and more. Ever since I finished Wild Hearts, I have been dying to get my hands “For me, there’s only ever been you.”

Melissa West has once again blown me away. She has left me speechless, with a smile on my face and a heart filled with love. Silent Hearts was just the read I needed and more. Ever since I finished Wild Hearts, I have been dying to get my hands on this book and learn more about the broody Hamilton brother, Nick. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.

Now, I have to tell you, I have been in the worst book funk. I mean the worst. So, when I picked up this book, I was hoping, I was praying that this book would pull me out of the funk I was in and boy did it ever. This book totally exceeded my expectations.

Silent Hearts is told from dual points of view and pulls you in from the very first page. I was unable to put Silent Hearts down. I immediately got lost and consumed with Nick and Becca’s story. Nick is one of those characters that you can’t help but love. He’s complicated, broody, has alpha tendencies, but is afraid to fall in love. So many moments I either wanted to slap him or shake him. I wanted to yell at him to wake up and see Becca before he would lose her forever. And Becca….This girl…She was so sweet, and caring. The kind of girl you could always count on. She has loved Nick for as long as she remembered, but never thought she would stand a chance with a guy like Nick.

Nick and Becca together were a force to be reckoned with. Their connection was so real, so undeniable. I loved their push and pull. I was captivated by the will they, won’t they moments. They made me laugh-soooo many times. They frustrated me. They brought tears to my eyes. And most of all, they made me fall in love.

One of the best things for me, was how real the characters were. I can not say that enough. Melissa West made these characters feel so real to me. Like they were a part of me. She wrote them in a way that made them so easy to connect with and so easy to understand. I loved that Nick and Becca weren’t perfect. Nick had a lot of issues that he had to move past and he made a lot of mistakes along the way. You knew that he was just going to mess up. But, I gotta tell you, watching his character grow, experiencing the journey to his HEA, was just amazing. I loved every swoon-worthy, heart-breaking, angsty moment.

I honestly can not say enough about this book. Silent Hearts was well written. It was a beautiful friends to lovers/second chance romance. It had just the right balance of angst, romance, and drama. I just loved it. I was consumed from beginning to end. I was taken on such an incredible, emotional journey and I just loved it! I can not wait to see what journey Melissa West will take me on next.

To find out he was engaged to another woman was a lot to take in and that is when she knew at that moment. She knew she would never be more than that tomboy best friend to him and nothing more.
She had left Kentucky nursing program to care for her ill grandmother when no one else in her family would. It broke her heart when she passed Nick was there for her when she passed just like she was there for him when his mama passes and when Britt ended up passing. But the one that just did him in was when his dad passed. He couldn’t go home for a long time so he stayed with her for at least a month if not more. But he changed after all that. He crawled into himself and started spending more and more time with her. He wasn’t with her with her but the town was talking, his family was talking and her customers at the diner were too. Yeah she was a diner waitress and even though the people liked her they didn’t think she was good enough to be with royalty like Nick. So when they heard he was sweet on someone from the family and from the ranch staff they just knew it couldn’t be her. The town was split half and half for her and half against.
When Becca finally caught the gossip she heard he was dating a doctor. So once again she wasn’t good enough and also not a friend enough for him to tell her he was dating.
This book is like the game of telephone. You tell the first person and they tell someone and they tell someone and see where your message ends up and how it comes out. It is very cute and the characters are very down to earth. It is about two hearts that fell in love before ever telling their owners. By the time they caught on they had made one royal mess of things. It wasn’t until another guy starts to really see Becca before Nick sees Becca. Interesting. I give this 5 stars. I was looking forward to Nick's story. This guy carries way too much on his shoulders, and he's made himself emotionally secluded from everyone. Becca is his best friend. I thought this one was an awesome read! It's a great friends to lovers story between Nick and Becca. Nick is still reeling from the loss of his father. While his brothers seem to have hit their stride and are achieving great things in areas of the family ranch business, Nick's struggling and can't seem to get his footing.
