New to me author...
I enjoyed this book so much. Romance-Suspense, in my opinion, is the best EVER! As soon as I started reading this story I was sucked into a world packed full of action, mystery, and smoking hot sex.
A new police chief shares a past with one of his detectives and a string of crimes bring the two back into each others arms. But will it last?....
Looking forward to the next in the series.

A quickly paced, fast moving book, the emotionally charged story-line starts with a beaten woman and climaxes with another incident with the perpetrator, with lots of action in between. Readers should be warned that although the references that involve abuse and beating are not specific or greatly detailed, the plot essentially rests on one woman’s inability to come to terms with her own loss of faith in humanity after her own traumatic event.

The writing is smooth and tightly interweaves the action with the emotionally charged reactions of the characters, from anger to abject terror, guilt, frustration and feelings of inadequacy. This is not a ‘typical’ cop story – the characters are both well-defined and completely relatable as human beings with fears, concerns and emotions that are affected by what they see on the job. As the second in this In The Arms of The Law series, this book stands alone without great difficulty, as the author has provided background throughout the story, and this helps to fill in the gaps.

The main characters, Alicia and Cole, are engaged in a dance that is rife with insecurities, guilt, longing and the effects of Alicia’s past; although they do manage to overcome these difficulties when they let their all too apparent sexual chemistry take the lead. And there is sex: hot and steamy – this is not a book that is geared to the under 18 crowd. The scenes are graphically written, with an emotional undertone that balances the very steamy action. My only real complaint with the storyline is the all-too tired line used by the hero when the discussion of condoms makes an appearance early in the story. Although, I will give the author a nod for making it a discussion at all: the realistic portrayal of the storyline and characters requires that real world sexual concerns enter the picture; in this day and age that does mean protection for both parties.

Although this was a book that brought forward a series of issues that are all too common in the world we live in, the author has done a wonderful job of displaying an understanding of the emotional impact and damage that happens to all involved: not just victims. I certainly would not hesitate to read other books by this author.

I received an eBook copy from author for review for Full Moon Bites tours. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Review as appears on my blog Amy's Book World:

Awakenings is the second book in this series by this author. In this one we follow Cole and Alicia on their journey to love. Alicia has some demons from the past that still haunt her. First the death of her mother as a young girl and then her kidnapping a year prior. All this adds to her reasoning that she us not meant to be happy. Even though a few years ago she and Cole shared one hot night together. Cole takes things into his own hands when she slips up on the job. Now as they spend more time together Cole hopes that he can show her that she deserves happiness too.

Cole is a character that I like. He is tough, sensitive and knows how to make a woman moan. He is the whole package. Too bad it takes Alicia some time to actually see it. He spends a great deal of the the book trying to win her heart. Towards the end she finally sees Cole as the man that she needs.

Hammell did a fantastic job on this book. I have not read the first in the series so I was a little worried, but she writes it as a standalone or part of the series. She doesn't just focus on the two main characters, there is another story. You also get to see what happen to Roger and Roy Osborne. That story comes to a climatic end.

Overall the author did awesome job on this book. I enjoy reading her books. She knows how to grab an audience's attention and pull you in. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Awakenings is a great story that has so many components to it. It is the second book in the series and although I did not read the first one it had enough information where I was very comfortable reading ti and not feeling lost.

Alicia is a detective who is trying to solve a case. She has a child who has been kidnapped and a crazy murderer on the lose. But all that takes a back seat to what is really going on in Alicia's life. She had something tragic happen to her and she is hell bent on not letting any man come close to her again. As she is working on this case she has to work with her partner who is also her boss Cole. She and Cole had one night of passion so many years ago but after being hurt she refuses to date or be with men. She has devoted her time and energy to her job.

What will Alicia do when Cole makes it known to her that he wants her? Will she leave the past and the hurts behind to embrace true love or will she tell Cole no it can't work out. This story really gripped me and had me reading well into the morning because I had to see if Alicia gave Cole a go. This is a must read story with a surprising ending!

Kacey pens "Awakenings" a fast paced action romance in a plot that flows smoothly. Be cautioned that there is references to abuse but nothing really graphic.I found her characters to be well developed and relatable to real life with their fears and concerns. A farily quick read that is recommended for those over the age of 18.

This was just as gut-wrenching as the last installment. Awakenings was action packed and the chemistry between the lead characters is HOT HOT HOT! I am loving this series!!! The author has a way of drawing you into the story and holding you captive until the very end. I couldn't put this down.

Alicia Knowles went through an ordeal that has changed her and not for the better. And to make matters worse, her new boss is someone from her past. Someone she never expected to see again.

Cole Douglass can't believe he's found the woman that has haunted his dreams, but he can't let his feelings get in the way of him doing his job. Alicia's actions while on duty must be addressed, even if it means facing her wrath.

However the case she's been working, she's unwilling to let go even if she's not supposed to. Coupled with the passion that exist between her and Cole, she doesn't know left from right. She's running on autopilot. But things hit too close to home when someone his cares about is caught in the crosshairs.

Now more determined than ever, she's solve this case and put the criminal exactly where he belongs. And once that is done, she'll have to come to terms with her feelings for Cole before he walks away for good.

This is a fast paced, action packed journey that will take you on a roller coaster ride. I loved this story and how to centers around a woman that can hold her own against even the toughest of criminals. She doesn't need a man to define her, but won't object to having him stand beside her. And the fire that flows between Cole and Alicia radiates off the pages and will leave you excited for more. I admire how Cole loves with his whole heart not just for his family, but those that he cares about as well. He's admirable and willing to stand back to let the woman he loves walk away even when it breaks his heart.

I loved this story and couldn't put it down until end. Kacey's ability to draw a reader into a story is undeniable. The journey you take with this book is one that can't be missed.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Being a detective, was everything Alicia ever wanted. She worked hard and had earned it. Then it all changed that one night. Alicia will never forget that night. It’s been burned into her memory. Every time she closes her eyes she sees the man who hurt her. Cole is her new boss and also the man she spent a very hot night with a couple of years ago. Cole never forgot Alicia. She consumed most of his thoughts. The two share another steamy night and this time their true feelings can no longer be denied.

I love Alicia and Cole!! I was rooting for them through the whole book. Alicia is a strong female and even though she isn’t the same after what happened to her, she still has some fire to her. Cole is kind, handsome, and loving. Total package! This is a great read. I laughed, yelled, and cried. I give this 4 stars

his is the second book in this series and I received a copy from the author in return for an honest review. I have to admit that the only reason it took me a little longer to read the second book was because I spent most of the day with my daughter and grandson. This was another book I had trouble putting down. This book picks up with Alicia and Cole whom we met in illusions and her struggle to move forward. I love the characters and this book moves along well. I can't wait to see where we go from here. Another must read from this Canadian author.
