Summons is the first book in the Fable Rangers series by A.L. Brown. This is a middle grade book that offers a fantasy story with pieces of stories you might think you already know. Twelve-year-old Casey doesnt think life could get any more unfair. Plans for her special basketball tournament are tossed aside by her sisters wedding plans. All she wants is an escape, but she never imagined shed be swept away to a world of Mother Goose rhymes, fairy tales, stories of Arabian Nights, and oh, by the ...more

Summons, the first book in the Fable Ranger series, is a delightful start to a series that seems to be aimed the 7-12 age range. It carries a wonderful empowering message for young girls that they can be the hero in the stories. They dont have to wait for a Prince Charming or a valiant male rescuer. Casey, the main character, is what could be lightly termed a tomboy. She loves basketball, horse-riding, and just generally being active. Theres no room in her world for dresses, or being a ...more

There is nothing more horrifying than being a bridesmaid in your big sister's wedding. But then twelve-year-old Casey has to miss her basketball tournament as well! Yet when Casey is sucked into a world of fairy tales and children's rhymes, she wants nothing more than to return home to her family. An evil villain has messed up the stories and kidnapped all but one of the fair godmothers. The Fable Ranger was called on to rescue them, but they got Casey instead. Can she be the hero this world ...more

I have never before read a childrens tale that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Casey thought her life was falling apart by missing the basketball tournament and had wished herself into an alternate dimension by mistake. Summons utilizes all of the fairy tales which we have grown up with, but with subtle changes which bring horrific consequences for the land of Lorealia. The story shows a girl who believes she is good at just one thing, who hates wearing dresses and being ...more

This was a cute story geared toward kids age 8 to 12. It was written in a way that a young person would easily relate to the main character Casey. The story was mix of different fairy tales set in a world that existed when the fairy tales were not being read and brought to life. The mix of magic and mechanical was very interesting and made for an interesting addition to the storyline keeping it unique and fascinating. There were several twists and turns in the plot keeping thing moving and ...more

A girl, Casey, is swept into her favorite book of fairy tales after she becomes upset with her family. She finds out she is the Fable Ranger, and needs to save the world from the evil Dovetail.

I read this to my kids... we all agree that we don't want to read the next book in the series.

The names of the characters were odd - some of the main characters were Charlie-boy and Fairy GIT. (Also, is that Fairy Get or Fairy G.I.T.?) And the fairy tales that Casey has to help save are Brier Rose and
